Abortions by mail are available now in the US. Here’s what you need to know.

With the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, the future of Roe v. Wade is looking increasingly grim.

But even while the landmark law remains in place, the rollback of abortion access across the US is already well underway — and women who want to safely terminate their pregnancies face an increasing number of roadblocks.

Enter Aid Access, a new online service through which women can obtain medical abortion pills, mifepristone and misoprostol, to take at home. As first reported by the Atlantic’s Olga Khazan, Rebecca Gomperts, a Dutch physician and activist, launched the service six months ago in response to overwhelming US demand.

Experts Explain Why LGBTQ People Have More Eating Disorders

While the National Eating Disorder Association reports that the LGBTQ community is disproportionately plagued by eating disorders, experts are saying that being a minority contributes to this dilemma.

Dr. Norman H. Kim, national director for program development at Reasons Eating Disorder Center, believes that queer people are drawn to unhealthy eating habits because of minority stress. Behaviors such as binging, purging, and undereating are a symptom of chronic social stress LGBTQ people experience as minorities, he told Stylecaster.

The rates at which queer people are having this reaction to being otherized are alarming.

Restaurant Ticket Calls Woman 'Crazy Bitch' for Ordering a Burger Without Cheese

Henry’s Burgers & Cream is the kind of tiny local restaurant in a tiny Alabama town whose Facebook page is usually filled with updates about the daily specials (the fried popcorn shrimp plate seems to be a favorite), with good luck messages for the Brookwood Middle School football team, and frequent reminders to pre-order your party trays for Alabama football game days. Roll Tide, and all that.

On Wednesday, the Hatter family who run Henry’s posted an atypical update, ensuring everyone that they had issued a “heartfelt apology” to an irritated customer, and promising that “by God’s grace, [they] would to continue to please as many customers as possible.” And presumably, by God’s grace, none of their employees will call a customer a crazy bitch again, even if she does order a burger without cheese.

New York City Renamed 'Jewtropolis' in Anti-Semitic Snapchat Map Attack

Map features in Snapchat and other popular mobile apps, including The Weather Channel and Citi Bike, referred to New York City as “Jewtropolis” on Thursday in what appears to have been an anti-Semitic act of digital vandalism.

Each of the affected apps uses mapping company Mapbox for their mapping features. Mapbox in turn relies partially on user-generated information, apparently opening the door to such attacks.

The Shiloh Scandal Is Even Worse Than It Seems

A federal court has given the Trump administration until Friday, Aug. 10, to figure out a plan for the 28 immigrant children still detained at the Shiloh Treatment Center in southeast Texas. Any child who is not deemed to pose “a risk of harm to self or others” must be transferred to a less restrictive facility, per Judge Dolly Gee’s July 30 ruling in a lawsuit filed earlier this year. She also addressed the lawsuit’s claims that residents at Shiloh have been given forced injections and prescribed antidepressants, mood stabilizers, and antipsychotic drugs without consent. The government must stop this practice, she determined, and make sure that psychotropic drugs are given to detainees at Shiloh only in accordance with Texas child welfare laws and regulations.

For weeks now, this misuse of psychiatric medications has been cited as a prime example of the White House’s “despicable,” “reprehensible,” “inhumane and unconscionable” border policies. “President Donald Trump’s zero tolerance policy stands to create a zombie army of children forcibly injected with medications,” said the article from the Center for Investigative Reporting that first brought the allegations to light. “The president has to be ordered not to give children psychotropic drugs, but I’m the one that’s tripping?” one Democratic candidate for Congress said a few days ago, in defending progressives’ call to defund U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Restaurant employee calls 911 on African-American family

A Georgia restaurant owner says he is investigating after an employee called 911 on an African-American family who had stopped for dinner during a vacation.

WSB-TV reports that Felicia and Othniel Dobson of North Carolina on Monday had stopped for dinner at a Subway in Newnan with their four children, ages 8 to 19, when a restaurant employee called police.

It’s Not Just Abortion, Birth Control Coverage Is Also in Jeopardy

But something that’s not getting as much attention is the fact that a more conservative court could rule against employers having to cover birth control and family planning clinics having to offer it. The potential intersection of reduced access to birth control and restricted abortion rights could set up a perfect storm of more unintended pregnancies and fewer places for women to access safe, legal abortion. Maternal death rates in the US are already too high, and the combination of some women being forced to carry an unintended pregnancy to term and likely delaying prenatal care and some women seeking abortions from unsafe providers could lead to even more women dying—particularly women of color and low-income women.

The Dangerous Fallout of Making Abortion Illegal Is Already Happening

It was September of 2015 when a Tennessee woman named Anna Yocca allegedly stepped into a bathtub filled with warm water and inserted a wire hanger into her uterus. She lost a lot of blood very quickly, and was rushed to a nearby hospital where, at 24 weeks, she delivered a 1.5-pound baby boy.

