Grave Of The Vampire (1972)
Silliness about a resurrected vamp raping a mod chick that dies delivering his baby. The baby ages into a superhero hunk with little gift of gab and limited supernatural powers. The fair lady hired to scream, couldn't. Fast forward to the fight scene which has Thor mashing a tired Michael Morbius with no effects and generating loads of laughs. 24-Mar-2020
Killing Of A Sacred Dear, The (2017)
Doctor feels responsible for causing the death of a teenage boys' father. He befriends him and his mother and integrates him into his own. The boy is a psychotic Jesus whose God has been bested by a doctor playing at God. Colin Farrell adds beautiful whisper to his lilt, calming us, confusing us and surprising us. Barry Keoghan is a vengeful prince ravaging the establishment and scary as fuck. Alicia Silverstone sucks good hands. Raffey Cassidy and Sunny Sulgic supply the perfect endorsement for burdening yourself with care one minute and smacks, the other. Nic holds it tight for the first hour, being logical and abiding but by the last hour she's tongue lashing and bitch slapping her character to heaven. Yorgos Lanthimos kept it artistic, chillingly precise, musically gripped and the giant balls to give us an OMG ending. 18-Mar-2020
Dead Kids (Strange Behavior) - (1981)
Controlling kids for kills. Bursting with ideas that the master had no idea how to cohesively cobble together. The kills are interesting because they are clumsy like real life. Fiona Lewis' donut bun steals the whole thing. 18-Mar-2020
Love Witch, The (2016)
I did a double take when I realized the film wasn't set in the cheesy 60's gothic era. The women are dead ringers for the pristine beauty of that time and the daddies are porn succulence. The witch is a backwards feminist, desperate for love but her potions and sex stratagems only work precoital. Love turns men into quivering slobbering mush as the witch becomes vexed and resentful. The film is experimental, nonsensical and devoid of magic. 15-Mar-2020
Piece of shit about a Charlie's angel being possessed by a spiteful demon. The spiteful demon is a woman that accepts no bullshit from a man and punishes him for it. As she hurts no one but, I see no reason to destroy her. She's today's woman. When Bobbie Bresee's Playboy playmate regresses to her childhood trauma like Sally Field in "Sybil," it was brilliant hilarity. LaWanda Page was hilarious. A lot of the film is hilarious and ridiculous and preposterous. It's a piece of shit that entertains.
A cleanup might do it good. 13-Mar-2020
A con for the social sprinters, trifling and influencers. It takes forever to kill one and when they do its not enough. Solid acting keeps you tuned. 11-Mar-2020
I Kill Giants (2017)
She kills giants and she's not afraid of them but then proceeds to quiver and weep at the thought. Having little girls spew superhero corn is cringey and embarrassingly hilarious. The girl on girl was tender but the titular was a smoky abstract. I was a bit confused by the giants. Why kill something that hands such good life advice upon victory or is that the point? Are they fortune cookies? 09-Mar-2020
A vague bad trip made sillier by insignificant EFX. Even though his American accent was flawless, McGregor was clamping down so hard on his own that he lost his squishiness. Ryan Gosling hadn't found his squish yet... he was a serious actor. His blank stares were very blank. They gave little credence to Naomi Watts' character except to provide her great face at the end. 08-Mar-2020
It's a waste of a title. Young couple break-in to a wacko family home and tables get turned. If the key to the story is madness why not explain it understandably so we can ponder it. They borrowed it, splattered it and hoped for the best. All actors were on game but Skarsgard's talent magnet pulls you in. He's an intrepid bloke. 06-Mar-2020
Henry Gamble's Birthday Party (2015)
The chains religion affixes on its followers and the opposition it judges.
Wine is the devil's blood.. desire is for cretins... the sins fade if you invoke his word by chanting it ceaselessly and mechanically, irritating anyone who hears it... skimpy leads to lust which leads to sex and maybe some joy... gay sex is the worst of all, they punish you for that... The film juggles all of it honestly.
Where there is fire there is wood, laying underneath elevating the flames while they smolder to ash. The Leftists awaken enough to overturn an honored twink's christian birthday party.
Everyone gets heard, everyone gets fed up and some actually become what everyone else can't... themselves.
Best Friends (1982)
Independent woman reaches high anxiety whilst reluctantly marrying her partner of five years. She believes marriage kills love and he's too venerable to start over. After a quickie marriage they embark on an in-law and family tour which reflect the weirdly mechanical influences the villagers brandish.
As much as Goldie and Burt appeared incompatible, their individual magnetism blind us into believing. Ron Silver delivers enthusiastic squishiness to the funniest bits.
It's a good companion to "Marriage Story."
It focused mainly on the topic of marriage which wears out.
The dialogue is written so we can understand them but not them, each other.
It refuses to answer its question.
It's breezy to watch. 29-Feb-2020
Mother Nature has decided that women can no longer contribute to the evolution of mankind. It's an isolated island inhabited by creepy mamas and sad baby boys. Using sound effects in place of music generates desperate tension... the audacity to inflict torture on little boys is persistent... the idea of having children scares me but the idea of torturous birth is brutal... the setting is a boy's worst nightmare come true. The director keeps it focused, wide and captivating whilst gifting us an ender's reprieve. Cheers. 26-Feb-2020
Night Before, The (1988)
Typical boy loses prom date which allows us to spend the night with him... retracing his steps. The details include rape, white slavery and violence. It really doesn't matter though... you watch because Keanu Reeves made a most huggable teen and Lori Loughlin struck with killer looks and scary everything else. 24-Feb-2020
Airport '77 (1977)
What it reserves in thrills it expounds in detail and raw film work. The pros lathered the soap like it was Shakespeare, it was diverse and actors were allowed to sweat. A movie that sits better out of its time. 21-Feb-2020
Son, The (2019)
A husband thinks his wife's environmental overprotectiveness towards their son is the reason she's keeping the boy from him. Everyone is intense, suspicious and naturally creepy. You clench to the finish line waiting in exasperation to find out who's what. It satisfies and saddles a surprisingly happy ending that complements the horror. 17-Feb-2020
