Fire Island (2022)

It depicts our shortcomings in a sanitized environment. There is no outside telling us we suck so we are in a safe space. It paced itself naturally as not to impose. The cast was pleasantly supportive. The writing pondered some truth but resolved most of it with prom com magic. My Fire Island experience was rated XXX for rampant sex, sissy violence and "fuck you" friends. Family Shmamily. 05-Jun-2022
Made In Paris (1966)

Ann-Margret plays a girl who advances in the fashion industry because of hard work and drop dead gorgeousness. Father and son heads offer her the opportunity to become a Paris buyer when the original gets married. Father and son dispute her capabilities but acknowledge that beauty can surpass it. Louis Jordan is the Paris client with sexual arrangements to the previous buyer. There is little proof that Margret's character impresses at her job because she spends most of her time in Paris, drinking, partying, flirting, dancing, singing and clobbering boys who want to go further than a kiss. The most beautiful boy in the world, Chad Everett, the hottest tongue in France, Louis Jordan and the slub who accepts leftovers, Richard Crenna, are the men vying for Lady Margret's baby's breath. Ann's character is written with confused sensibilities. She riles the men up then 2x4s them later. She wants to live a fantasy without all that icky stuff, like sex. The ex-buyer getting married on short notice without telling her french lover/client gets no clarification. Edie Adams was unfortunately a short lived thing disrespected in the film's best storyline. Margret dolled up in fashion chic and hit the dance floor to Count Bassie and Mongo Santamaria like a sexual beast. Edits and choreography are a mess but Lady Margret's magnitude never lets up. The fashion is creative, the only laughs are violent, the idea that a girl becomes a woman if she gets married is primitive, when men exclaim that a girl is too young to fuck, they mean right now. 26-Apr-2022
Wonderland (2003)

The washed up male porn star with a huge dick cliche. His 14" cock was the ladder that should have saved the world. John Holmes was a porn king who sold his soul to the devil to continue to do drugs and have sex. John Holmes was either the mastermind that plotted the worst heist of his life or he was really dumb. Baby Kate Bosworth was a great young innocent in love with the aura of a "man." Lisa Kudrow was Beatrice Straight from Network. Underwritten, marvelous and powerful. She didn't flinch. Val Kilmer softens the big cock brute by being genuine. The reenactments of what occurred that fateful night raced to a satisfying conclusion. 04-Apr-2022
Cinderella (2021)

A talented cast is assembled to remake a classic remade too many times with bigger bluster. A downfall of blockbusters but not of little films. They can sneak in some truth without being punished. It's a parody that attempts to bring circumstances, thoughts and decisions to the shenanigans. Idina has grade A moments in song and in soul sharing. Billy brought his showmanship. The prince passed the "inferno" test with a flip and a voice. We waited for Minnie Driver to awake and when it happens, it is fitting. 007 hits his marks like a gunslinger. Cabello looks like a waitress from different eras in all of her guises but she can sing, act, charm and have fun. I had fun. It belongs to a future cult. 13-Feb-2022
Quiet Man, The (1952)

It's a cultural fairy tale that vibrates with status and wondrous oblivion. It's as pretty as the people breathing life into it. Culture doesn't deny itself, it contributes to the world. White people made me feel good. So what? 23-Jan-2022
Last Duel, The (2021)

Wife screams rape by hubby's bestie and rival. A trial and a duel decide their fate. The respect Ridley Scott expresses to the Middle Ages is not supported by Damon, Driver or Affleck. Ben is slimmed into a Prince Joffrey outfit with vocoder voice. Driver is a ready-made Rasputin with no magical powers. Damon lost his confidence and earnestness. The men don't belong. They are wise asses of modernity and circumstance. My X-ray vision caught smirks and college campus antics. Jodie Comer had the unfortunate task of reciprocating to two male lead green screens. Why show love for another when you can keep it to yourself. Ridly Scott has a fascination with effete kings. He should make a film all about them. 21-Jan-2022
Kathleen (1941)

