Chick-fil-A Says Its Anti-LGBTQ+ Donations Are a “Higher Calling”
We all feel a higher calling sometimes. Maybe it’s to be a teacher. Maybe it’s to leave your six-figure job and be a full-time drag queen. Or maybe, if you’re the CEO of Chick-fil-A, it’s a calling to donate to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations.
In an interview with Business Insider, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and executive director of the Chick-fil-A Foundation Rodney Bullard said that the company felt a “higher calling” to donate its money to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations.
'Hundreds of bugs' in child's backpack leads to Florida mom's arrest
A Florida woman was arrested last week after her children's poor hygiene at school prompted a sheriff's office inquiry revealing living conditions unfit for children.
Jessica Stevenson, 33, of Milton, was arrested Friday and charged with child neglect without causing great bodily harm. Her bond was set at $12,500.
According to her arrest report, a staffer at Bagdad Elementary School reported on three siblings who attended the school to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The employee said she’d noticed a second-grade student wearing the same clothing for an entire week in April and that the child’s body odor was hard to ignore, the report stated
The employee questioned the second-grader as to when their last bath had been, the report stated. The student replied they did not know.

Instagram Influencer Mom Leaves Kids and Husband in Coach While She Flies First Class
This Instagram influencer mom is not afraid to leave her family in the back of the plane while she flies first class.
Naomi Isted, a fashion blogger and TV presenter from Essex, U.K., who has 94,400 followers on Instagram, told INSIDER that she travels every six weeks on average for work, and if she’s booked in an economy seat, she’ll always “try to upgrade if there’s scope to do so.”
However, if her children are traveling with her, she will upgrade alone because she believes that, at ages 3 and 9 years old, they’re too young too appreciate the amenities of first class.
“I never personally experienced business or first until I was presenting a wine TV show in my 20s,” Isted, 40, told INSIDER, adding that a person shouldn’t fly first class until they are old enough to “appreciate and understand the value of money and hard work.”
Chick-fil-A Donated $1.8 Million to Anti-LGBTQ Groups in 2017
In the fall of 2012, it was announced that Chick-fil-A would stop donating to discriminatory, anti-LGBTQ organizations. This happened a few months after the company announced it would “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage,” following uproar over CEO Dan Cathy’s comments about same-sex marriage. In the years since, the company has done more to expand its reach out of its traditional southeastern stronghold and become the third-fastest-growing chain in this country. But at least as of 2017, Chick-fil-A was still donating to some of these organizations.
Woman jailed for 11 years for performing FGM on her 3-year-old daughter
A judge has sentenced a 37-year-old Ugandan woman to 11 years in jail for performing female genital mutilation (FGM) on her three-year-old daughter, the UK's Press Association (PA) news agency reported.
The defendant was found guilty of the "barbaric" practice last month, becoming the first person to be convicted of the offense in the UK.
In sentencing at London's Old Bailey criminal court Friday, Judge Mrs Justice Whipple handed down an 11-year jail term and a further two years for possession of indecent images and extreme pornography.
"FGM has long been against the law and let's be clear FGM is a form of child abuse," PA reported the judge as saying.
Salvation Army slaps ‘gag order’ on employees so they don’t talk about LGBTQ issues
“If you run into a Salvation Army bell ringer this Christmas season, don’t strike up a conversation about President Trump or gay marriage,” warns FOX News host Todd Starnes is telling his audience.
Starnes says employees “have been told to stop posting their opinions about gay marriage, abortion or anything political on social media because it might reflect poorly on the organization.”
The far right pundit says he has leaked copies of internal memos from the home office to staffers instructing them to keep mum about controversial topics.
The religious charity has come under fire in the United States over the past decade for their atrocious record on LGBT rights. To attempt to stem the ongoing outrage over the group’s previous stances on LGBT issues, they started a public relations campaign to deny that they are anti-LGBT while never acknowledging their history.
TRUMP VOTER TURNS ON PRESIDENT AS HE VISITS CALIFORNIA AFTER BLAMING STATE FOR WILDFIRES: "HE CAN KISS MY RED ASS"
A man who voted for Donald Trump and was recently impacted by wildfires in California blasted the president’s response to the deadly crisis.
“My kids lost everything. I voted for him – and now? He can kiss my red ass,” Kirk Ellsworth from Northern California told The Guardian. “What he said was ridiculous. It hurts my heart. A lot of us voted for him and he [talks] down to us?”
As news of casualties and the devastation caused by a recent spate of forest fires broke last weekend, the president blamed California for the disaster while also threatening to cut federal payments to a state which had overwhelmingly rejected Trump and his party at the polls earlier this month.

