Shocking video of two churches pushing ex-gay therapy may help end the practice

While more US states prepare to ban so-called ex-gay conversion therapy, the harmful practice of trying to change someone’s sexual orientation remains legal through the UK. And a recent TV report has captured disturbing footage of two UK churches claiming that God can “fix” gay people.

An ITV investigative report revealed that Journey UK and World Mission Agency – Winners Chapel International (WMA-WCI) both advocate the idea that one can pray the gay away.

A man from Journey UK spoke to an undercover ITV reporter about how certain activities can help lessen one’s feelings of same-sex attraction. A pastor from WMA-WCI told the reporter that gay people are under Satan’s control and compared positive media depictions of gay people to Nazi propaganda.

The WMA-WCI pastor also said a 20-minute prayer over the reporter, even speaking in tongues, presumably attempting to “heal” him.

Education Dept. Proposes Enhanced Protection For Students Accused Of Sexual Assault

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced sweeping rules on how colleges handle cases of sexual assault and harassment that she says will fix a "failed" and "shameful" system that has been unfair to accused students. In what the administration is calling a "historic process," the proposed rules aim to significantly enhance legal protections for the accused and reflect a sentiment expressed by President Trump that men are unfairly being presumed guilty. More than a year in the making, the rules replace Obama-era policies on how to implement Title IX, the law barring gender discrimination in schools that get federal funding.

The new rules are drawing both applause and anger.

Among the most significant changes is that schools can make it harder to prove allegations by raising the level of proof needed. Instead of requiring only a "preponderance of the evidence," as the Obama administration had directed, schools could demand "clear and convincing evidence." And many schools may well be forced to raise the bar, since the regulations also require that the standard for students be the same as that used for faculty and staff.

KANSAS OFFICIAL TELLS BLACK WOMAN HE'S MEMBER OF THE 'MASTER RACE:' 'DON'T EVER FORGET THAT'

A Kansas County commissioner is facing calls to apologize after telling a black woman that he is part of the “master race” during a routine public planning meeting.

The remark was made on Tuesday by Leavenworth County commissioner Louis Klemp, a white man, and seemingly directed at a woman presenting for an architecture firm. It has been branded as racist—and local media reported it was not the first time Klemp has sparked controversy.

“I don't want you to feel like I'm picking on you. Because we are part of the master race,” he said in the meeting. “You have a gap in your teeth you're the master race, don’t ever forget that.”

Bob Holland, another Leavenworth County commissioner, told KCTV5 that Klemp—who is reportedly due to leave his position on January 15 next year—should make an apology.

“What’s this master race?" Holland said on Wednesday. “None of us are a master race. We are all Americans, we are all human beings. I think he is a racist. I do. I think he owes an apology to that woman. I think he owes an apology to the whole commission. And the county.”

Conversion Therapy Is Still Happening And It's Killing LGBTQ Teens

This year, two movies about conversion therapy (or the idea that homosexuality and queerness are curable diseases) have hit the big screen to critical acclaim. Boy Erased, based on the memoir of the same title by Garrard Conley, and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, based on the novel by Emily Danforth, tell the stories of two teenagers from religious communities whose families enroll them in programs that promise to rid them of their same-sex attraction.

As someone from a religious background, I was moved by how realistic both films were about the pain of growing up in a community that rejects a major facet of your identity. But what I truly found to be one of the most emotional moments of Boy Erased was, in the film's final moments, when modern day conversion therapy facts started to appear on-screen. The film says that 700,000 LGBTQ people have been subjected to conversion therapy.

And it’s entirely true— conversion therapy is a reality. It’s still fully legally in 36 states, and strains of it run through too many religious communities to count. It's estimated that 20,000 LGBTQ teens will be subject to conversion therapy by a healthcare provider, and nearly 60,000 will be subject to "treatment" from a religious counselor before they turn 18.

Wisconsin high school students appear to make Nazi salute in prom photo

A Wisconsin school district is investigating a photo showing a group of high school boys apparently making the Nazi salute. A school official denounced the image on Twitter — and said it would pursue legal actions if necessary.

Baraboo Superintendent Dr. Lori Mueller said she became aware of the photo, which shows over 60 male students dressed in suits with their right arms extended upward, on Monday after it was posted on social media and received immediate backlash.

Being bullied as a teen robbed me of things I’ll spend my entire adult life getting back

What used to make your day worthwhile made mine miserable.

