Handmaid's Tale, The (2017-)
The choice was maddening but the show was brilliant. 11-Jul-2018
I felt every contraction. 28-Jun-2018
It seems every time a suppressed group is emblazoned for freedom and equality the misinterpretation of spirituality return us to the beginning. Harrowing. 21-Jun-2018
Season 2, episode 7 allowed all the women performers to convey loveliness and unity in their art. 14-Jun-2018
Masterpiece of prick, torment and durability. The performers harmonize beautifully engaging us in the despicable and the championed. Moss resounds hardest because her character's zest for life is dictated intensively. 19-Jun-2017
This is what happens when you take the word of the "book" seriously without weighing the morality or the consequences of a privileged and archaic life. Elizabeth Moss heroically endures much so we can understand the sacrifices the underprivileged must make to survive in a new world that constantly spits in her face, without exploitation. It's scary because even though its fiction, it fits our current mentality like a glove. 16-Jun-2017
Sense8 (2015 -2018)
The sex was terrific.
It pulled from all of us and temporarily created a beautiful landscape and a force. They were our Mod Squad and art inspiration. Credit to the Wachowskis for creating the world we should be living in and for always arousing us with forward action sequences. In another time this might have been our anthem but America doesn't sing anymore. 01-Jul-2018
Its underappreciation may be due to time and how forward the message of power in inclusivity registers. Each 8 represents a struggling community that with aide, strife can be eased and joy enhanced.
The mythology may confuse but when all wicks (acting, action, sex, character development, koolness, heart and beauty) are turned on, its' fireworks. 13-Aug-2017
So fun, delirious and high. It's reaching for somewhere we want to go. Love the intertwining stories and characters. Thanks for the inclusion and the sizzling latino gay. It's a head-punch. 03-Nov-2015
Westworld (2016 -)
A robot can do some miraculous things but only our minds can take it to heaven. Poetic completion. 26-Jun-2018
Well played, well processed and well done. 18-Jun-2018
I spent the last hour surmising the weight and impossible cost of these robots because the show no longer computes. 08-Jun-2018
Thandie still stuns but logic has scattered. Our belief system cannot compute panoramic robot suffering. The closest tech we have to robotics is "Alexa" and she can barely get my name correctly or throw out the garbage. There is no human voice to empathize with. 01-Jun-2018
It all tied like a protrusive golden braid that ignited the players and extinguished all doubts. It was complete, it reinvented its mythology and made it relevant. Every revelation was rational and kick ass. The ladies kill. 15-Dec-2016
It's a Gurlworld and beautiful Thandie rules atop it. 23-Nov-2016
There is plenty for the eye to focus on but clarity is direly needed. I can't tell a robot from a human and I don't understand the waste of having robots enact when there are no humans in evidence. Also, we live in a Big Brother world where everything and everyone is followed and filmed yet they keep losing track of them though their technology is so advanced it can create humanistic automatons. I am only at the halfway point and Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton have my attention but it better add up to something. 14-Nov-2016
Americans, The (2013-2018)
Choices were devastatingly wrapped, the actors wrung every drop from a thoughtful script and the suspense kept us aghast and keenly aware that you don't have to be an American to remind us what it represents. Killed it. 31-May-2018
Paige's (Holly Taylor) turn consisted of ripping into mama. Awesome. 26-May-2018
Noah Emmerich's twitch is enjoyable character signification. Margo brought forth her no-nonsense presentiment and mommy and super daddy had a face-off. When Phillip carefully confronts Elizabeth with defiant truths, Keri Russell's face tells us what she's thinking and later confirms it by beautifully vocalizing it. Its genius. 18-May-2018
Mama wrecks and super daddy woke up to thrill us with a daughter life-lesson. 27-Apr-2018
This week's episode was razor cut. It registered after the series' most romantic statement and as a nightmare every parent of any child would like to avoid. Judgment reared it's acidity and Holly Taylor's Paige delivered it as the irritating and paradoxical teen we've learned to regard. 09-May-2017
The sticks remain properly placed. It's a welcome to see Margo Martindale back where she's allowed to play like we like and she deserves. 05-Apr-2017
Homeland stopped being this show as soon as it erased the family dynamic and started exploring its spy cred. Game of Thrones brags about how intellectual they are, The Americans just thinks. 03-Jun-2016
There are performers who act like they have sticks up their butts:
-- a high strung Spanish opera comes to mind (Bryan Cranston)
-- there are also artists so comfortable that they choose to sit on that stick and break it (Alison Wright, Margo Martindale)
-- but only one can unnerve us with reserved emotion by making us feel like "we" have a stick up our butts (Keri Russell)
-- while another conveys such panty creaminess and ferocity that he makes you feel like you have his stick up your ass and you better like it (Matthew Rhys)
-- and finally the faultless good hearts (Holly Taylor, Annet Mahendru, Noah Emmerich) born into the disorder that you have to scream back at your screen to take that stick out.
