Bob Hearts Abishola (2019-) Woof

Nigerians have an upgraded version of conversion therapy. Exorcism! White distraction outs a relative as a lesbian and the community treats her as such. Should the messenger forfeit to a liar and apologize to her royalty for breaking the rules? The only thing stopping Matt Jones from becoming "daddy bait" isn't his speak, its his stupidity. Wink, wink. 21-Jan-2022

Is it improper for me to say that I wish someone else would love Abishola? 31-Mar-2020
The leads do not align, Bob's family grates and reverse hate is not progressive. 08-Nov-2019
Exploring multi-cultural attitudes to life problems is interesting. The black characters sparkle but their counterparts appear like unwanted houseguests. I'm sure good writing can fix that. (I liked it.) 25-Sep-2019

Wasteland, The (2021) Bites

I can't identify with a child that wakes his parents up so daddy can walk him to the latrine which is terrifyingly one block away. To piss. Why didn't he just piss in any corner of the house except where mama hangs laundry? It debates whether parents should compromise a boy's sensitivity by forcing him to become a man if the times deem it necessary. It's a future where woke people are forced to eat animals named Fluffy to survive. Suicidal grandpa daddy grants himself an early reprieve by getting a conscious in between bouts of "I don't give a shit! and "I want to die!" Daddy did not deserve a vacation. Mother madness is spooky with minimal slaps and torture towards children. She did good with killing animals, though. I didn't understand it. "The monster is made of trees, branches and bad lighting, maybe. You imagined the whole thing. You're just like us. Nuts." The child riled us up but the director couldn't give us a reason for any of it. 08-Jan-2022

tick, tick...BOOM! (2001) Whimper

Spider-man split open his asshole and we tasted it. The flavors were acidic and international. Like a caesar salad. Miranda covers an artist that succeeded without musicality because he's an artist that also succeeds without it. When did Spider-Man become Doc from "Back To The Future?" Andrew is its good thing, Robin de Jesus is a missed opportunity and Judith Light was too jewish. Vanessa Hudgens was the only artist that understood the piece of crap she was in and relaxed to our enjoyment. Bad music and immature storytelling equal forgotten art. 24-Dec-2021

Being The Ricardos (2021) WhimperEarly Exit

I exited before any more of my brain cells died. Not all geniuses are meant to portray geniuses. Nicole doesn't squeak enough or husk enough. She couldn't pick an accent from Lucy's bountiful history to make us believe she was Lucille Ball. Nicole is an Australian model failing as a moll bride. Lucy cracked and she bellowed. Ridiculousness was her class and experience was her wisdom. Nicole understood neither. Javier may be a fuckable specimen on his own accord but Desi wasn't that heavily accented or pitiable. Daddy needed some voodoo guidance. Aaron Sorkin placed the blame on Lucy. Fuck you! 22-Dec-2021

Queen Bees (2021) Whimper

A "These Old Broads" rip. Parents only know how to parent children. Grandma cannot prove that she is self-sufficient. Family and an accident coerce her into a senior home where conversion therapy for the dying (bffs) and medical staff await. It's a high school for broken bones. The writers applied one word descriptions to their legends. They are characterized as "extreme" (Burstyn), "cranky bitch" (Curtain), "sex kitten" (Ann-Margret), and "why the fuck are you here?" (Devine.) These women have accumulated enough historical fanfare to study and for writers to create great characters. Adding something personal would have reminded us why these ladies are great but instead they minimized them. Ellen Burstyn is a powerhouse, Jane Curtain is a Jane, bitch, Ann-Margret is a tiger and Tina Turner is a legacy. Oh. That wasn't Tina Turner? But she's Ann's friend. Oh. 21-Dec-2021

Old (2021) Whimper

At no point do we believe we are anywhere but in a M Knight nightmare. Occurrences collide so speedily that we don't have time to absorb them. M Knight believes that getting old is life's worst irony but he doesn't explore why. His fear limited him. Women return to screaming, black men are fast-food, disheveled beauty hurts, Bernal's legs are perfect and children fuck. I didn't understand it and didn't want to. It's a free blowjob in a foreign country with too many rules to find release. 14-Dec-2021

