Like Father, Like Son (1987)
Not accurate in transformation, infantile in comedy and not funny in any era.
In a true life scenario I'd be incapable of enjoying a dad transplant because I don't want to be the keeper of my father's junk. 14-Jun-2018
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
When transcribing a cartoon to live it needs to be cautious not to bolster caricature as it may spark an aneurysm. 09-Nov-2017
Fifty Shades of Black (2016)
Indulged, delayed, depraved and puerile whoopee cushion. 31-May-2017
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016)
I can laugh at your ass clown from any past all you want but don't expect to get to this age doing as you've done and not be honest to what that lifestyle does. You don't need to preach but you can caution us a little. Maturity expects that from you. 12-May-2017
American Psycho (2000)
The only person that seems to be having any fun is Christian Bale. None of it spills onto the movie, other actors (except Chloe and Reese, they are immune) or splatters onto the audience. His American accent is a weird and obnoxious hybrid of what black men used to pretend white men sounded like peppered with Jim Carrey lunacy. The trail left behind each murder is ludicrous and obvious and I expected a woman helmer to have included an ironic female empowering end. It is definitely a movie of its time that should remain encapsulated until another that could embrace its quirkiness as art. 15-Mar-2017
Simpsons Movie, The (2007)
It starts prophetically enough when Itchy runs against Hillary Clinton, wins the presidency, then pushes the nuclear button to kill Scratchy stranded on the moon. The production is overexcited and there is no polish. It's an amalgamation of events frequented on the series that inscribes it as an incomplete film. The laughs are lean because the jokes are butterball mean instead of swift incisive. 28-Jan-2017
They collected every neglected SNL player and had them recreate the personalities of all their sketched characters and corral them into one identity then slapped a discarded Brady Bunch reunion script on it and branded it a film. I can agree that what Tina Fey and Amy Poehler improvise live and in shorter spurts should be contained, but having them impersonate teenagers with no assist from a magic man is regurgitating. In the struggle to contend with the macho audience the filmmakers are forgetting to enable their women to enact what some of us love about them. It's bonkers. Women in comedy must embody a man or a teenager whilst Stallone gets bleary eyed in action. They could have been fighting over a doll for all they cared. 11-Jan-2017
Prelude To A Kiss (1992)
Even as a gay man I could not appreciate this romantic sham that enables the beautiful countenance of Baldwin to be married to a dilapidated old man for half of its delineation. While Ryan slumbers in cute looniness, Baldwin is saddled with roping in the sense, the heart and the commitment. Except for lighting him lovingly the production returns nothing of what he's trying to bestow. The chemistry between the majors has a thick coating that the story and direction can't abet in mingling them realistically and the romance is lost when Baldwin is forced to seriously enact homoerotic sketches that SNL later exploited. It doesn't help that the old man has no appeal past being crypt-like. This is fetish romance with a superior ick factor. 05-Jan-2017
Spice World (1997)
Are there girls in this movie? Do they sing and dance? Is that their talent? Sorry, I was too busy being distracted by the gonzo creeping out of Alan Cumming's pants. 30-Nov-2016
Mermaid, The (2016)
The bizarre silliness that saturates the screen makes it intolerable to endure. 28-Nov-2016
Army of Darkness (1992)
It seems to be channeling Xena instead of Evil Dead. Campbell has a pretty face with no qualms about contorting it and letting others abuse it for entertainment intent. Bruce is a funny man with a steady quip drawl yet what Raimi asks of him is incoherent and sublimely silly. The segments that work are the ones that tip a hat to its creation and even though Sam didn't want to recapitulate but reaffirm the series, he chose his decade poorly. Some experimental effects can't stop it from being the odd duck of the trilogy whose only glue is Ash and the man who slays playing him. 02-Nov-2016
Good Luck Chuck (2007)
Dane Cook is abominable Papsmear, the script is abusive to women and anything resembling funny is due to stuff they got away with. You'll shake your heads and roll your eyes more times than you'll laugh. These men recognize absolutely zip about the opposite gender and display little appreciation for what gets them off. 29-Sep-2016
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004)
High-strung embarrassment. 15-Sep-2016
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
How sad that with such various bombast that anything resembling glimmer can ever make its way through the darkness. Another Ken doll with no voice is added to the mix and all we can do is spray paint their tenement in reverence and roar at their lack of responsiveness. Jesse Eisenberg seemed so confused with his choice that I will pretend he was playing the Mad Hatter auditioning for the Riddler. I didn't see the need to add flamboyance to Lex Luther's character unless you are born with it. The super cameos are just that except for Gal Gadot's un-patriotic and wan Wonder Woman. Amy Adams, these people can't hear you, don't bother breathing any of your talent on them.
The vigilante has a problem with the do-gooder alien for killing an alien bent on destroying earth and in the process looks to have killed multiple people and destroyed plenty of homeland proving this odd stance. Did they ever think to use red kryptonite to make Superman evil so we can discuss the stupidity that ensues after? I am so sick of DC "dark is the night" or "Jesus" realism. Color is the future. 06-Sep-2016
Dr. T and The Women (2000)
It's Richard Gere and a lot of irksome female acting. Tara Reid is the only one who needed to impress and she succeeds. Shelly Long's country accent is convulsive; Farrah seems too fragile and foreboding of her true self and is given a thankless and exploitative role as well as an unbelievable illness; most of the other women are reduced to cloying or flashers of flesh. The movie almost redeems itself at the end by having Dr. T. suffer his comeuppance but it spirals to fantasy land where the cure for too many annoying women in this poor man's life is more women of a different nature. If I were strait I would have become allergic. Altman is the master of more than one conversation piping at the same time. I'm sure he needs to repeat this antic constantly when the script has little to say except how sexist these men are. 25-May-2016