They can shove their art in my face anytime. 03-Jun-2016
How exciting and intelligent, understatement can be. 02-Jun-2016
Dick Van Dyke Show, The (2017) - in color
They were the modern standard and what should have become key to finding bliss by representing a rational, respectful and a well-informed married couple.
The color is candied and the tribute to Mary, yum. 24-Dec-2017
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
The message millions of Americans will deliver but none will process.
I'm not a magic splatterer but when art transcends it, you'll believe whatever you have to believe to see peace. 01-Dec-2017
Endearing wickedness, courtesy of top notch cast and writers. 21-Jul-2017
I'll have a drink with them. 21-Jul-2017
Friends (1994 - 2004)
Were they inclusive? No. Did they insult us? No.
They are tops because they sought the "A" in performance, geniality and durability. They made us laugh, cheer and according to many, gay. These are the friends you want to spend a lifetime with. 29-Jun-2017
Leftovers, The (2014 -)
The last season is difficult to watch. The coherence doesn't manifest itself until episode 6. It was heartbreak via a soulful cast.
The 7th spins your head around but I was laughing along with the writers, as it grew more preposterous. An ode to Alias was appreciated as was the dependable grand daddy squish, Theroux.
By the last, the mindfuck returned and we were left with a vague answer. I appreciate mystery and sometimes it is fun to ponder on our own except no clues were dumped. We didn't pose the question that made us watch so it was up to the writers to answer it. 10-Jun-2017
Jesus or a dog. Please be a dog. 19-Apr-2017
My kind of mindfuck. That music gets me. 21-Oct-2015
Transparent (2014 -)
They decided to give the family more screen time and I was dismayed. They are not the most accessible or enjoyable characters. It isn't until the last two episodes when all the characters are awakened to reap for the self-serving and capriciousness they breathe onto others. It also gave the actors moments to dispatch some brilliance esp. Judith Light and Kathryn Hahn. At end I really couldn't tell if Light was supposed to butcher a song I didn't immediately recognize or the song was wrong for her. They left us with plenty a mystery to anticipate. Bastards. 15-Jan-2017
Intertwining stories of errattic subjects done honestly and delicately. Kudos to Tambor for painting his trans character with such detail and respect. Ms. Solloway not only celebrates trans but lesbianism as well and they are well drawn. The siblings are to be abhorred because they are a reminder of what real children consist of. Their suffering is our compensation. 01-Oct-2005
Batman: The Animated Series (1992 - 1995)
#01. The one and only. 21-May-2016
Family, The (2016 - )
I wish ABC had kept this on their roster. It was getting better per episode and the intrigue was being solved, unlike their other revenge soap "Revenge" that withered due to it's lack of resolution and repetition. The finale was fun and brought everyone's talents forth. Joan Allen rose to the challenge, Allison Pill locked distrust and suspicion, and Liam James and Andrew McCarthy embodied the right amount of creepy mystery. I was even looking forward to the showdown set at the end. That's revenge. 18-May-2016
American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ (2016)
There is nothing to complain about here. Cuba doesn't look or sound like Simpson but he brought Bat Shit and yes, that was enough. We got the essence. David Schwimmer. Ross who? Kenneth Choi is an uncanny Ito. I'd hate to be Steven Pasquale as his bigot cop overshadowed the original bigot cop. Courtney B. Vance is slayer and animal. Sterling K. Brown was slight of hand. He was subtle, all heart, do gooder and had unique chemistry with Sarah. John Travolta's Shapiro is a beautiful beast. Everytime Travolta showed up I got goosebumps and giggles. It was his to steal on charisma and force. Daddy gets a free massage. Sarah Paulson's Marcia Clark is the queen. This really was all about Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. From humiliations, to sexism, through appearance shaming Paulson handles the character with such realism and care that we applauded her all the way. Her and Darden were the heart and the unsung heroes of this story. I don't really know how Darden and Clark felt about each other in real life but we really do hope that the sympathetic comaraderie they enjoyed was as presented.
Ryan, the writers and everyone else involved were intelligent and perfectionists. From the small details to the big impacts everything was "Handled With Care." The hard task is evident. I loved the finale's final thoughts and notes. This is a war that no one wins and it is a problem that needs everyone to resolve. I want to thank this mini for having the courage to explore that. 07-Apr-2016
Show Me a Hero (2015)
Politics I was not aware of but became interested in thanks to the well versed mini and the riveting Isaac. He gets genuine support from Molina, Keener and Ryder. 17-Dec-2015
Everybody Loves Raymond (1996-2005)
My family, if you could turn horror into comedy. 21-Jul-2017