Single All The Way (2021) Arf

Gays take on family Christmas. Family doesn't want gay boy growing into an old maid. He has a bad picker. Family and friends decide to harass him into settling for the husband of their choice. He drags his bestie along to purport a lie that keeps his family nagging. Gays don't date. Unless bathrooms and dog walks count. The concept is repetitive, there is no conflict and it's an unsigned Christmas card. Michael Urie's hand gestures did not give me whiplash. Kathy Najimy needs a booster shot of tackiness. Jennifer Coolidge is a Christmas edible. Luke Macfarlane doesn't stop half smiling. Philemon Chambers couldn't muster friendship or romance. The film reminds without feeling. Chemistry is created when actors look at each as if they were tonguing down. Straight actors are good at that. They're hungry. If we want to continue to represent we need to stop enjoying the gift and savor the opportunity. All the snow was indoors. Why do woke folks always put the ethnic person to work? White boy goes on dates while black boy fixes the white family's plumbing. Get out! 03-Dec-2021

Bruised (2021) Whimper

The film describes a violent female as a failed mother/wife/child whose rage needs to be re-directed towards a profit. A killer that knows when to stop is a champion. They don't fight to save the world but themselves. Halle's fighter is homeless, negative and miserable. She keeps her feelings Eastwood. The boy's tongue was cut because he was either a lousy actor or the audience doesn't need to hear a black boy speak. Hispanics inherit black male stereotypes. Lesbian and mama were ready to sparkle but were given little illumination. It piles cliches without original thinking. I kept hoping she was a secretary with a hot lesbian boss. At least she would have been cute. 28-Nov-2021

American Horror Story: Red Tide (2021) Arf

S1E7. There's more? 08-Oct-2021
Lily Rabe wrecked, little girl spooked, Paulson shred and daddy twinkled. The script focused on family, cohesion and consequences. It scared me. I'm either the mother, the bag lady or both. 19-Sep-2021
DOUBLE FEATURE. Finn Witrock returns to form, being candy you want to wrap. Macauley Culkin belongs. I was perturbed by Sarah Paulson's bagging. I don't want to see her like that. Mistress Conroy and mentor Peters orchestrated sumptuous personas. Lilly Rabe's support status (hardly there) hindered her from punching the end. It's haunted house shenanigans in a very weird town. It feels and moves like a classic episode that only conjures a memory. 29-Aug-2021

Cruella (2021) Whimper

It rewrites history by replacing evil with benign cruelty and dog hugs. The Emmas were royal, the doggies were cute and the support was on call. Cruella's transformation never coalesces with the original character. She's a naughty bottom feeder with asshole friends, who snuggles with furries she later eats, is a career opportunist and an apocalyptic disaster waiting to happen but she's very sweet. (Glenn Close laugh!) 13-Sep-2021

What If...(2021-) Arf

The concept was fully established in the first episode where something we never expected, thrilled us. The second episode crashed by demoting Black Panther to Star-Lord status. Who the fuck wants to be Star-Lord? 29-Aug-2021

Woman In The Window (2021) Whimper

A cheap thriller receiving attention because an acting powerhouse is in it. Production invited stellar actors to deliver supporting one notes. Why bother? The writers and director are faulted for having no perceptive style and for thinking that hiding and boo is the only adult scare tactic. I would have fired them, handed the camera to Amy and told the actors to wing it. 21-May-2021

Elizabeth Harvest (2018) Whimper

Mad genius harvests wife until she gets it right. Ciaran Hinds does as he looks with no surprises. A better intro to Elizabeth's beginnings might have given the character depth because in the present, she's a dope. Carla Gugino wasted her brilliant cream and Matthew Beard creeped me out. The process of thinking is so wasteful. 14-May-2021

Mitchells vs The Machines, The (2021) Whimper

Teen lesbian leaving for school, has her life upended when Siri takes over the world and her dorky family is in charge of saving it. The adventures rely on coincidence, loud family squabbles, pet abuse, girl empowerment, gay robots and swirly pops to the brain. The voices don't humanize or endear themselves to us. Does Michael Rianda really think that he sounds like a cute little boy? It ends like every new animation whose heart beats like a girl. Go, girls! Do whatever the fuck you want! 06-May-2021
