He was beaten after being called anti-gay slurs. Now his picture is going viral.
A gay man was was severely beaten by homophobic attackers, and a picture of his injuries is being shared widely on Facebook.
Ryan Williams, 22, said that he and his friends were going to a McDonalds in Preston, England, early in the morning this past Saturday when some people shouted anti-gay comments at them.
“There was a group of people nearby in the street and they started calling me and my friends gay,” he told the Mirror.
“We went over and told them it’s not okay to say things like that.”
The other group of people didn’t take kindly to being told to not be homophobic, so one of them hit Williams in the back of his head as he walked away.

A Bishop Wants to Solve Gang Violence by Spraying Holy Water from a Helicopter
The weather report in Buenaventura, Colombia, calls for thunderstorms this Sunday. That is a bit unfortunate, since it may prove tricky to differentiate between precipitation and holy water falling from the sky.
That afternoon, on the Lord's day of rest, Monsignor Rubén Dario Jaramillo Montoya, a Catholic bishop in the city, plans to hop in a helicopter and soak what he has described as crime-ridden streets with the blessed liquid. The ritual was set to be part of a religious feast celebrating Buenaventura's patron saint. But Montoya's real hope, he told a local radio station, was to "exorcise all those demons that are destroying our port."
Slain Grammy-Winning Musician Was Choked for 30 Minutes While Girlfriend Allegedly Punched Him
Two people have been indicted in the Bronx for their alleged roles in the slaying of Grammy-winning jazz drummer Lawrence Leathers, whose body was discovered last month in the stairwell of an apartment building.
Grand jurors returned indictments against Lisa Harris, described as Leathers’ girlfriend, and Harris’ friend, Sterling Aguilar, charging both with single counts of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide.
Prosecutors allege Leather, who was 37, died on June 2 during a fight with Harris in the Bronx apartment they shared.
Aguilar, 29, allegedly held Leathers in a chokehold for approximately 30 minutes as Harris, 41, sat on his chest and punched him several times in the face, according to prosecutors.

Catholic Bishops accuse Ikea of LGBTI indoctrination
Polish Catholic Bishops have attacked Swedish retail giant Ikea after it terminated an employee for homophobic comments.
Management at the Ikea store in Krakow fired the man known only known as, Tomasz K. It fired him after he posted homophobic comments on the company’s intranet network.
Tomasz objected to Ikea’s request that staff attend an LGBTI even in honor of Pride season. He posted his objection using two quotes from the Bible on the internal intranet.
In a statement Ikea said it fired him for ‘using quotes from the Old Testament about death and blood in the context of what fate should meet homosexual people’. It also fire him for ‘expressing his opinion in a way that could affect the rights and dignity of LGBT+ people.’
But unhappy with his termination, Tomasz has hired a lawyer and plans to sue Ikea. Another employee quit in protest after his termination.

Republican Congressman Wants to Defund PBS Over Gay Rat Wedding
Just when you thought gay ratgate was over, another right winger is still pressed about a children’s television show.
Republican congressman Doug Lamborn of Colorado is calling on the government to defund PBS following a May episode of beloved children’s show Arthur in which the title character’s teacher, Mr. Ratburn, married another man in a beautiful ceremony. Lamborn, in a column for The Daily Signal, wrote that “PBS writers deemed it appropriate to preach their liberal views on same-sex marriage to America’s young children.” Man, I’ve got to start reading this website!
“Taxpayers now know with complete certainty that the goal of the PBS cartoon is to impart social liberalism to children,” Lamborn continued. “Enough is enough. It is time to stop sending our hard-earned tax money to support programming that is objectionable to many Americans.”

Indiana Catholic School Fires Gay Teacher, Caving To Archdiocese
An Indiana Catholic high school has fired a married gay teacher to remain within the Archdiocese of Indianapolis.
The decision means Cathedral High School in northeast Indianapolis will avoid the punishment the neighboring Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School received just last week for following its conscience and refusing to fire its own gay and married employee.
Help us tell more of the stories that matter from voices that too often remain unheard.
Cathedral High School’s board of directors said in a letter on Sunday that if the school kept the gay teacher on staff, it would lose its nonprofit status, its diocesan priests and its ability to offer the Eucharist, a central Christian rite, among other consequences.
Leaders said they hoped the gay teacher’s termination won’t “dishearten” students.

