Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn (1982)
It's an old friend I had no idea I made. It's everything it pretends to be. 12-Nov-2018
Big Chill, The (1983)
Abundant talent and beauty of superior beings conveying and pondering mid-life. The music is its only source of action because the talk is its core and rhythm. The resolution that sleeping with old friends is the cure for almost every ailment is irrational. 24-Sep-2018
Love, Simon (2018)
It's a gulp full of hope where little offense is discharged and flecks of reality are spat.
Fairytales lift the imagination but authenticity will empower children. Its a disservice to send them out into the world with our fanciful wants. 27-Aug-2018
Lady Bird (2017)
Laurie Metcalf is ripe to play Carrie White's mother but the film doesn't allow its characters plenitude. The personalities change so abruptly that the film ends up not having a point of view. 19-Aug-2018
The family is that much creepier because we recognize them. 13-Aug-2018
My Friend Dahmer (2017)
Meyers directs its star like he's auditioning for an improv comedy sketch and photographs him a little too delightfully. Everything curls from a false appearance and all we learn from the destined monster is that he was a grand jokester. I thought Anne Heche as the devil's mother would tap into crazy and reach acting nirvana but insecurity grips and shuts her down. 08-Jul-2018
Like Father, Like Son (1987)
Not accurate in transformation, infantile in comedy and not funny in any era.
In a true life scenario I'd be incapable of enjoying a dad transplant because I don't want to be the keeper of my father's junk. 14-Jun-2018
Bittersweet Love (1976)
They dealt with incest by sudsing, name dropping and securing an actress of "natural" superiority. Points were made and evaluations considered. Celeste Holm didn't waste her legend, the compassion was still in her eyes. 07-Jun-2018
Friend Request (2016)
Alicia Debnam-Carey is ready and Connor Paolo presents a roaring pocket but relying on the supernatural disconnects us from the suspense that reality was holding. 11-May-2018
Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number! (1966)
What was once a playful satire on the battle of the sexes is today considered educational sex exploitation. It's breezy and disrespectful but its also nervy. The men were talking about how they perceived three generations of women and how the female always acquiesced. Either the women weren't listening or they were content as long as men pretended to care about them. Elke Sommer is courageous sexual dynamite, Phyllis Diller played it like one of the boys and Hope got forgiven for every sexual invective. The movie gets broad and loses its aspiration but it does not need to be erased. It teaches us a history parents cannot. 21-Mar-2018
I tuned in to watch a victorious woman who exceeded tragedy by virtue of loving powerful men and survived them until obtaining power of her own. The film loses its case when the person watching can't digest any of it. The direction spins from comedic parody to morose. I was going to pounce on Portman's Nicole Kidman crossed with Anna Farris accent but the first lady did sound like that. I must commend her on her hard work. 18-Mar-2018
Office Christmas Party (2016)
There are moments where saccharin and fraternity are cast aside to serve impish amusement, like Aniston snapping to a bratter to go fuck herself, but it's mostly underwritten sitcom blather incapable of boosting their TV Q. 23-Dec-2017
The fondness evaporates like the wave it rolled in. The males are directed to reach a pitch that only dogs can hear while sexism and adolescence occupy the vigor in their stance.
The beauty and a drip of magic are found underwater esp. when Darryl Hannah sadly conveys the predicaments of being special and the awkwardness in trying to be a woman.
Allen Bauer's (Tom Hanks) betrayal at discovery of Madison's (Darry Hannah) etherealness is absurd and painful. Why would a man condemn a love interest he's been fantasizing about since childhood? 20-Nov-2017
The sister is thinly characterized, probably because mental health disorders are plenty and individual. The movie succeeds in questioning the medical establishment, drugs and the parenting skills that help catapult the disagreeable nature of the disease.
Performers are on esp. Hershey who sneers with discontentment and self-castigation.
The film is TV small with passionate idealism and there is nothing wrong with that. 24-Oct-2017
Alien Resurrection (1997)
It continues, finds a genuine gimmick to bring Ripley back and includes all the elements that made the mythology infamous, yet, at every turn, I felt something missing.
The new incarnation of Ripley is kickass monster of little heart and the movie needed the fire the original stirred.
There are sound action sequences, but the pace could have used a kick and the new alien was laughably sorry. 16-Oct-2017
