Ex-football coach dangled $250K for player to make porno with him: cops

A former football coach at a Minnesota middle school allegedly filmed a porno with a player after dangling the promise of a six-figure payment, according to officials.

Daniel Rolyn Laskowski, who worked at Columbia Heights Public Schools, was charged Thursday with criminal sexual conduct for allegedly recording X-rated flicks with the 16-year-old student, news station KTSP reported.

Teens in Make America Great Again hats taunted a Native American elder at the Lincoln Memorial

A crowd of teenagers surrounded a Native American elder and other activists and mocked them after Friday's Indigenous Peoples March at the Lincoln Memorial.

Videos of the confrontation show a smiling young man in a red Make America Great Again hat standing directly in front of the man, who was playing a drum and chanting. Other kids could be seen laughing, jumping around and making fun of the chants.

"I did not feel safe in that circle," said Kaya Taitano, a student at the University of the District of Columbia who participated in the march and shot the videos.

Restaurant worker who says she was fired for speaking Spanish fights back

Francisca Pérez said she was going about her job as a line cook at a high-end California restaurant, where she worked for over a decade, when the owner fired her for speaking Spanish to a fellow worker.

“I felt humiliated," Pérez told NBC News. "I felt I was not worth anything in this country."

Pérez said that last May she and a recently hired waitress, Janet Ruelas-Nava, exchanged a few words in Spanish about whether a dish was ready to go out at Osteria Fasulo in Davis, west of Sacramento.

Pérez said the owner, Leonardo Fasulo, heard them and started yelling at Ruelas, saying they shouldn't speak Spanish at work.

Gay man films landlady demanding he move because of visiting ‘homosexuals’

A gay man in Florida recorded his landlady demanding he move out of her apartment. He says she turned unwelcoming after learning about his sexuality. The relationship broke down just days after he moved in.

Randal Coffman, 22, moved into the home of Jackie Cooper in Middleburg, Clay County, Florida. Cooper rents out a small apartment on the back of her property which has a separate entrance.

Coffman moved in 1 December. He says two weeks later Cooper demanded he move out. He believes his landlady had a change of heart when she discovered he’s gay.

His landlady told him he wasn’t allowed to bring girls back to the property late at night. That’s when he informed her that wouldn’t be happening as he’s gay.

After his phone was stolen, he was outed on social media & beaten in the street

A man in Seattle got beat up after a house guest stole his phone and posted graphic pictures of him on social media. His mother in Cameroon was also beaten and her house was destroyed.

According to the police report, he let a female friend from Cameroon stay with him and his husband. She “constantly told him he needed to change from being gay” and even offered to have sex with him in order to turn him straight.

While she was staying with him in August, she stole his phone and posted pictures of him and his husband to social media and sent them to his relatives.

She even took a photo of his marriage certificate and shared it.

Trump is forcing 4-H to stop welcoming LGBTQ kids & the guy who tried to block him just got fired

The youth development and mentoring organization 4-H is the latest target of the Trump administration. The group is under fire for being too nice to LGBTQ youth.

After the international youth organization issued diversity guidelines meant to grow membership by ensuring all children felt welcome, evangelical Christians and anti-LGBTQ hate groups targeted the group to try to get the policy withdrawn.

The Trump administration, beholden to the far right for power, has taken up the cudgel on behalf of their political overlords once again and this time they’re going to war against children.

Child bride auctioned on Facebook in 'barbaric use of technology'

Facebook has come under fire for a "barbaric use of technology" that allowed the sale of a child bride to be held on its site.

An auction was held on the social media platform for a 16-year-old girl in South Sudan which sought payment for her hand in marriage.
Facebook said the post was taken down as soon as the company learned of it, but that wasn't until after the girl was married.

According to children's rights organization Plan International, the girl was bid on by five men, some of whom were reportedly high-ranking South Sudanese government officials.

Multiple People Accuse Music Producer Hot Sugar of Sexual Assault and 'Toxic' Behavior

Multiple people have come forward to accuse Nick Koenig, a.k.a. music producer and DJ Hot Sugar, of assault and “toxic,” “controlling” behavior.

The accusations, which The Daily Beast’s gender reporter Emily Shugerman described as “a kind of open secret in parts of the music world,” came to light on November 9, thanks to an Instagram account called @realhotsugar. The account—which a anonymous former partner of Koenig’s says she created after she heard alarming allegations from others—began posting anonymous claims of abuse and predatory behavior, along with contextually damning social media posts made by the musician in the past.

