Soul (2020)

A family film split in half. The adults receive culturally defined animation and the kiddies get dots reimagining the meaning of life. It's bold to reinforce a belief on someone, it's even bolder to downplay it so I can believe it. 21-Jan-2021
Over The Moon (2020)

Glen Keane weaves plenty of magic but the story cremates it. The mythology does not resonate as an inspiring fairy tale that would empower a girl by sending her out of the stratosphere. The how to the moon was unbelievable. I know its fantasy but my brain didn't even want to. Doesn't it cost billions to get a man on the moon? The moon is "gummi land" ruled by the protagonist of the mythology. Chang'e is an exquisite piece of animation whose suffering and selfishness make the circumstances obsolete. I liked everything about home. Home is where the magic needed to happen.
(Why are rabbits only cute in animation?) 04-Nov-2020
Addams Family, The (2019)

Morticia was lacking the sultriness Gomez used to devour. Gomez was lacking the passion he exhibited at the most ludicrous and divine things. Wednesday could have used a little less rich girl in her voice and a lot more bitch. Uncle Fester was destroyed. Bette Midler was the only one of the group to have seen more than one episode of the tv series and gave Grandmama her unique flair. The family is constantly trying to kill or destroy each other, ad nauseam. Somebody missed the point of The Addams Family and what they constituted. They were us fighting for our place in the world from the imagination of a mad man. The writers need to apologize to the artists for making them create the angriest animated film ever. Dude, that's coming from me. 01-Oct-2020
Trolls World Tour (2020)

Stomach ache candy and toxic individuality. It's B.C. and origin celebration that children can't apply to this generation. We descend from pods and no longer recognize individuality. You can try but the color will be swiped out of your candy. Its message is barbaric but its delight and bewitchery force us to "suck it." 13-Sep-2020
Toy Story 4 (2019)

The toys still wonder, crack smiles and grant blessings of a childhood institution from a very long time ago. The adventures became more human, the suffering became internalized, everybody grew up and moved on. Bittersweet. 12-Jun-2020
In This Corner Of The World (2016)

Ambitious and lovingly detailed account of a war torn life. The audacity of surviving when so much has perished. 28-Dec-2019
I Lost My Body (2019)

It lost me at the misadventures of a hand. 09-Dec-2019
Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse (2018)

The soundtrack doesn't bother to incorporate itself, Peter Parker sounds froggy but the art reaches magnificence. 11-Jul-2019
Lilo & Stitch (2002)

A little off-kilter, one of a kind and a charming diversion. 07-Jun-2019
Princess And The Frog, The (2009)

It's a sumptuous celebration of black heritage in animation. When the frogs are introduced it hazes the celebration. It becomes more about frogs and less about culture. 21-Mar-2019
Incredibles 2 (2018)

It's beautiful art. The family had two stars (mama/baby) and three supporting players. The thrill has dissipated. 16-Dec-2018
Batman: Bad Blood (2016)

The bats extend their wings, the birds prey and the story unfolds without the harness live film cuckolds. They are free to explore the complexities of their being. 02-Nov-2018
L.O.R.D.: Legend of Ravaging Dynasties (2016)

The logic doesn't matter. Feast on the luscious realism of their art and the low-key male romance. 14-Oct-2018
Avatar (2009)

The macho pose may seem off date but who cares when the master has proliferated a grand illusion and Zoe Saldana is gut wrenched. 15-Sep-2018
Mary and the Witch's Flower (2017)

I was more taken away by its beauty than its logic. 08-Aug-2018
