Young Sheldon (2017-)
Did old Sheldon just announce that Call Me Kat was a lousy lay? 27-Feb-2021
Bringing the sweet back to comedy. I'll take it. 24-May-2019
The only way to siphon enjoyment is to abolish any thought that this Sheldon exemplifies Big Bang Sheldon. Mamas and sentimentality rule. 16-Jan-2018
Young Sheldon is only a shadow of the adult we know from Big Bang. Continuity frustrates because the child quips about things that the adult version deflected. The fun is limited because we know the child wont make it to maturity, is not invested in relationships and his family will barely exist in his present. 27-Sep-2017
How It Ends (2018)
It has no answers for what and no distraction for how. 16-Jul-2018
I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House (2016)
The patience you expend has nothing to do with filmmaking. The creeps stir but its Ruth Wilson's approach that haunts. Ruth keeps you tuned by means of a hushed voice, a self-destructive paranoia and an eye twinkle that acknowledges she is a willing hostage. The film fails because it should have kept up with her instead of just studying her. Ruth deserved more, as do we. 26-Sep-2017
It relied on the agreeableness of an adorable moppet. It was blind to color, height, age and privilege. The surprise was the weighty themes the show stockpiled onto the shoulder of its child character and the many hands slapping each other to ride on his success. There are moments when the family starts to mesh and affection becomes inherent but then hand slaps are instituted again and the family dynamic is fully separated by series end as Webster is turned into a bit player. 24-Jul-2017
Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life (2016)
I finally slogged through the abundance masquerading as benefaction with consternation. Every single character that graced or disgraced themselves in the original made the obvious cameo but not one personality was given the spotlight like Luke and all three Gilmore girls. The four were speaking their special language again as we got to revisit old haunts, old habits and familiar tunes. Though chemistry with Bledel remained unblemished Graham seemed disconnected from all others esp. Luke until it's final hour.
The Palladinos are to blame for overstuffing and elongating a mini with no purpose, resolution or drama. They had an opportunity to fix a wrong and established that the last year of the original Gilmore without them may have been warranted. When I watched the original finale I felt closure and I imagined they all continued to thrive instead the Palladinos opened it up again so we can observe that was quaint a time ago is now stagnant and sad because no one in this town wants to grow up. The Palladinos are stuck in a decade so the show suffers and wont move forward.
The four still found ways to dispatch amplitude even without the worded assist but these characters no longer have anything pertinent to say. 25-Nov-2016
Revenge (2011 - 2015)
I wasn't going to admit that I quit but I had to after the daddy debacle. There was fun to be had as Madeline Stowe bestowed on us the best of Morticia Addams and Alexis Carrington and no one can eyeroll or pokerface like Emily Van Camp. Unfortunately they thought the audience would be satisfied with never allowing maturity or cultivation to supersede what was laid out. Rationality walks out the door as soon as the extension is determined, flushing out all potency the story displayed before. 25-Sep-2016
I have questions. What happened to Damien's British accent? Why did you hire a Brit to do an American accent? Why does Damien go to church in the first episode and nothing happens then he throws up in the second? Why is he such a goody too shoes? If animals can detect his evil aura, did he never question why animals don't like him. He's traveled the world and he never came across an animal? Why the memory loss? Did the good side erase it? Why is he a photographer when he was destined for politics? The only way to repurpose the original great score was to carnival cruise line it? If you were going to ignore the sequels why didn't you start it as a teenager. It seems embarrassing to be going through puberty in your 30s and not as interesting. That's where it should have gone. Bradley, loved seeing your butt grow and teased on Merlin but I must admit Hershey is scarier than you. I can't. 18-Mar-2016
Doris Day Show, The (1968 - 1973)
I was more fond of it as I remembered it but not as I binge-watched. It has multiple personalities. Every season contained a new Doris with new friends and less family. I wished it had stayed in Seasons 1 or 2. There was something very pleasant and very Day about those seasons. The only thing that remains is the love for Doris and the only thing that sustains the binge. 23-Feb-2016
Here's Lucy (1968 - 1974)
The hardest working comedian on TV. The show changes and mixes so many times that its hard to pinpoint what its really about but you'll be damned if you don't admire Ball's resilience to perform and entertain us. The last season does settle into a format, mainly because Lucy is too tired but that's when her real talent shines - acting. You realize she didn't need to do somersaults for us to like her...we just did. 18-Jan-2016
Affair, The (2014 -)
Can you really base a whole theme on such an antiquated premise? I guess you can if it's from different points of view. Even the passion they are so heavily selling is fraudulent when the two leads don't know how to kiss each other. Everyone deserves better. Nap time. 21-Oct-2015