Yocca was jailed and the infant was taken into state custody and later adopted. In December 2016, Yocca was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and two other felony accounts derived from laws dating back to the 1800s: attempted criminal abortion and attempted procurement of a miscarriage. Because Yocca couldn’t afford to pay her bond, she was incarcerated throughout her case—a year and a half in total. In early January, she pleaded guilty to attempted procurement of a miscarriage and was released on time served.

That same week in Texas, a Republican lawmaker took what felt like an inevitable, almost logical, step in the state’s trajectory of abortion restrictions: He introduced legislation that would jail women who have the procedure.

Supreme Court rules for faith-based pregnancy centers, blocks California disclosure law

The Supreme Court on Tuesday blocked enforcement of a California law that requires faith-based crisis pregnancy centers to notify patients that the state offers subsidized medical care, including abortions.

By a 5-4 vote, the justices said the disclosure rule likely amounts to compelled speech that violates the 1st Amendment. The court did not strike down the California law, but sent the case back to lower courts with instructions that enforcement of key provisions be immediately blocked while the legal challenge continues.

The Next Time You Crave Chicken, Remember That Chick-fil-A Is Still Very Much Anti-Gay

In September 2012, after years of publicly opposing same-sex marriage and donating millions to anti-LGBTQ groups, Chick-fil-A — the Christian-founded fast-food chain known for their chicken sandwiches and billboards of half-literate cows encouraging folks to “EAT MOR CHIKIN” — said that it had “ceased donating to organizations that promote discrimination, specifically against LGBT civil rights.”

According to ThinkProgress, the Chick-fil-A Foundation’s most recent IRS filings from 2015 reveal hundreds of thousands in donations to anti-LGBTQ groups. They gave $1 million to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a religious organization with “a strict ‘sexual purity’ policy, prohibiting any ‘homosexual acts.'”

They also donated $200,000 to the Paul Anderson Youth Home, a Georgia-based group that runs a “Christian residential home for troubled youth.” The organization believes that the “sexual, physical and mental abuse of children” resulted in “the explosion of homosexuality in the last century.”

Tennessee store puts “no gays allowed” sign back up after Supreme Court’s wedding cake ruling

A Tennessee hardware store owner is celebrating the Supreme Court's ruling in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple by posting a "no gays allowed" sign in front of his business.

Jeff Amyx, who owns Amyx Hardware & Roofing Supplies in Grainger County, Tennessee, initially put up the sign in 2015 after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage but later removed it following public backlash.

But the "no gays allowed" sign returned this week after the recent Supreme Court's decision, WBIR reports.

Pizza Worker Arrested for Allegedly Pouring Rat Poison into Cheese Shredder

The majority of the Google reviews for Primo Pizza are positive, with customers complimenting everything from the restaurant’s style of pizza to the generous size of the slices to the waitstaff’s ability to deal with a party of 14 on a busy night. But one reviewer named Joel begrudgingly gave Primo one star as he complained about almost every aspect of his experience. “[The] manager has no clue what he is doing when it comes to food safety, so the staff is just as clueless and it shows,” he wrote. “Just go to a different pizza place.”

Fortunately for everyone who planned on eating at the Fayetteville, NC restaurant last weekend, at least one manager absolutely had a clue about food safety, and his willingness to pay attention during prep work may have legitimately saved some lives.

Here’s What Happens When A Catholic Hospital Won’t Try To Save You

The Trump administration is poised to hand religious conservatives another victory: a slew of new federal rules that would give religious health care providers wide latitude to refuse to treat patients or perform procedures if doing so would violate their religious beliefs.

Some of the most powerful hospital networks in the country have lobbied for these “conscience” rules, claiming they shouldn’t fear a legal risk for practicing medicine according to their religious beliefs. But those same hospital networks are already using religious justifications to place women in life-threatening situations with impunity, documents obtained by HuffPost show.

At a hospital owned by Ascension, the largest Catholic hospital network in the country and a staunch proponent of a rule that would give nearly any health care worker the right to refuse care, doctors refused to intervene as a woman was undergoing a life-threatening miscarriage because they believed that doing so would be the same as performing an abortion, the documents show. Instead, they carted her out to the hospital parking lot so a relative could drive her to a different emergency room, where she underwent a massive blood transfusion and emergency surgery.

Chefs and Servers Reveal the 15 Things They'd Never Order at a Restaurant

Sometimes seeing how the sausage gets made makes you want to avoid the sausage.

In a recent AskReddit thread, a user posed the question, "Chefs and waiters of Reddit, what type of dish do you always avoid when eating at another restaurant and why?" The responses from users, who claim to have worked in restaurants, were empassioned, to say the least.

Here are the 15 types of foods that restaurant industry insiders say they'd never dream of ordering.
