Queen Charlotte (2023)
The garden starts to grow as soon as we catch a glimpse of it. Characters bloom, the younglings master the post artists and the older generation is A-list. Storytelling is compact with cultural explanations and detailed mystery comprehension. When things unravel they make sense. Young Charlotte trained smartly. Young Agatha was sumptuously gifted. She gave great face. Princess Augusta wrecked as an anti-villain. Young George was a beautiful broken piece of perfection. When he didn't move he looked like a doll. Young Brimsley was the cutest thing. He did not look like his future self because one is a pocket and the other is not but he was so squeezable that I thought the blonde semi-God didn't deserve him. Queen Charlotte: half of her title is fact. Diction was created so Lady Danbury can splatter it with harmony. Beauteous, courteous fiction. 19-May-2023
White Lotus, The (2021)
I didn't know Coolidge had more acting tricks up her sleeve. The lady was hiding a cowgirl and the funniest stunt woman, ever. The jump was everything. Will Sharpe expressed himself beautifully and he showed some thigh. Aubrey Plaza remained steady and to the back. Fahey and James remained fake versions of themselves and didn't express anything besides animal instinct. It was shocking, on point and masterclass. 12-Dec-2022
My favorite Wednesday Addams, of all time, is Aubrey Plaza. She became a bitch when her mother, Morticia, started boiling everything and aunt Lester lost her hair. Theo James is a fuck kill. Coolidge is being treated like a goddess by the gays and I hope she lets them have it. Hale Lu Richardson is Florence Pugh's Eve. Will Sharpe has to explain himself or show more thigh. Fahey is a rain of artificial sunlight. Michael Imperioli and F. Murray Abraham play a perfect father and son team that identify but don't accept that one begat the other. They fear their beautiful youngling will inherit their sad fate. The bigger you lie, the better the marriage but by then, the soul is gone. Female sexual harassment in the workplace, men expressing the difficulty in containing themselves, the sexes exploiting that, intelligent words coming out of fine actors and a director that provides the vision he describes. 30-Nov-2022
Mike White delivers an itchy script full of descriptive characters and awkward situations. The luscious atmosphere is reduced by human mania and overcompensation. Jennifer Coolidge cracked my funny bone, tore my heart and was masterclass as a woman acquiring power by being weak. Murray Bartlett played an outrageous gay asshole with ridiculous tendencies. Jake Lacy was pure alpha as a newlywed lord ruling over his petty wife. Molly Shannon whipped up a venomous mother-in-law from hell. Steven Zahn and John Gries gripped man sensibilities. Connie Britton and Alexandra Daddario convinced me. Natasha Rothwell spilled her heart and Jolene Purdy split my stitches. The teens were beautifully vacant, troubled, witty and intoxicating, just like vacations. 19-Aug-2021
Stranger Things (2016 -)
If this were an enjoyable season I wouldn't have talked about their hair. The retro lab visit was every mythological idea the auteurs and their fan pages dreamed up during video chats. It met everywhere but the middle. Russian prison was an excuse to keep actors that can't stand each other apart. (The audience likes them together.) The prison chapter peaked when daddy shaved his hair. He won Best Hair. The extra stuff put me to sleep. Too much. 01-Jun-2022
S4E5. I was surprised how much I had forgotten and remembered. Old people don't have time to look back. There isn't much time. The hair is horrendous. A guaranteed 80's do is brushing it forwards, teasing it, spraying it and letting it go. Instant throwback art. El is a super dork with boy crushes, the token of leftwing communist bullying and delicate. She's a dehumanized weapon. Comicbook El would have found gifts of other strength to make her cope and conquer. Why would she become Carrie? Some of the characters were hard to bear. It zooms away from sense, piles for representation and exemplifies fandom exhaustion. The hair. Worst ever! 30-May-2022
PS: I spent most of the season wanting to comb everybody's messy hair. 08-Aug-2019
The magic dissipated in #3 but unity, bromance, and a pulverizing ending held it up. 06-Aug-2019
#2 gratified every sense with throb and tenderness. 29-Nov-2017
There can't be much to disconcert when with every dedication and homage you are dealt original cards with likeable imprinted players and a perplexing with soul reflexing game.
Wynona is unwavering in motherhood vs sanity as David Harbour is papa Bear strength. The kids are inherent, funny and affecting. Millie Bobbi Brown is tasked with conveyance of eye speak and she handles it beautifully.
