Woman Of The Hour (2024)

The film is about bravery. A wallflower is just a ticking time bomb ready to exert herself when the time is right not to die and save others. It's the only instance, pent up anger is good. I admire that Kendrick spoke carefully for the victims. We do know more about the victims than we do about the killer. She stuck to her guns and limitations and created a really scary point of view. Good job. 18-Oct-2024
Kind Lady (1951)

A band of marauders suck the life out of a rich elderly woman with kindness to spare, isolated loneliness and owner of great art. Maurice Evans adds finality to his charmed villain, Angela Lansbury exemplified trash with two hearts and there were constants that gave it hope. The suspense gripped, the actors ascended and the story fascinated. Lady Barrymore excelled as a victim worth saving. 28-Jun-2024
Hitman (2024)

I always thought Glen Powell was cute and up for anything. The film is devoid of action and unlike an episode of Police Woman. Chemistry almost always works when a latina is involved. The passion seemed legitimate. Powell kept donning disguises like he was at a Shakespeare festival. I've never seen an actor so relaxed and ready. Ryan Reynolds does not always have to play Deadpool. He was having fun, it was infectious and he saved a fluff piece. 11-Jun-2024
Anatomy Of A Fall (2023)

Shots were placed strategically, playing P.I.M.P. on rotation filled the house with dread and the dog tore up his scenes. The lead played it one-sided which gave away the outcome. There was no Bette Davis conniver in her spirit. The film never strays from repeating the same story from different angles. It becomes exhausting to sit through. It needed to give the audience a break from the same subject. The clues fell so easily on the writer's lap that no surprises were forthcoming. They coerced the kid to pick a side but the director didn't. 22-Mar-2024
Night Must Fall (1937)

2 ladies living alone in an Oz cottage, on Disney land, invite a Tim Burton forest to bloom in their garden. They are served by two maids. The young maid is bungling, the old maid's had it and the matriarch wants her fired. Her problem is that her boyfriend wont marry her. He can't afford it. Matriarch agrees to talk to him but he charms the diaper out of her, instead. She offers him a job as an invalid's aide and he becomes an inhabitant and protector of bored ladies." Niece is the family loser that never got over her shyness enough, to attract a decent man or a job. She didn't know how to say, "no." Niece and philanderer were hate/love throughout but it didn't deter him from lighting her bulb. Proximity and attraction make sense (unless you're related.) Robert Montgomery was cornfed to pretend and prance like a force. May Whitty was a cranky matriarch that got her life gift a little too late. Power without youth creates hate. She was great. Rosalind Russell glowed as a dork and splintered glass when everything got darker. A murderer has hit the neighborhood and everyone is on high alert. The niece and the scoundrel play a great tennis match. She becomes a Karen that profiles him as a minority suspect and he's making sure that how he insults her, is within his rights. Did he or didn't he is not the question. Montgomery explains to Rosalind that the reason she needs him to be a criminal is because catching him is the last orgasm she's going to have. 02-Jan-2024
Big Sleep, The (1946)

As soon as Humphrey Bogart admitted that he was short he set the design for his character. He was also aware that his magnetism made up for any shortcomings and that he made women swoon. The women he encountered were self-sufficient and magnificent. Hair was at its loveliest, the fashion was fit, make-up was transformative and the ladies acted their asses off. It was a fast paced script that had actors spilling words over each other. The wit was non-stop and I laughed throughout. A private investigator is hired to find out whose blackmailing a man's daughter. Private investigates, flirts with the victim, flirts with her older sister, investigates, had sexy banter with many women, becomes overwhelmed by the mystery and never turns down the character's sadistic rizz. What they didn't do is not as important as what they did. Bogart was masterclass, Bacall made cigarettes sexy, the mystery intrigued and it's cool as fuck. 31-Dec-2023
Killer, The (2023)

"Trust no one." If that thought had been applied to the killer's private life, the film would've been a masterpiece. The panic attacks start as soon as the movie is over. 16-Nov-2023
Girl Next Door, The (2007)

A boy learns the word slut from his mother. An orphan teenager and her polio stricken sister are adopted by a single mom and her 7 children. All is good until it's tragically not. Based on fact, the story follows the boy next door with a crush on a teen dream that tears his world apart. The aunt's brood are the product of perversion and horror. The abuse was horrendous enough to make you pull your hair out. Some of the scenes are oxygen intolerant. The boys/men faired better than the girls/women. The boys interpreted it as a sport while the girls/women dreaded everything. Had the aunt had Piper Laurie chops I would have shat my pants. Safe and artless. Teen dream did not give us more than was written but she was effective. The film works because when a monster has the power to influence one person, the whole community will join in. How does a child get help with that kind of force? Heartbreaking. 17-Jul-2023
Babysitter, The (1969)

The wife, the babysitter, the lesbian daughter and her friends are fucking up daddy's high profile murder case. (Father is the assistant district attorney.) The parents are nearing retirement, they have a habit of filling 24 hour schedules so they don't have to look deeply at each other. His wife won't give him any because she has a 6 month old baby. It appears she didn't want another one. She hires a babysitter every night. The babysitter is a groovy chick that understands the dynamics of life. She also understood what men wanted from her. Daddy was a man whose lack of family appreciation drives him to free himself, return to earth and gain some respect. 07-Jul-2023
Another Man's Poison (1951)

