Denny’s Manager Tried to Kick Out Black Women for Complaining About Racial Slurs
Three black Michigan women who were harassed at a Denny’s by four white bikers have alleged that the manager at the diner tried to make them leave when they complained about the bikers’ use of racial slurs, the Lansing State Journal reported Thursday. According to the newspaper, the manager, who later called law enforcement on the women when they wouldn’t leave, defended the bikers’ use of slurs as protected free speech.
The incident occurred back in October but received little attention at the time. The women, Sasha Collins, 27, Jennifer McEwen, 25, and LaMaya McGuire, 22, say they had arrived at the Denny’s in Delta Township around 4 a.m. after a night out celebrating Collins’ birthday. The women say they had not been drinking and that they were quietly waiting on their food when the four bikers arrived.
According to the Journal, which noted that security footage backed up much of the women’s account, the harassment began when one man in a Blue Angels motorcycle club jacket began loudly using racial slurs to talk about the women. He told a waitress to “serve them [racial slur] some T-bones.” The waitress ignored the slur.

Gay teen writes emotional letter to parents who won't accept him
A gay teen from Nanuet, New York, has written a heart-breaking letter to his parents who wouldn’t accept him for being who he is.
Kent Mendez, 19, tweeted a photo of the letter, in both English and Spanish, on 8 July in an act that has the entire social media website collectively crying.
In the devastating letter, Mendez explained that, with LGBTI youth rejected by their parents being more likely to consider taking their own live, he refused to ‘become another statistic.’
Mendez left it all behind on Sunday morning. The bedroom he had lived in for years. His dog, Valentino.
But in the letter he left behind for his mother and father, he explained that while the decision was difficult, the life he had led was even more so.
‘There hasn’t been a day where I haven’t cried or struggled to find the energy to get out of bed,’ he wrote.
‘I feel trapped and manipulated every time I walk out of my room.’

Anti-LGBTQ Group Protests at SCOTUS, Vows to End Marriage Equality
An anti-LGBTQ hate group took to the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to call for marriage equality to be overturned and promised to challenge the Equality Act in court.
At a rally featuring supposed ex-gay and ex-trans speakers, Americans for Truth About Homosexuality founder Peter LaBarbera stood in front of a rainbow-colored sign calling for justices to “Repeal Obergefell.”
“Four years ago today, the Supreme Court of the United States imposed homosexual so-called ‘marriage’ on the nation,” LaBarbera said. “The Supreme Court did something that it did not have the authority to do, which is to redefine marriage. This tragic ruling is immoral, unconstitutional, and imperious.”

Straight Oklahoma Ally Creates Anti-Bigot Pride Truck, Ends Homophobia
A straight man in Oklahoma became a viral queer ally after decorating his truck in honor of Pride month. Cody Barlow used colored duct tape to create a rainbow flag on the back of his truck, writing on Facebook that he’d “found a way to show my support for pride month” with the flag and using mailbox letters to write a message: “Not all country boys are bigots. Happy Pride month.”
“This is important to me, not only because I have family and friends that are LGBTQ+, but also because countless people have dealt with hatred and judgement simply for who they are, and/or who they love, for far too long,” wrote Barlow. “Obviously doing this isn’t going to change the minds of those who are intolerant, but hopefully it can help drown out the hatred with love.”

Ohio City Backs Down After Catholic School Files Lawsuit Over Religious Rights
The city of South Euclid, Ohio has backed down after a Catholic school filed a lawsuit challenging the city's anti-discrimination law on the grounds that it infringed on its religious freedom.
The city announced earlier this week it would not apply the law to the Catholic school after refusing for months to say whether the statute would require the school to operate against its religious beliefs, according to an Alliance Defending Freedom news release.
The Lyceum sued the city in April, arguing the law would violate its religious rights by raising the prospect of penalties for its beliefs about marriage and gender identity. The school suggested its admissions and employment policies could place it at risk under the ordinance.
The school upholds the Catholic beliefs that marriage is between a man and woman, sex should be reserved for marriage, and a person's gender is determined at birth. Students and faculty are expected to abide by these beliefs, and students who disagree with the teachings can be denied admission or expelled.

Ohio Gay Couple's Car Torched as Neighborhood Dispute Escalates

HOMOPHOBIC BULLYING RISES IN CHILDREN WHEN LGBT RIGHTS GET PUBLICLY DEBATED
Children endure from more homophobic bullying when LGBT rights are publicly debated, according to researchers.
The authors of the study published in the journal Pediatrics looked at the results of surveys completed between 2001 and 2014 by almost 5 million middle- and high-school students from about 5,000 California institutions. The team noted rates of homophobic bullying before and after the vote on Proposition 8, a statewide ballot initiative that asked voters to decide whether same-sex marriage should be banned, and whether only opposite-sex couples should be allowed to wed.
According to the researchers, the debate over Proposition 8, which voters approved in 2008 but a federal court ruled unconstitutional in 2010, “promulgated stigma” against homosexuals.
Among the questions the students were asked was: “During the past 12 months, how many times on school property were you harassed or bullied because you are gay or lesbian (or someone thought you were)?" They were also asked how often they were targeted because of their race, ethnicity or national origin; religion; or gender. Bullying was defined as students acting aggressively toward their peers.
