Bittersweet Love (1976) Arf

They dealt with incest by sudsing, name dropping and securing an actress of "natural" superiority. Points were made and evaluations considered. Celeste Holm didn't waste her legend, the compassion was still in her eyes. 07-Jun-2018

Exorcist, The (1973) Full Moon

Nightmare of my childhood dreams. It scared the Jesus out of me and allowed me to champion fear. It's also a metaphor for how parents perceive teenage evolution. 29-May-2018

Marilyn Chambers embodies and Cronenberg almost defeats the improbability of the story. 16-May-2018

King Kong (1976) Bites

Jessica overcame it, Jeff squishes what he can from unkempt, the effects now match the script (awful) and Kong is perverted. It's beautiful score deserves a better movie. 18-Apr-2018

Ultimate Warrior, The (1975) Whimper

No guts, no punch just an action legend trying to accelerate a production that is presented like we interrupted it halfway through. 23-Oct-2017

Alien(1979) Full Moon

SciFi buffet, clenched suspense and frightful horror. Ridley's patience is as remarkable as the resonant silence. Even at perfection there are tech and editing flaws but because one of the most prodigious mythologies is being crafted, they are vaporous. Waiting for Sigourney to switch on badass, is woman empowerment legend. 28-Jul-2017

Eyes of Laura Mars, The (1978) Whimper

The reason to watch is to linger lovingly at Faye attempts at acting out of a trashcan. It's fun to watch as she suffers gallantly but even harder to fathom how this antiseptic slasher thinks it deserved to incorporate her. 23-Jul-2017

Rich Kids (1979) Woof

Divorce, lies, parenting and children coming of age. It is established passively, with no music to define emotions for the audience and mostly the timber of an actor's voice to propel process. Every type of parenting is introduced but no one holds the answer because the deduction is that a little bit of each is what serves to bring up a good kid. It ponders much and speaks truth whenever it thinks of it. The players are all substantial but Kathryn Walker is undeniable. 16-Mar-2017

Towering Inferno, The (1974) Arf

The movie has its place in history and I remembered it as it was perceived for its time. Unfortunately, technology does not allow for the tweaking of effects that would provide the present with resonance. Had it not relied so heavily on its tricks it might have thrilled but all I can see is the hard work, I can no longer feel it. Its only power is gazing at an abundance of stars some of which fare, others which just beg. Faye Dunaway who spends a lot of time licking on Paul Newman, predates Mommie Dearest but still acts like Joan Crawford which makes you question if her Joan was a revelation or was she always swiping from her? Of the two Alpha blondes, Steve and Paul, MacQueen proves that only his gets fondly yanked. 12-Mar-2017

Superman (1978) Woof

They spare no expense and it looks it. 50% of its magic is retained and the other needs some cleanup but Reeve is still the ultimate Superman because he recognizes that you need to be Clark Kent for the audience to accept his omnipotence. His muscles don't bulge and his suit is basic but he's got the cartoon countenance, the legs, the sac and the swagger. Marrying a personality to an acting talent also lifts. The threat fails because Lex Luthor should never be characterized as a bufoon, same to Ned Beatty's Otis. Valerie Perrine should have been allowed more VaVa Voom and Lois didn't need to be so frantic to show gumption but the chemistry with Reeve can't be extinguished. A refresh for an ending is a cop-out and that ruins an otherwise stellar attempt. 15-Jan-2017

Rose, The (1979) Arf

Bette Midler is not tragic enough to portray this oppressed music major. You cannot let joy seep through no matter how much you relish the pain. If you're looking to quench the musical flavor that "The Rose" theme song inflames, you will be disappointed as its an add-on anthem that only emphasizes how unmemorable the score is. The drag ingredient elevates as the lesbian moment is awkward. Bette is an unwilling Gaycon champion and proves it with every tendency. Cliche absorbs the rest. 08-Jan-2017

Westworld (1973) Woof

We are much closer to revolutionizing the design set up in this 70s cautioner. It makes sense, its fun and it lays the infrastructure for future films that aspired trump. Arnold is the ultimate terminator but Yul created the mold. 03-Jan-2017

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) Full Moon

The wealth of enormity and magic is in every frame that Spielberg comprises, every note that Williams hits and that every actor emotes. Spielberg devises a fairy tale sci-fi that frightens with further fundamental examination. He liberated our minds to see fascination in every dark sky, escape into a magnanimous and boundless universe and to believe. The aliens themselves are a fail. Everything depends on that moment and all I saw was costumed babies blindly bumping into each other and a very non-specific leader sadly fragmented of clay. We forgive it because Spielberg has already tapped into the part of our brain that can concoct the better outcome and a place in our hearts that will trust his lead because he gifted enough. 31-Dec-2016

Who'll Stop The Rain (1978) Woof

What is mostly retained from an actioner that flatters 70s TV show bustle, is the swelter and vigilance Nolte and Weld enact. The movie works because the stars thought enough to add detail and appeal to their characters whilst the villains added stereotypical bumble. 08-Dec-2016
