Best Friends (1982)
Independent woman reaches high anxiety whilst reluctantly marrying her partner of five years. She believes marriage kills love and he's too venerable to start over. After a quickie marriage they embark on an in-law and family tour which reflect the weirdly mechanical influences the villagers brandish.
As much as Goldie and Burt appeared incompatible, their individual magnetism blind us into believing. Ron Silver delivers enthusiastic squishiness to the funniest bits.
It's a good companion to "Marriage Story."
It focused mainly on the topic of marriage which wears out.
The dialogue is written so we can understand them but not them, each other.
It refuses to answer its question.
It's breezy to watch. 29-Feb-2020
Wound, The (2017)
Honoring male privilege while contesting the rules. The gay is treated as a natural conjecture that doesn't adhere to God's Plan but satiates a hungry soul. The men push God's Plan, diddle each other whenever possible and don't allow snot nosed effete city boys to put a label on it. The ending spells it out. 21-Jan-2020
Beach Rats (2017)
The lengths gay boys will meander to discharge closeted sex and remain doped. A waste of pretty with nothing relevant to say. 29-Dec-2019
The movie where JLo snatched her talent back. The ladies are gloriously scintillating as the caper is fermented. 22-Dec-2019
House Arrest (2019)
Daddy mass resigns from societal distress by home imprisonment. It's a phenomenon worth exploring. The cast is pleasing and energetic, the sets are envy inducing but the comedy sways towards buffoonery. Daddy, Rambo and a cell phone trick clinch it. 01-Dec-2019
Butterfield 8 (1960)
Anatomy of a slut. The downfall of insatiable passion is perception. La Liz pounces, purrs and self-destructs. She is not allowed empowerment because she wont march. She wont march because she's empowered. The dialogue is sharp and reflective, the mothers are concerned and full of wisdom and the men can't think pass their hunger. The honest speak seemed closer to a resolution than the unsighted delusion of today. 17-Nov-2019
Forbidden Planet (1956)
Space travel, pretty alphas, a lush otherworldly landscape and a progressive robot. A modern Eve (Anne Francis) coming into full sexual bloom to a cavalry of starved men is an intriguing aside. She meanders flirtatiously amongst them until the bull (Leslie Nielsen) that stokes her ire compels a passionate kiss. The effects contain enough creative thought and subtlety to survive its time, the direction goes beyond the page and the words resound with clarity.
(I'd gladly trade an Alexa for a Robby) 10-Nov-2019
It's a film out of time in a space that a generation didn't complain about. The first is man's ego and his perception of the ideal woman (she doesn't speak.) The second evokes the woman as she really is (she doesn't stop talking.) The last is a caper that ties the loose bits with a feminine swing in snappy grand style. Shirley is slinky cat to Caine's dastardly bat. 02-Nov-2019
God's Own Country (2017)
Inheriting a life that your parents couldn't conclude. It's responsibility versus ideology. The farm is an educational revelation and the boys are rough like the terrain. Like in real life, it's all that and a cup of tenderness. 08-Oct-2019
All Male All Nude (2017)
The men exhibit and enjoy physical nudity but they appear clammed up about matters of the soul. I was more interested in what they couldn't say than what they did. 22-Apr-2019
Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice (1969)
Daring to deconstruct the parameters we set in relationships and sex. The foursome glow exploring sexual hypocrisies and reciting the truth no one wants to hear. 24-Mar-2019
Before Night Falls (2000)
A writer depicting the beauty of life is impaired from enjoying it due to oppressive politics and human tragedy. Schnabel practices skittishly and misses cultural opportunities but punches the story forward. Except for Depp's drag, the cameos resist the film's realism. Javier is gay function, survivalist and poetically melodious. He sells it...and Martinez doesn't hurt. 09-Mar-2019
Hand That Rocks The Cradle, The (1992)
A two-sided coin that elaborates on the ramifications of "me too."DeMornay manifests vindictive bitchiness by thread, tone and lust. Sciorra deadlocks maternal credence and Moore is the flippant friend you can't trust but should. Girl fight to the the end is its bang. 29-Nov-2018
Mathilda May is other world perfection. The story is complete, the make-up impresses and the Brits exalt conspiracy authority. By end, the filmmakers are overcompensating and padding the screen with extras when all we want to see is daddy tackling the destructive seduction of the ideal woman he created. 23-Nov-2018
Ornithologist, The (2016)
I can admire nature and ogle the choice of men but the film required an explanation. 19-Nov-2018