Bette's 50s era was full of Lady Davis folklore and drag queen reboots. Lady Davis was forced to compete with herself. A worn out hunk has beef with her husband because he foiled a heist and he's being blamed. Bette is at the height of shifty. She parlays her caricature tics to mixed effects. She is over until somebody fucks with her animal. The feelings reeled a barracuda out of her. The camera decided that Bette's gift was mechanical and that the new way was better. They highlighted her flaws and disheveled her tidiness. The disclosures felt possibly true, Bette's messy art was always entertaining but it's a crappy movie. 10-Apr-2023
Sins Of The Mother (1991)

Can a mother take responsibility for her son's incapacity to succeed and his desire to violently hurt women like her? Elizabeth Montgomery plays a respected community buyer that doesn't like anyone sullying her corrupt family name. The son has mother issues. She's abrasive and always disruptive. She thinks that if he listened to her that he would become a responsible man. Her son doesn't know how to act like a man because his mother didn't bestow him many survival skills. Beauty, abeyance, avarice and good manners are the best of the few. She approves of nothing the man does or fucks except when she wants to make out with him. The man's anger issues come with. Elizabeth's mother doesn't click until the end when she stops practicing and becomes. She came in eager like Serena and exited like Elizabeth, the good bitch. Dale Midkiff's son was gifted looks to hide his nuts. He didn't have to fake much. There is good cast support. It jams a lot of information that hampered the complexity of the characters but law and order held. 18-Mar-2023
Snowtown Murders, The (2011)

A rough telling of a serial murderer who uses his hate for gays, family and all that get in his way to torture and kill. 4 brothers live with momma on a decrepit block, in a creaking house and a scary neighborhood. A neighbor babysits three of the boys and sexually molests them. I didn't quite understand how the mother found out. Did the LGBTQ tell her? She meets a man full of hatred who disguises it with charm. The teen boy is having boy problems. He keeps getting raped, losing friends and his mother is a follower who can't attract a proper man to follow. Teen bonds with new daddy unaware that he's an asshole. New daddy can't stop talking about killing pedos. The followers in his life concur. They should be allowed to kill them freely. Daddy gets into teen's head and secretly shares a sadistic side that the kid embraces because he is a victim of the people daddy wants to eviscerate. The Australian cast are so realistic that I couldn't understand them. TU cc. There are images that keep repeating in my brain because that caused it to silently scream whilst watching them. There's murder, rape, perversion, animal desecration, torture, hurt and realism. The film qualifies as Texas Chainsaw's cousin. 09-Mar-2023
This Woman Is Dangerous (1952)

History lends the movie charm. Joan's precision was in full bloom. A gangster's mole with looks of steel, going blind. A jealous gangster can't fathom his girlfriend going out of town to get her eyes fixed. A doctor that performs miracles and spits sunshine saves her. Romance ensues as he keeps spitting sunshine and performing miracles to encapsulate her. Boyfriend heads towards her destination as the clouds start rolling by. He's rampaging, killing everything that gets in his way, even the sun. It drools and pants more than it deserves but Joan is a centerpiece worth watching. She saved the day by using woman's most cherished accompaniment, her purse. She was so focused that she portrayed blind even when she could see. Why isn't she looking at the other actors? She keeps looking towards us. Who the fuck is she talking to? She dotes on doctor's adorable child like she meant it! The crime drama finds movement at the end but the melodrama sort of killed it. 28-Feb-2023
Pale Blue Eye, The (2022)

Christian Bale plays his detective with self-control and whispers. The man is unnervingly entertaining. The film takes you to a place you don't want to be but since you're there, why not try it? It hooks its audience immediately. Edgar Allan Poe becoming his deputy, figuring clues and outsmarting the other, was fun. I almost expected young Sherlock to show up with his dancing pastries. I thought Lady Gillian was one of those pastries. You couldn't get enough of her. The investigation is the whole of the film and the soul is its end. 12-Jan-2023
Where The Crawdads Sing (2022)

Entertainment has wrung art dry. The artists are burdened with inciting memories of great historical art and erasing them, lest the audience think they pilfered them to bring a manipulative story to the screen. You can tell the director was probably very cool headed because a household with that much violent disarray would include more horrific things. Marsh girl would have turned out a creature less human instead of a starving foreign exchange student. Daisy Edgar Jones flattens the character by not bringing star charm to a mimicking portrayal. See Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue. Even when they couldn't act, they glowed with excitement and saved a crappy movie. Her ascension to sophistication is questionable. Either her mother had a great wardrobe or girl was doing something besides chucking clams. Also, why didn't she just eat the clams? The owners of the grocery store were inspired by a very special episode of "Little House On The Prairie" featuring the blacks. A little wild girl living all alone in the swamp would attract a lot of perversion. She couldn't read but she picked up on romance real quick. She flew into her "first" kiss. How did she know? What kind of nice daddy was hers before he booked? Why was she surprised to experience Tate Walker's natural findings in the swamp? Wouldn't she have discovered it whilst being the swamp? The crime and the courtroom boredom that follows had me eye rolling. The film is a cheer for womanhood but not art. It's a facsimile. I wanted to feel something. I am a man, after all. The ending knocked it out of the park but so did Harris Dickinson, to no avail. 16-Nov-2022
