Shape of Water, The (2017)
The monster remains an animal which fetishizes the romance. The entirety had me walking through beautiful fairy tale halls and I bought it. 25-Oct-2018
L.O.R.D.: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties (2016)
The logic doesn't matter. Feast on the luscious realism of their art and the low-key male romance. 14-Oct-2018
The haunt's mythology is terrifying but the present laid out flicks instead of punches. 04-Oct-2018
Small pot, lightly simmered, stirred with some creative ideas. The scares come from our thoughts. 03-Oct-2018
Big Chill, The (1983)
Abundant talent and beauty of superior beings conveying and pondering mid-life. The music is its only source of action because the talk is its core and rhythm. The resolution that sleeping with old friends is the cure for almost every ailment is irrational. 24-Sep-2018
A grand illusion envisioned by perfectionists. Bergman contains her judgment and allows history to determine as Brynner showcases the array of his Jedi talent. The film commits to its deception. 24-Sep-2018
The macho pose may seem off date but who cares when the master has proliferated a grand illusion and Zoe Saldana is gut wrenched. 15-Sep-2018
American Loser (2007)
Sean William Scott sheds the meathead to incorporate his interpretation of what a mental distortion feels like. I believed every humiliating nuance and exasperated breath. Gretchen Mol extols the beautiful appearance of it. It can't be happy because its truth. 01-Sep-2018
The heritage is beautifully painted, the inclusiveness is generous and the talent is high energy. It could have been a sweet corny gem. The music and dance resonate individually but the editing doesn't enforce the power to merge and impact the art. 19-Aug-2018
Everything, Everything (2017)
The comfort it establishes assures us of a thoughtful investment. Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson provide a bright light for their star, always convincing us dreams are necessary and that kindness is inherent. Anika Noni Rose lends the adult voice a striking parental interpretation.
The script keeps it level even when our feet are off the ground.
The Little Prince analysis saddened me. 15-Aug-2018
Muscle Beach Party (1964)
Its progressive in its use of men as sexual/gay bait, our parents consumed much energy in their youth and Frankie and Annette defined teenage charisma. It's unfortunate the ending piles so much silliness to appease short attention spans (parents) but it zips. 07-Aug-2018
Big Sick, The (2017)
Its not outrageous in comedy but its perceptive in family relations and love. It argues stereotypes, parenting and choices convincingly and it presents the actors amiably. Kumail Nanjiani espouses his culture with nods to old traditions while embarking on new ones as an American. Zoe Kazan demonstrates love with a minimum drop of physicality and Ray Romano splatters all the isms that make him classic. 01-Aug-2018
Her piggish husband has been possessed by a gentler woken ghost. What is a woman to do? Half the fun is figuring it out and celebrating the film's laughs, zestful anterior American tunes and "no bullshit" relationship conclusions. I might've chosen wrong for her but she didn't. 10-Jul-2018
Mrs. Doubtfire (1993)
When a director has an improbable script he assigns an adept talent that automatically enumerates sweetness and delight. It's all about Robin and we succumb. 05-Jul-2018
Growing Up Smith (2015)
Bathed in American pride and adorability it focuses on assimilation, heritage and individuality. It represents, educates and entertains. 01-Jul-2018