How the Catholic 'alt-right' aims to purge LGBTQ members from the church

The call for action against the "Forces of Organized Perversion" landed in the inboxes of conservative Roman Catholics across the country just before Election Day.

“Have you had enough?” activist Randy Engel wrote in a column that first appeared on the conservative website “Or will you wait until the Homosexual Collective’s hobnail boot is pressed on the neck of your prone body or that of your child or grandchild before reacting?”

“Cast your vote for God, family, and nation,” she wrote.

Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith hates gays, loves voter suppression, and thinks hanging black people is funny

Meet Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi. She’s currently fighting to keep her seat in the U.S. senate, to which she was appointed earlier this year following the retirement of Thad Cochran.

Hyde-Smith finished first in Mississippi’s “jungle primary” on November 6, but she was unable to win more than 50% of the vote, meaning she’s now in a runoff against Democrat Mike Espy, who is poised to be the state’s first African American U.S. senator since Reconstruction.

This week, Hyde-Smith, who, naturally, opposes same-sex marriage (she says it goes against her “personal and religious beliefs”), came under fire when disturbing video of her using racially-charged language emerged online.

In the video, the 59-year-old Trump ally can be heard praising one of her most loyal supporters at a campaign event, telling a crowd of white people: “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row!”

Education Dept. Proposes Enhanced Protection For Students Accused Of Sexual Assault

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos announced sweeping rules on how colleges handle cases of sexual assault and harassment that she says will fix a "failed" and "shameful" system that has been unfair to accused students. In what the administration is calling a "historic process," the proposed rules aim to significantly enhance legal protections for the accused and reflect a sentiment expressed by President Trump that men are unfairly being presumed guilty. More than a year in the making, the rules replace Obama-era policies on how to implement Title IX, the law barring gender discrimination in schools that get federal funding.

The new rules are drawing both applause and anger.

Among the most significant changes is that schools can make it harder to prove allegations by raising the level of proof needed. Instead of requiring only a "preponderance of the evidence," as the Obama administration had directed, schools could demand "clear and convincing evidence." And many schools may well be forced to raise the bar, since the regulations also require that the standard for students be the same as that used for faculty and staff.

Conversion Therapy Is Still Happening And It's Killing LGBTQ Teens

This year, two movies about conversion therapy (or the idea that homosexuality and queerness are curable diseases) have hit the big screen to critical acclaim. Boy Erased, based on the memoir of the same title by Garrard Conley, and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, based on the novel by Emily Danforth, tell the stories of two teenagers from religious communities whose families enroll them in programs that promise to rid them of their same-sex attraction.

As someone from a religious background, I was moved by how realistic both films were about the pain of growing up in a community that rejects a major facet of your identity. But what I truly found to be one of the most emotional moments of Boy Erased was, in the film's final moments, when modern day conversion therapy facts started to appear on-screen. The film says that 700,000 LGBTQ people have been subjected to conversion therapy.

And it’s entirely true— conversion therapy is a reality. It’s still fully legally in 36 states, and strains of it run through too many religious communities to count. It's estimated that 20,000 LGBTQ teens will be subject to conversion therapy by a healthcare provider, and nearly 60,000 will be subject to "treatment" from a religious counselor before they turn 18.

Why racist politics appeals to white women, explained by American history

“What is wrong with white women?” Moira Donegan asked at the Guardian after last week’s midterm elections.

“Why do half of them so consistently vote for Republicans, even as the Republican party morphs into a monstrously ugly organization that is increasingly indistinguishable from a hate group?”

Questions about white women’s allegiances came to the fore again this week, when news broke that a white woman senator facing a runoff in Mississippi had made a joke on the campaign trail about attending a “public hanging.”

Progressives sometimes expect white women, as a group, to support the interests of people of color of all genders — after all, women know what discrimination feels like.

“Most of us continue to see white women through the lens of gender,” explained Stephanie E. Jones-Rogers, a history professor at UC Berkeley and the author of the forthcoming book They Were Her Property: White Women as Slave Owners in the American South. “This allows for us to be optimistic about the possibility that their gendered oppression will allow for them to find common cause with other dispossessed groups.”

But that common cause has been elusive.
