Company of Wolves, The (1984) Arf

An almost with a distinct visual style and coordination. The Little Red Riding Hood backstory was solid but the asides were distracting. Every once upon a time dredged up a mini scenario that killed the present momentum. I would have combined all the once upon a times into an intro. Somehow panic seeps into the mysterious imagery and causes confusion. Angela Lansbury was the perfect grandmother, the child was beguiling and the atmosphere was spooky. The wolves were a grab bag of good and bad. Some of the metamorphosis were clever. "Red" was a watered down version of the threat a violent man poses in society esp. regarding girls. The film is not afraid to explore sexuality. The reason most evil men do girls harm is sex. She blossoms while they shiver and fidget. Driving a car in the forest felt too modern for its surroundings. I watched riveted until the end but I didn't quite get it. 26-Jun-2025