You made much of my teenage life unbearable and although the years have passed and I’ve moved forward to better places I want you to realise that some memories never do.

The worst memory; realising my vulnerable, adolescent mind was compelled to agree with your reasons for belittling my still growing nature.

This daily bombardment caused me to watch some of my future happiness and fond memories of youth, which everyone deserves, to slip somewhat through my fingers.

I knew how I would remember this and how it would affect my future.

As you know your playground torment of me was temporary but now as an adult I think I will permanently have to work on my recovery in order to accept the past, forgive you, let go of the anger and make up for lost time.

Jewish group says K-Pop band BTS should apologize over Nazi-style hats

Korean boy band BTS have been criticized by a Jewish human rights group for posing in headgear featuring a Nazi-style symbol.

In a statement posted on its website, the Simon Wiesenthal Center alleged that the popular K-pop group had posed in hats displaying the Death's-Head symbol of the SS -- the organization that oversaw the Nazi concentration camps.

Noting that the group were dropped last week from a planned Japanese TV appearance after one of its members wore a T-shirt that appeared to celebrate the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Nagasaki, the center's associate dean and director of global social action, Rabbi Abraham Cooper, said that the group owed both the "people of Japan and the victims of the Nazism an apology."

Dan Reynolds Says His LGBTQ Activism Invites Backlash On All Sides, But 'Everybody Has to Do Their Part'

Dan Reynolds is not afraid of alienating some in his audience. The Imagine Dragons frontman has been a fierce and outspoken ally for the LGBTQ community for the last few years, and has seen his fair share of criticism for being so vocal.

Reynolds opened up about that criticism in a recent interview with Vulture. The artist said that many of his critics were conservative parents who didn’t agree with his message of equality. “Going into this, I knew there would be people on the far right who were going to be upset,” he said of his activism. “People tell me they won’t allow their kids to go to my concerts anymore; that when I get to heaven, God’s going to be upset with me because I made so many kids gay.”

Hate Groups Are Using Online Games To Recruit Teens (Report)

Some extremist groups are using multiplayer games and in-game chat functions as a way to recruit new members, NPR reports.

It’s happening not only in-game, but via platforms like Discord and Reddit, as well. Some recruitment occurs during game livestreams on Twitch and YouTube, and even some harassment campaign planning occurs via these platforms.

Unicorn Riot published chat logs from Discord last year which revealed plans for the Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally from white supremacists, according to NPR.

So why are the groups taking to gaming spaces for new members? According to Joan Donovan of Data and Society, a research institute, white supremacists have a history of being innovative with using online spaces for recruitment. And, Donovan says that first-person shooter games are one space to find angry young men, according to NPR.

Prosecutor: Altar girl in relationship with priest pregnant

Authorities are investigating whether a Roman Catholic diocese in Ohio responded appropriately last November when it learned that a priest for two of its parishes had taken a now-pregnant altar girl to a wedding reception, Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn told The Associated Press.

Blackburn's office on Tuesday charged the Rev. Henry Christopher Foxhoven with eight counts of sexual battery for his relationship with the girl, who is 17. He is being held on a $1 million bond and doesn't have an attorney.

Revelations about Foxhoven's behavior have shaken Catholics in the two small former mining towns where Foxhoven ministered, Blackburn said. The story began to unravel Oct. 26 when the 45-year-old priest and the teen told her parents she was two months pregnant. A spokesman for the Diocese of Steubenville said Foxhoven called Bishop Jeffrey Montforton the next day to tell him about the relationship.

HOME’S AWFUL STENCH DWARFED ONLY BY OWNER’S HORRID SEXUAL ABUSE OF HIS DAUGHTER’S FRIEND

The stench of sex offender Matthew Scott Cook's home was so powerful, officers had to leave the house to get Hazmat suits before they returned.

When they did come back, they found the Blue Ash, Ohio home was filled with feces, garbage and more than 100 animals, including snakes and bearded dragons, cluttering the home that also served as the stage for the horrific sexual abuse of a young girl, according to documents obtained by The Cincinnati Enquirer.

The home, where Cook resided with his wife and two daughters, also had a room with sex toys, pornographic videos and a bed equipped with four-point restraints. The bedroom floor was littered with snake skins, the newspaper reports.

Cook pleaded guilty to gross sexual imposition and child pornography charges and was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for sexually assaulting one of his daughter's friends.
