Does Federal Law Protect LGBTQ People? This Poll Reveals A Serious Misconception
According to a new survey, almost half of all Americans wrongly believe that federal law protects LGBTQ people from discrimination. In a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Tuesday, 45% of respondents incorrectly claimed that federal anti-discrimination protections apply to LGBTQ Americans, when in fact, no such protections exist due to longstanding opposition from conservatives.
“When you talk to people across the country, regardless of where they stand on LGBTQ equality, so many don’t know that in 30 states LGBTQ people are still at are risk of being fired solely because of their gender identity or sexual orientation,” Charlotte Clymer, the Human Rights Campaign's press secretary for rapid response, told Reuters. “These things are flying under the radar for most Americans.”

Vatican Rejects Notion That Gender Identity Can Be Fluid
The Vatican on Monday flatly rejected what it cast as the notion that individuals can choose their gender, releasing its first extensive document on the issue as Western countries are increasingly wrestling with the social and legal implications of more fluid definitions of identity.
The document, issued by the Vatican department overseeing Catholic education, echoed past statements by Pope Francis. It argued that acceptance of flexible ideas of gender posed a threat to traditional families and ignored the natural differences between men and women.
It lamented “calls for public recognition of the right to choose one’s gender, and of a plurality of new types of unions, in direct contradiction of the model of marriage as being between one man and one woman, which is portrayed as a vestige of patriarchal societies.”

The body of 23-year-old Chanel Scurlock was found in a field in Lumberton, North Carolina, just after midnight on Wednesday. She is at least the ninth Black trans woman killed in the U.S. in 2019, and the fifth killed in the past month, according to the Human Rights Campaign.
Police found Scurlock, who lived in Lumber Bridge, N.C., with fatal gunshot wounds after responding to reports of gunfire in the area. They have yet to identify a suspect, though Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins told The Robesonian, a local paper, that police have "great leads.

Homophobes Attack Congressional Black Caucus Over Equality Act
A right-wing group aims to spark outrage among black voters over an impending vote on the Equality Act.
Organizers for the Gone 2 Far Movement released an open letter through Christian Newswire attacking leadership from the Congressional Black Caucus.
The bizarre rant, signed by failed Congressional candidate Stephen Broden and right-wing radio host Randy Short, suggests the “Gay Equality Act” will set back minority rights.
The letter singles out Rep. Karen Bass, CBC chair, and other caucus members for refusing to “defend the real purpose of the 1964 Civil Rights Act as a scam to make 'Gay the New Black' wherein pedophiles, sodomites of all stripes, and persons of debased fetish needs are accorded protected class status akin to Blacks and women.”
The letter compares a vote for the Equality Act to the biblical story of disciple Judas Iscariot betraying Jesus Christ, though its unclear how many pieces of silver were exchanged or who will be crucified should the legislation pass.

Malaysian politician calls LGBT population 'dirty and smelly'
A Malaysian politician in parliament on Monday (18 March) described LGBT ‘phenomenon’ as ‘unnatural lust’ that ‘should never be accepted’.
Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali demanded to know what the government was doing to ‘curb LGBT practices’ after the Women’s March earlier this month included demands for LGBTI rights.
He also blamed LGBTI for rising HIV infections in the country.
‘This is unnatural lust and should never be accepted’ he said of the LGBTI community.
‘We want to know the actions taken by the government to curb LGBT practices’.
‘I liken it to building a house’ the politician said.
‘We make a door at the front, we make sure the door is beautiful, we paint it, carve it and spray it with air freshener.’
‘Why would we then want to go through the back door? The back door is dirty, it is not appropriate and smelly’.

Teen killers who allegedly shot musician to be charged as adults
A group of pistol-packing teens and a 12-year-old girl are facing murder charges after they allegedly robbed and shot to death a rising country music star in Nashville, police said.
The accused killers accosted 24-year-old Kyle Yorlets behind his home and opened fire when he refused to give them his car keys, they said.
The suspects were identified as Diamond Lewis, 15; Roniyah McKnight, 14; Decorrius Wright, 16; as well as the 12-year-old and a 13-year-old boy whose names were withheld because of their ages.
Prosecutors plan to charge them as adults, the Nashville Tennessean reported.
Police said the victim had been a random target.
“He’s an absolute, absolute innocent victim,” police spokesman Don Arron said. He added, “none of the five individuals [arrested] are a stranger to the system or this police department.”

It’s time for a #MeToo moment in hip hop
In the weeks following the horrific revelations made in Lifetime’s bombshell six-part docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly,” the fallout has been immense.
The 52-year-old R&B superstar, accused of alleged sexual and physical abuse with underage girls spanning nearly three decades, has parted ways with Sony Music Entertainment and its subsidiary RCA Records, following protests over his conduct.
But while a day of reckoning seems to be finally at hand for Kelly, the hip-hop and R&B world has yet to truly have the #MeToo moment that has rocked Hollywood, professional sports, the video-game industry and the journalism biz.
Rapper Kodak Black is awaiting trial this April for allegedly pinning down, biting and raping a woman in a South Carolina hotel. But despite such serious allegations, the tattooed 21-year-old “Tunnel Vision” hit-maker is still treated like an A-lister.
Teens in Make America Great Again hats taunted a Native American elder at the Lincoln Memorial
A crowd of teenagers surrounded a Native American elder and other activists and mocked them after Friday's Indigenous Peoples March at the Lincoln Memorial.
Videos of the confrontation show a smiling young man in a red Make America Great Again hat standing directly in front of the man, who was playing a drum and chanting. Other kids could be seen laughing, jumping around and making fun of the chants.
"I did not feel safe in that circle," said Kaya Taitano, a student at the University of the District of Columbia who participated in the march and shot the videos.
Shocking video of two churches pushing ex-gay therapy may help end the practice
While more US states prepare to ban so-called ex-gay conversion therapy, the harmful practice of trying to change someone’s sexual orientation remains legal through the UK. And a recent TV report has captured disturbing footage of two UK churches claiming that God can “fix” gay people.
An ITV investigative report revealed that Journey UK and World Mission Agency – Winners Chapel International (WMA-WCI) both advocate the idea that one can pray the gay away.
A man from Journey UK spoke to an undercover ITV reporter about how certain activities can help lessen one’s feelings of same-sex attraction. A pastor from WMA-WCI told the reporter that gay people are under Satan’s control and compared positive media depictions of gay people to Nazi propaganda.
The WMA-WCI pastor also said a 20-minute prayer over the reporter, even speaking in tongues, presumably attempting to “heal” him.