Success is achieved through inspiration not impersonation. 29-Aug-2016
Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-1977)
S7E12. Ted is sexually harassed and Mary and Murray tease him into temptation. A man asks Murray out for a date. 24-Oct-2021
S7E7. The only way to deal with a gifted child is to beat the crap out of him. 17-Oct-2021
S7E6. Ted describes The Happy Homemaker as a pig in a trough on broadcast news. 15-Oct-2021
S7E4. How Mary, Lou and genius handle a "woke" feminist hired as a sportscaster even though she is unqualified and doesn't respect management. 15-Oct-2021
S5E21. Mary rocks stripper gear and a prostitute teaches Georgette how to call business clients "tricks". 11-Mar-2021
S5E7. The episode where Betty White outcunts Bea Arthur. 24-Jan-2021
S4E8. Grandmas get horny too. 24-Dec-2020
S4E5. Super silver daddy with big brother ass wears hooker pumps to work. Yum! 23-Dec-2020
S4E1. Before Betty White drowned us in honey she perfected an empowered slut known as "The Happy Homemaker." She is introduced during one of Mary's lousy parties in which Phyllis' husband takes her home and almost never returns. The affair is handled with aplomb. A well versed human rights campaigner versus an eager and empowered cunt. The ladies are fabulous, Mary has the best solution and Teddy/Aquaman was delicious. 20-Dec-2020
S3E17. Classic sex identification episode. It's Mary's first party, Georgette is on hand to steal it and Rhoda is dating Phyllis' brother whose meant for Mary. The adult banter is resplendent, the emotions are on cue and the acting is sublime. 05-Dec-2020
The better Mary's hair gets, the more brilliant the show. 26-Nov-2020
S1E22. The origin of twinks. 04-Nov-2020
Class Act. 21-Jul-2017
Nurse Ratched (2020-)
Finale. Daddy Murphy and co. told me to fuck off. The pieces of art they were building got torn down, the unexplainable released the story from reality and the artists arthritic attack did not allow them to finish with a master stroke. Bummer. 29-Sep-2020
S1E7. Judy Davis titillated, Paulson skyrocketed, the doctor (Jon Jon Briones) scratched, Charlie Carver was endearing and Amanda Plummer itched.
One more to go before I tell Daddy Ryan to fuck off. 28-Sep-2020
S1E6. Jennifer Salt excused the dik crammed in Finn's butt to let some of the air out. He performed a beautiful Hitchcock sex scene. Cynthia Nixon demanded respect and got it. Judy Davis giggled. Jon Jon's doctor is a character whose death we are looking forward to. Nurse Dolly needed to remain stupid and fan worshipping to make the crime saga pop. Vincent D'Onofrio Jacked Nurse Ratched with just one word. Paulson's close-up had me holding on to my chair whilst Daddy Ryan felt me up. You motherfucker. 26-Sep-2020
S1E5. Paulson continues to polish her art. Judy Davis steals it by being the most ratched. Cynthia Nixon exudes a mature woman's warmth and dangerous idolatry. Finn Witrock looks yummier but somebody fucked the "it" out of him. I hope its just bad direction. No offense directors. There are beautiful spaces, delightful scenes and a Hitchcock orchestration that makes us swoon but I still don't see what this Ratched has in common with the ultimate Ratched. (I never imagined ultimate Nurse Ratched being "cute" in her youth.) 24-Sep-2020
It's not really Nurse Ratched it's more like a dichotomy of the Atelier lesbian Playstation game series. Rorona, Sophie and Atelier Esha are some of my favorites. It was always the same character with a surgically unblemished witch. That's what I need to tell myself to accept the sumptuous surroundings and the opulent cast. It's been prettified, sensationalized and horrified. I was impressed by the first episode and confused by the second. Is Nurse Ratched supposed to smirk at the camera? Nurse Ratched is a horror not a horror film. Is women empowerment a threat? Do we report it? Sarah Paulson serves it elegantly, poisonous and charmed. Judy Davis flambeid, Finn Wittrock dislocated himself, the eye of Murphy distracts but it also expands and disintegration occurs. The Hitchcock tunes are seductive. Change her name and we might be cool. Nurse Karen? 21-Sep-2020
One Day at a Time (2017-)
I will always have affection for these people but I truly hope they find that thing this season lost. 04-May-2020
S4E3. E1 and E2 had me worried. It was loud and high strung in celebration of a second chance, feeling like a parody of itself. Episode 3 brought masturbation realness and hilarity, peak character delight and mama diva (Moreno) steal moments. The hardest I've laughed all year. 10-Apr-2020
All about relationships. Gracias. 03-Mar-2019
Motivating argument about the rules modern life coerces. Proficiently displayed, adoringly regarded and stamping the sitcom with the purpose TV forgot. 13-Feb-2019
Justina Machado is excellent and Rita Moreno embodies everything we miss about a Golden Girl. They've added superior daddy squish and the support is amiable reinforcement. Cheers. 01-Mar-2018
At first glance, you are inclined to think that this is an exploitation of a classic and respected series with token latino stereotypes. By the fourth episode you realize that it chose this community to depict because it needs updating the most and it feeds right into the original's claim. It's hard raising a latin family when the men are scarce and the women try to empower themselves at the cost of tradition. There are times you will be transported to all those arguments Lear presented between classic characters, fair to each but being persistent that the last word goes to the changing present. Justina Machado plays Penelope Alvarez with the same amount as distraught, parental overprotection and survivor's challenge that Bonnie Franklin's Ann Romano did. Rita Moreno's accent is old fashioned pastiche but she is a full character, beloved and is having a helluva time making us laugh. The kids aspire for realness instead of cute and Schneider is cute without the creep. 30-Jan-2017
A Christmas Carol (2019-)
The legend of Scrooge modernized for a realistic mind.
