Tom Petty used his final tour to show support for the transgender community

It came as a shock to many, as Petty had only recently finished his latest tour, a 40th Anniversary celebration with his band The Heartbreakers.

He had hinted that this may be his last circuit, saying “I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was thinking this might be the last big one,” but many believed it to be an empty threat.

Midway through the tour, however, Petty made news for what was seen as a show of support for transgender rights.

China’s hottest boy band has a secret

This is Acrush, the hottest new boy band in China — and they’re already making the ladies pine and swoon.

But they have one not particularly well-kept secret: They’re not actually boys at all.

Mariah Carey to blame for NYE disaster, insiders say

Carey’s camp has said the singer was “sabotaged” by the show for ratings. Dick Clark Productions fired back, calling the claims “defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.”

A source close to the production tells Page Six: “It was totally [Carey’s] screw-up .?.?. Her assistant came out for the sound check, not her.” Our insider added of Carey, “All her dancers were in step. Everybody else onstage heard the track. Even without [the earpiece] there were eight speakers onstage. It was not the sound people.”

Bjork virtual experience a big time commitment but worth it

For a music festival that aims to be something different, Day for Night hosting the U.S. debut of Björk Digital fits the mission. It is, however, a lot to ask of a music festival audience.

The entire virtual reality portion takes 80 minutes, and only groups of 25 are admitted at a time. For those who didn't get to register for an assigned time, of which there are many according to comments on the festival's social media accounts, the wait alone was restrictive. Katheryn Mitchell was in line by 2:30 p.m. At 7:30 p.m. she was still in line.

"We wanted to see Lower Dens at 5. We wanted to see Odesza, but that's kind of over," she said. "But we thought this was an experience we wouldn't be able to have in any other environment so it's worth it."

Why Sia is the envy of other pop stars

It could have been Sia Furler that sang to a packed Barclays Center on Tuesday night. But it could have just as easily been any 40-year-old Australian woman, obscured by a two-tone wig and an oversized bow. No one can be entirely sure, and that is the singer’s most astonishing achievement.

In the age of overexposure, most of Sia’s set (part of an ongoing tour in support of the album “This Is Acting”) featured her standing completely still at the back the stage, singing her bombastic pop songs while a supporting cast of performers acted out Ryan Heffington’s award-winning choreography with astounding precision. It was, essentially, a 70-minute interpretative dance, on arena-sized steroids.