Growing moppet with a grudge against her invasive nanny, the privileged world that enslaves her and the widowed daddy that ignores her, retaliates. 12 year old booby traps a private box with written warnings to pique the witch's interest. It explodes. Opening the box proves the nanny's invasion of privacy and that the witch wasn't what daddy thought she was. They hire a female psychiatrist to observe and treat the child's behavior and change it for the better. Moppet warms to common sense, things with daddy improve and moppet is whirling in family heaven. A fourth wheel, a money grubbing whore, tears the moppet's fairy tale walls down and rebuilds them with shields of female entitlement by trying to marry the rich old bastard. Bitchfest! 01-Jan-2022
Hondo (1953)

A wife/mother abandoned by hubby on Apache terrain staves off conflict when an Indian head takes a liking to her son. Apaches don't cry and revere baby boys as gifts. An ultimatum is issued. She must decide on an Indian for a husband or the Apaches will kidnap and raise her son. She keeps hoping her husband returns but the Apaches think he's dead. In struts John Wayne as a half Apache gunslinger that causes as much ruckus as he does saving. The best westerns contain wide landscapes, big hearts and simple writing. Society (Apaches) has the right to teach a boy to become a man for the benefit of his survival. Wayne is classic and Geraldine has the audacity to stand up for her son and protect their homestead. The kid is precious.
(If you want to be an asshole, you can count how many times the make-up runs off Apache legs or you can just enjoy a great story.) 26-Dec-2021

He's All That (201)

Pleasant nothingness of youth. 06-Oct-2021
Iron Mistress, The (1952)

The mistress is a knife. Men are constantly dueling, women are constantly conquering. The woman is torn between great sex or better fashion. The love obsession keeps fumbling her preference. Her main preference keeps dueling and killing to break her iron will. Iron doesn't break as easily as a blade bends. The black experience is joyous, the thoughts are candy flavored and the premise is pristine, repetitive and dull. 30-Sep-2021
My Cousin Rachel (1952)

Wealthy cousin moves away, gets married, sends cryptic letters to his younger cousin denouncing his wife before dying under questionable circumstances. Richard Burton plays a princely cousin hellbent on unmasking the greedy widow. Will love conquer vengeance? Olivia de Havilland was a saintly schemer with exquisite manners and sarcasm. Richard Burton pranced around like a Shakespearean athlete ripping his heart out to the strings of a magnificent woman that's impossible to avenge. The legends reenact what may have happened to his dead cousin and the irony is stupendous. 28-Sep-2021
Crowded Sky, The (1960)

It's a slow burn melodrama/disaster film. The legends emote, the daddies squish, twinx ponder and sluts can be redeemed if they stop kissing strange men and just marry them. Unlike the drama, the fifteen minutes of disaster are realistic and enlightening. 18-Sep-2021
Arrangement, The (1969)

Alpha daddy is acting bonkers. He's disillusioned with his wife, can't communicate with his daughter and is suicidal. He drives his car into a truck, gets a better face, detaches from life and gets a second chance to make the same mistakes. Faye Dunaway was beautifully confident as the office slut that could reduce a happily married daddy to mush and make him pay for it. Deborah Kerr exposed her soul and sexuality as a wife waiting for a man that's never going to be there. Kirk Douglas roars as a man obsessed with orgasms and baby smells. Elia Kazan opened up as a director and tried new things (good and bad). It is a detailed examination of how love, sex, beauty and insanity correlate. 13-Sep-2021
Lady Takes A Sailor, The (1949)

Promising businesswoman gets hit by a submarine while sailing. A sunshine spitting mariner reluctantly rescues her. She becomes privy to a super submarine but its captain remains a mystery. Once ashore she galvanizes the press and her business support with the story of her rescue. They think she is lying so they cancel her. Business funding is out, the camera footage proving her truth has been stolen and she's losing followers. Meanwhile, daddy spit sunshine's career is being threatened if the public believes her. It's oneupmanship of a tingly kind, romance of another with two star legends willing to do anything for a laugh and adoration. Eve Arden never hurts. Screwball comedy masters. 06-Sep-2021