5 male ad execs are considering a discrimination claim after their gay female boss said she would 'obliterate' her company's reputation as a haven for straight, white men
Five straight, white men have retained a lawyer to look at whether they can bring a discrimination claim against ad agency JWT, after a senior executive said in a meeting she wanted to "obliterate" JWT's reputation for being populated by white, British, privileged, straight men, The Times reports.
The men went to their HR department after hearing the remarks and lost their jobs days later, according to Campaign magazine and The Times.
Scathing Report Accuses the Pentagon of Developing an Agricultural Bioweapon
A new technology in which insects are used to genetically modify crops could be converted into a dangerous, and possibly illegal, bioweapon, alleges a Science Policy Forum report released today. Naturally, the organization leading the research says it’s doing nothing of the sort.
The report is a response to a ongoing research program funded by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dubbed “Insect Allies,” the idea is to create more resilient crops to help farmers deal with climate change, drought, frost, floods, salinity, and disease. But instead of modifying seeds in a lab, farmers would send fleets of insects into their crops, where the genetically modified bugs would do their work, “infecting” the plants with a special virus that passes along the new resilience genes.
The Super Rich of Silicon Valley Have a Doomsday Escape Plan
Years of doomsday talk at Silicon Valley dinner parties has turned to action.
In recent months, two 150-ton survival bunkers journeyed by land and sea from a Texas warehouse to the shores of New Zealand, where they’re buried 11 feet underground.
Seven Silicon Valley entrepreneurs have purchased bunkers from Rising S Co. and planted them in New Zealand in the past two years, said Gary Lynch, the manufacturer’s general manager. At the first sign of an apocalypse — nuclear war, a killer germ, a French Revolution-style uprising targeting the 1 percent — the Californians plan to hop on a private jet and hunker down, he said.
Restaurant Ticket Calls Woman 'Crazy Bitch' for Ordering a Burger Without Cheese
Henry’s Burgers & Cream is the kind of tiny local restaurant in a tiny Alabama town whose Facebook page is usually filled with updates about the daily specials (the fried popcorn shrimp plate seems to be a favorite), with good luck messages for the Brookwood Middle School football team, and frequent reminders to pre-order your party trays for Alabama football game days. Roll Tide, and all that.
On Wednesday, the Hatter family who run Henry’s posted an atypical update, ensuring everyone that they had issued a “heartfelt apology” to an irritated customer, and promising that “by God’s grace, [they] would to continue to please as many customers as possible.” And presumably, by God’s grace, none of their employees will call a customer a crazy bitch again, even if she does order a burger without cheese.
Where Are All Of The Pro-Choice Men?
Abortion rights and reproductive freedom are in jeopardy like never before. The Trump administration has proposed radical cutbacks to Title X, the nation’s only federal grant for family planning services. And now, with the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade and the right to safe, legal abortion are in imminent danger. A recently leaked email revealed that Kavanaugh once disputed the description of Roe v. Wade as “settled law” and said it could be easily overruled.
The American people have not been silent in their opposition to Trump and his decidedly anti-abortion Supreme Court nominee. Protests and demonstrations have been ongoing since Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings began on Tuesday. People are standing outside the hearing room holding signs or wearing T-shirts or “Handmaid’s Tale” costumes. Some are even interrupting the hearing itself.
But almost all of the protesters are women.

How Sex Robots Could Revolutionize Marriage—for the Better
With sexual needs outsourced to robots, marriages could become stronger than ever.
Technological change invariably brings social change. We know this to be true, but rarely can we make accurate predictions about how social behavior will evolve when new technologies are introduced. For example, no one should have been surprised that improvements in birth control technologies spawned more sexually permissive societies. But could anyone really have predicted that making it easier for women to control their fertility would lead to dramatic increases in births to unmarried women as a direct result of the loosening sexual mores that new birth control methods brought on? Likewise, early adopters probably knew that improvement in home production technologies would liberate women from household drudgery. But could they have known that the microwave oven would eventually contribute to societies’ more accepting attitudes toward same-sex marriage? Just as these technologies were catalysts for unintended social consequences, we should expect that the proliferation of robots designed specifically for human sexual gratification means that sexbot-induced social change is on the horizon.
A dad and son are accused of illegally killing a family of bears and covering it up. They didn't know a camera was running.
A father and son are accused of slaughtering a female black bear and her two cubs as they rested in their den in April.
Andrew Renner, 41, and Owen Renner, 18, of Palmer, Alaska, face several felony and misdemeanor charges related to illegal hunting. It is against the law to shoot a black bear with cubs in Alaska.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers, which announced the charges on Monday, said the act was caught on a motion-activated camera set up inside the den to monitor the bears as part of a study being conducted by the US Forest Service and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The camera produced both video and audio of the encounter.
