USPS Is Getting Rid of This Service, Effective Immediately
In early April, the Postal Service stopped delivering mail to some residents in Santa Monica, California. According to CBS News, the USPS had suspending delivery service to one neighborhood after there had allegedly been several assaults on carriers delivering mail in the area by an individual who had not been apprehended. The agency reinstated its service to the block about a week or so later, the Santa Monica Mirror reported.

Why having kids doesn’t necessarily make you happier, according to research
Parents often refer to their children as their “pride and joy.” But research tells a different story: Having kids doesn’t necessarily make people happier.
Most parents feel that their children are incredibly important sources of life satisfaction, says Jennifer Glass, professor of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin and a demographer who studies the relationship between parenthood and well-being.
“But that’s not the same thing as happiness, and it’s not the same thing as financial well-being, good physical health or good emotional health,” Glass tells CNBC Make It.
So, why does having kids not provide the happiness that we think it will?

'Stalker written all over him!'
'My mum has a new partner. They've been dating for a couple of months, and she's seemed very happy, and I was genuinely pleased for her, as I know she longs for companionship.
'However, I finally met him last week (staying with Mum for a couple of weeks as we hadn't seen her for almost a year), and I am really concerned. He's clearly love-bombing her, in my opinion.

"I would like to go into a Burger King and eat after dark,” said Ryan Mullen, a security guard at a hotel near the airport, who has seen plenty of crime. “I would like to go into a Carl's Jr., you know, a Subway, and not have to worry about being a prisoner in my own neighborhood. That's the bummer to me."

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti signs order criminalizing homelessness, with violators facing possible fines of up to $1,000
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti recently signed into law an ordinance that criminalizes homelessness in most parts of the city, a motion that has drawn just as much fierce support by some as it has opposition by others.
The law specifies certain times and locations where it will be 'unlawful for a person to sit, lie, or sleep, or to store, use, maintain, or place personal property in the public right-of-way'.

Want To Avoid Raising Entitled Kids? Don’t Do These 4 Things.
“If your brain isn’t cognitively ready to imagine someone else’s experience, it’s harder to have empathy,” said Pressman.
Yet it is important that as kids move from toddler-dom into the school-age years, parents actively teach them that they will not always get their way. Parents also should explain to children that not getting their way may feel bad, which is expected.
For example, when your child is shopping for a friend’s birthday present and they ask for a toy of their own, don’t give in, Pressman urged. Instead, maybe say something like: “We’re going into the store to buy a present for Billy. I know sometimes that can feel hard, and it’s hard to focus,” Pressman said. That’s it.
You’re giving them space to grapple with what it feels like to not get their way, and you’re showing them that you expect them to get through it. It can be a pretty powerful lesson, particularly when it’s repeated often as a natural part of growing up.

'You'd walk out if your husband hit you - you can't when it's your child'
Last summer, 10-year-old Aidan decided he was going to kill the family dog. He lured her behind the sofa with a sausage before putting his hands over her muzzle and around her neck.
"The crazy thing is that he actually loves the dog and me the most out of anyone," says Aidan's mother, Hazel. "But we are the two that he will target and sometimes he will hurt her to get a reaction out of me."
Aidan kicks and hits, and he used to bite. He tells Hazel that he hates her and wants her to die, that he's going to get a gun and shoot her. He's tried to push her down the stairs, and now that he's worked out where her blind spots are - she has a visual impairment - he throws things at her that she can't see coming. Recently it was a kettle, which fortunately hadn't just been boiled - but Aidan didn't know it was cold when he picked it up and launched it.

My Girlfriend Likes Role-Playing as My Grandma
To celebrate a milestone, my girlfriend dressed up as a 100-year-old lady; apparently this is fairly common. However, she didn’t stop there. She has now created an elderly alter-ego and expects to be treated as a grandmother while in this mode. She said it’s like crossdressing and even suggested that I dress up so that I can be her “granddaughter.” She has previously made me up, but it was only a costume; I never felt like a different person. She said that it would be fun to go out as grandmother and granddaughter, with me holding her arm or pushing her in a wheelchair. I feel like that might be disrespectful to actual old or disabled people. But I always want to make my girlfriend happy. Should I participate in this?

Orange County COVID-19 ICU Capacity Hits Zero, Health Officials Suspend Ambulance Diversion
Orange County continued its streak of daily records for COVID-19 hospitalizations on Thursday with 1,519 patients, including 343 in ICU beds.
The county’s adjusted ICU bed capacity remains at zero.
The state created the adjusted metric to reflect the difference in beds available for COVID-19 patients and non-coronavirus patients. The county’s unadjusted ICU bed capacity is also dropping, and it currently stands at 9.5%.
The 11-county Southern California region’s adjusted percentage of available ICU beds dropped from 0.5% to zero as well.
Another 13 people died from virus-related complications, the county reported Thursday. The death toll is now at 1,731.

The idea of having a baby fills me with an absolute, vice-like dread... because I'm a feminist
Throughout my life, ever since my earliest memory, I have never even spared a single, solitary thought on the idea that I was in any way unequal to a man. It never crossed my mind that I would not have my own career, be in any way financially dependent on a wallet with testicles. It never occurred to me that a woman could not run the country (I was born under Thatcher), that a woman could not be a boss (my mum was one) that a woman could not shoot, ride and fight like a man (yes, I may have watched a lot of Calamity Jane and Buffy growing up).
Gender inequality? It was a systemic issue to be toppled, sure, but not a lived reality for me.
And yet now, at 31, I find myself wrestling with a belated and thoroughly unpleasant notion.
We are not equal.
Why? Because I’m in that decade, the one where marriage and babies becomes, not a ‘one day’ concern, but an approaching reality. And yet- should I be lucky enough to have a baby- the idea of having one fills me with an absolute, vicelike dread. Because it may take two to bonk that baby into existence, but after the fun part’s over; it’s all on me.