Another study shows homophobic language isn’t linked to rejection of gay athletes
Another new study from Monash University again demonstrates that athletes using gay slurs don’t mean to convey messages of homophobia to their teammates, and in fact believe their teams would be welcoming places for gay athletes.
The study focused on 146 semi-professional ice hockey players in Australia. The sample group included a good mix of players from North America, Europe and Australia.
One of the most illuminating parts of the study looked at why athletes use gay slurs. Some of the results:
55% because they want to make people laugh
46% think the language is normal, so no one thinks about it
6% want to insult or bully others who are gay
1% say they are homophobic
Ex-chauffeur claims racism and sexual harassment by mom, daughter: suit
A wealthy mother and daughter living in “Grey Gardens”-like squalor subjected their personal assistant to racist slurs and sexual harassment, according to a new Westchester County lawsuit.
Shamel Thompson says he was paid $1,750 a week to chauffeur around the 28-year-old daughter, Becky Stein, and do simple housework at her and her mother’s $4 million White Plains home, which was “permeated with junk,” according to court papers.
But it turned into the job from hell, with Becky spewing the N-word at him and demanding that he wipe feces from her genitals, the suit says.

Ohio City Backs Down After Catholic School Files Lawsuit Over Religious Rights
The city of South Euclid, Ohio has backed down after a Catholic school filed a lawsuit challenging the city's anti-discrimination law on the grounds that it infringed on its religious freedom.
The city announced earlier this week it would not apply the law to the Catholic school after refusing for months to say whether the statute would require the school to operate against its religious beliefs, according to an Alliance Defending Freedom news release.
The Lyceum sued the city in April, arguing the law would violate its religious rights by raising the prospect of penalties for its beliefs about marriage and gender identity. The school suggested its admissions and employment policies could place it at risk under the ordinance.
The school upholds the Catholic beliefs that marriage is between a man and woman, sex should be reserved for marriage, and a person's gender is determined at birth. Students and faculty are expected to abide by these beliefs, and students who disagree with the teachings can be denied admission or expelled.

Chick-fil-A is about to get thrown off another college campus for being antigay
California Polytechnic State University’s faculty voted overwhelmingly to boot Chick-fil-A from campus.
The Academic Senate is the faculty’s governing body and represents 1300 faculty members at Cal Poly. Last Tuesday, the Academic Senate voted overwhelmingly in favor of a resolution calling on the school to cut ties with Chick-fil-A, citing the corporation’s donations to anti-LGBTQ organizations.
The university’s “values statement includes language that identifies LGBTQ as a classification of individuals that we want to embrace in our diversity and inclusion model,” said Thomas Gutierrez, the vice chair of the Academic Senate who introduced the resolution.
Homophobes Attack Congressional Black Caucus Over Equality Act
A right-wing group aims to spark outrage among black voters over an impending vote on the Equality Act.
Organizers for the Gone 2 Far Movement released an open letter through Christian Newswire attacking leadership from the Congressional Black Caucus.
The bizarre rant, signed by failed Congressional candidate Stephen Broden and right-wing radio host Randy Short, suggests the “Gay Equality Act” will set back minority rights.
The letter singles out Rep. Karen Bass, CBC chair, and other caucus members for refusing to “defend the real purpose of the 1964 Civil Rights Act as a scam to make 'Gay the New Black' wherein pedophiles, sodomites of all stripes, and persons of debased fetish needs are accorded protected class status akin to Blacks and women.”
The letter compares a vote for the Equality Act to the biblical story of disciple Judas Iscariot betraying Jesus Christ, though its unclear how many pieces of silver were exchanged or who will be crucified should the legislation pass.

Most Jamaicans want to keep same-sex activity illegal
New research has showed most Jamaicans want to still keep the ban on gay sex.
LGBTI organisation, the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All Sexuals and Gays (J-FLAG), commissioned the research.
It found between seven and 30% of the population identified as LGBTI. The research also found that 97% of people had very little understanding of trans people and trans issues.
‘Over the last couple of years, we have seen some improvement in the situation where LGBT people are concerned. I think there is respect and tolerance for the community, but we are still a very far way from where we need to go,’ J-Flag’s executive director, Jaevion Nelson told a Gleaner forum.
Nelson said bullying and discrimination was still a huge issue for LGBTI people. But he felt heartened by findings that 68% of employers and 88% of politicians would report violence against LGBTIs. But only 34% of the general public would do so.

It's Prom Season And The Racist Promposals Are Back
An Ohio teen was barred from prom after he decided to craft a racist promposal sign that read, “If I was black I’d be picking cotton but I’m white so I’m picking u for prom.”
I suppose it’s time we brace ourselves, because at this time of the year (much like Halloween) racism rears its ugly head.
“To be frank with you I thought, ‘Oh my goodness this is awful,'” Janice Wyckoff, the superintendent at Clear Fork Valley Local Schools told Fox8.
The news station declined to identify the student, who was seen in a photo with his prom date holding up the inappropriate sign. Wyckoff told the news station that she was not clear if the boy is a junior or a senior, but the girl pictured with him is not a student in the district.
Despite the fact that the promposal happened off school property, the school superintendent wants to send a clear message.
