Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn (1982)
It's an old friend I had no idea I made. It's everything it pretends to be. 12-Nov-2018
2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
Candied environment, matching toy cars and boy tramp stampede. It doesn't get more boyly than this. 30-Aug-2018
It affirms its origin and endears us with embellishments. It debates life assumptions and Casper is illuminated with a thoughtful backstory. It's magic with gumption. 27-Aug-2018
A future world where men control the financial and the empowering facets of every woman. She's a mother to a gifted daughter, too old and unattached to succeed financially and whose choices for betterment are minimal. The scares arise from her choices but her heart makes it logical. 23-Aug-2018
Handsome production whose recounting depended on star magnetism to lift it.
Exhaustion might make Pratt squishier but it deters him from mixing the right cocktail that would allow him chemistry with Lawrence. Lawrence fares better but the box she's given to act in isolates her. It's a study of "something else" in the actors' minds that the audience shouldn't be privy to. 29-Nov-2017
Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959)
Mason implements arrogance to the professor whilst Boone plus Ronson saunter their commodities and Arlene Dahl inhabits feminist grace.
The film manages to sneak song into the adventure and it doesn't wither. The effects were an outline for better but the handcraft marvels.
It's not a jet but it doesn't move like a helicopter either. Nice pastime. 02-Nov-2017
Alien Resurrection (1997)
It continues, finds a genuine gimmick to bring Ripley back and includes all the elements that made the mythology infamous, yet, at every turn, I felt something missing.
The new incarnation of Ripley is kickass monster of little heart and the movie needed the fire the original stirred.
There are sound action sequences, but the pace could have used a kick and the new alien was laughably sorry. 16-Oct-2017
Kong: Skull Island (2017)
You have to trample all the human characters in order to enjoy some towering monster mash. Once there, you'll realize it was all premature squirt because not many regarded the material. 24-Sep-2017
Max Steel (2016)
Respect for constructing a film with its roots intact but the artist generically stamps it when he should have signed it. 28-Aug-2017
Everyone is in tune, in step and enchanting. Amy deserves the most credit as her gleeful execution can traverse time while Marsden nips alongside her. It is only when Sarandon's witch becomes live that the movie loses its place but never its heart, rhythm or pleasantness. 03-Aug-2017
Huntsman, The: Winter's War (2016)
"Frozen" effigy. Chris Hemsworth can't be knocked off his hero stance. Emily Blunt wears her crown fully dimensional but the script makes her look out of place. Charlize returns but doesn't seem to have inhabited her character long enough to make her sting. I'm sure Chastain wishes to be confused with her double. 21-Jul-2017
Mass appeal on a brutish level. It's not as bad as it was touted, not as great as presumed. It's honest to its fountainhead and as mesmerizing as the cutscenes from a great RPG. Time might actually benefit this one. 25-Apr-2017
Mechanic: Resurrection (2016)
Alba's gifts have been boxed as Statham stuffs the screen with manly bluster and the director with crafty set-ups and action sequences. It doesn't go beyond what's asked for and that may be enough. 24-Apr-2017
Garm Wars: The Last Druid (2014)
The look and style are detailed mayhem and respect. The three leads are playing the game for us but the politics of the world they are embattled in is uninspired and vague. 15-Apr-2017
Stir of Echoes (1999)
It delivers on the promise of creeps and scares. It keeps the hokum reasonably vague and acceptable as Bacon takes over to stir tension as he unravels the mystery of reality. 01-Apr-2017
