Kissing Booth, The (2018)

Violent dream pole invigorates virgin queen to the consternation of his brother and her bestie. It's an odd concoction of disbelief. A bad boy gets rehabilitated by purity, something the girl loses as soon as he smells her. The parents are of the Charlie Brown variety, they're there but you cant really understand them and they really can't be bothered. The bestie should have been gay because watching porn together and never kissing, is weird. There are two gays that pop-up but all they do is desire, deny and dance. I'm torn. We should have family fare that looks and tastes like bubblegum (with sugar) but I think the teens could use a little cement (for their foundation.) The ending played it safe for everyone but I applaud it because it was the only choice for the genre. 03-Dec-2019
House Arrest (2019)

Daddy mass resigns from societal distress by home imprisonment. It's a phenomenon worth exploring. The cast is pleasing and energetic, the sets are envy inducing but the comedy sways towards buffoonery. Daddy, Rambo and a cell phone trick clinch it. 01-Dec-2019
Heartthrob (2017)

Boy's mental health shatters when he discovers that his girl hiccups for all the boys. Keir Gilchrist was prepared to inhabit what Tony Perkins stamped but the writers were too intent on keeping it romantic. 29-Nov-2019
Animas (2018)

Friend of a friend starts experiencing supernatural episodes after her friend starts dating. For the majority of it, it follows typical horror terrain where nothing makes sense and the end is sure to be crappy but when they explain it, it all falls into place. 15-Nov-2019
A Summer Place (1959)

Avoiding becoming like our parents by following in their footsteps.
Mother misinformed (Constance Ford) desexualizes and humiliates her daughter because she's afraid of acquiescing to her grunt husband.
The fuckable grunt (Richard Egan) is frustrated but soft wanting to understand the new world while being forced to follow the old.
Graceful mom (Dorothy McGuire) is all want in her eyes of a time passed that has returned.
Drunk daddy (Arthur Kennedy) shovels the truth and blows it in their faces.
Troy Donahue is a dreamy Groot with a slight bigger vocabulary. Beauty is an expression onto itself.
Sandra Dee was the girl next door living in a cloud.
The film was panned but successful. It spoke frankly about sex, it epitomized its time and predestined ours, for each question raised there was a consequence, for every character, a reason. It was a time to question life... the old and the new.
(It deserves restoration.) 13-Nov-2019
Forbidden Planet (1956)

Space travel, pretty alphas, a lush otherworldly landscape and a progressive robot. A modern Eve (Anne Francis) coming into full sexual bloom to a cavalry of starved men is an intriguing aside. She meanders flirtatiously amongst them until the bull (Leslie Nielsen) that stokes her ire compels a passionate kiss. The effects contain enough creative thought and subtlety to survive its time, the direction goes beyond the page and the words resound with clarity.
(I'd gladly trade an Alexa for a Robby) 10-Nov-2019
Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)

It brings enough childhood comic book thrills to life to score. Jake is best when he's romancing and fighting Peter Parker. The Spidey suit fashion show vibrated, Holland owns it and Zendaya purrs it. 09-Nov-2019
Last Time I Saw Paris, The (1954)

War, Victory, Love and Life. Taylor struts gorgeously, as does Johnson's Herculean mane. Reed drops sweet for acid, Eva asserts manhunter and Moore is fine cuisine. The dialogue snaps, sexual freedom is commonplace and money kills God's Plan. The story lingers then quickens but star lush endures. 09-Nov-2019
Gambit (1966)

It's a film out of time in a space that a generation didn't complain about. The first is man's ego and his perception of the ideal woman (she doesn't speak.) The second evokes the woman as she really is (she doesn't stop talking.) The last is a caper that ties the loose bits with a feminine swing in snappy grand style. Shirley is slinky cat to Caine's dastardly bat. 02-Nov-2019
Giant Little Ones (2018)

A bj amongst boys causes consternation amongst girlfriends, family and friendships. It's Brokeback High with much consideration to honesty, acceptance and meditation. The teens keep it pretty, the elders transmit concern and the whole perches confusingly, like real life. 27-Oct-2019
Happy Death Day (2017)

It serves exactly what was on the menu: a teen romcom with knives. 24-Oct-2019
Alladin (2019)

All the boys needed testosterone shots on vocals. Guy Ritchie has the balls to make a dream come true but has no audacity to eject it with soul. Smith is an imposing genie that computes the gay with little gumption. Mr. Massoud (Aladdin) squishes triumphantly but with too much modern awareness. Naomi Scott (Jasmine) is the only with a voice but she is too liberated in her femininity to convey the struggles of Jasmine's past. Marwin Kenzari squishes delightfully as a person but lends no voice or stature to Jafar. Ritchie brings as many things to life as he killed. 22-Oct-2019
God's Own Country (2017)

Inheriting a life that your parents couldn't conclude. It's responsibility versus ideology. The farm is an educational revelation and the boys are rough like the terrain. Like in real life, it's all that and a cup of tenderness. 08-Oct-2019
A.M.I. (2019)

What if Alexa/Siri manipulated you into killing? A laugh shower, a mind splitter and amusement park bunk. When cell phones battle at end, it's ridiculous but it's also an idea. 06-Oct-2019
Boys In Trees (2016)

Rekindling a bromance. There were so many elements that could have thrust the story forward but the director was so intent on a surprise ending that his magic tricks don't total rationality. It's underhanded. The film relies heavily on Toby Wallace, whose star endowment keeps it flowing and wrings the only emotion at end. 23-Sep-2019