It could've done with some trimming but it still shined.
Guy Pearce dashes, preys and rips as Scrooge. He deduces everything and everyone but himself. His softness towards animals was clever and the "humbugs" were well-earned.
Vinette Robinson (Mary Cratchit) deserves kudos for supplying it with its heart and its threat.
Joe Alwyn had passionate battles with Scrooge that eclipsed the baby blues.
The modern is simple. Scrooge represents every blogger with a gripe that can no longer concede to ideology...the spirits are the influencers, the magic makers and the Gladys Kravitz.' "Bully that man until he burns to the ground or apologizes."
The clues unlock in gift boxes. The heart was put in all the right places. Surprising the viewer with a repetitive tradition is no easy task. Respect.
We all have a Scrooge that we are safe from whilst we live on the other side. It's getting harder to stay there. 22-Dec-2019
S5E18: Samantha and Endora rap. 10-Feb-2019
7 Tabithas, 5 Aunt Hagathas, 2 Gladys Kravitzes, 2 Louise Tates, 2 Darrins, 1 Endora, 1 Uncle Arthur, 1 Maurice, 1 Dr. Bombay and the one and only, Samantha. 21-Jul-2017
Dick Van Dyke Show, The (2017) - in color
Van Dyke made silliness a class act and proved a physically hilarious man. Mary reacts adroitly. The writers wrote with a maturity that should have stuck. Sublime. 16-Dec-2018
They were the modern standard and what should have become key to finding bliss by representing a rational, respectful and a well-informed married couple.
The color is candied and the tribute to Mary, yum. 24-Dec-2017
I Love Lucy Christmas Special (2017) in Color
Woman empowerment is obtained by walking forward while doing it "your" way. Lucy created a path... whether you walked behind her or beside her...we should have surpassed her by now. No one has.
The color is candy. 15-Dec-2018
Color only adds adornment to an American sweet as we celebrate more classic detail. 23-Dec-2017
Island Hunter (2017-)
I watch sporadically to soak up relaxing panorama. I recorded the Puerto Rico episode to bask in memories and cherish my culture. We eat sandy melts, empty the streets and our favorite spice is rosemary? It was nice to see a sumptuous mofongo, platanos and such but the primaries (rice, bean, pasteles, relleno de papa, alcapurrias, empanadas) were mute. The island is being terraformed for the elite and we are being erased like the food I just mentioned.
I didn't need to see Liesel Hlista food taste. She approached many of the meals with dread. I wish someone would've tickled her off camera so we could get an almost honest reaction. 23-Nov-2018
...because Tabitha (Erin Murphy) was an adorable moppet
...because Aunt Clara (Marion Lorne) was squishier than my dog
...because Dick York (Darrin) was such the professional that we never noticed the pain he was in 26-Jun-2018
...because Samantha stood for every unappreciated group that the child in me could figure out
...because it can't be sexist if its a "happy couple"
...because even when the fx failed them they never deferred from perfection... because for every three they missed they got one so perfectly right
...because Paul Lynde was a great gay uncle when they weren't allowed to socially exist
...because ever since this show capitalized on what magic should be we have been pretending that magic doesn't exist (except in realistic boring conjuring ways)
...because Gladys Kravitz (Alice Pearce) and the artist who created her epitomized the nosy neighbor until she became understood
...because Endora (Agnes Moorehead) is the lesbian Drag mother-in-law we deserve
...because Elizabeth Montgomery can kick Harry Potter's ass with just one twitch. 21-Jun-2018
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars (2012 -2018)
In a season where Ru gave the all-stars every opportunity to strut, they repaid the legend by teetering. Shangela's hilarious lip synch catapulted the show to greatness and the girls finally gave us some soul searching but the next group needs to singe to continue mama's legacy.
The ladies seem in dire need of art inspiration. SNL history has a roster of the most empowering females to celebrate and emulate. Just the thought of them and the characters they slayed should elicit a laugh. 10-Mar-2018
The battle was worth saluting. 24-Jun-2017
Snatch Game is allowing us to ponder. Do the girls not emulate our current divas because there is no access or because such legends are not calling out to them? That's not fun. Our divas need to cause more of a ruckus. 29-Apr-2017
My original review has been changed to reflect that in fun you can disrespect a group and commit error with one unfortunate word. 29-Mar-2017
Reunion. Thank you. 03-Nov-2016
I was a little dismayed how little spectacle and celebration was involved in crowning this year's All-Star. It seemed rushed and gagged of money. Couldn't a club donate their space to the great Ru-Paul and allow her ladies to shine in the atmosphere that bore them? The lift to either cause wouldn't hurt and it would delight us. 14-Oct-2016
Congratulations Ru, you are still Queen of your domain. I met you once as you towered on a float in a NY Pride Parade. My buddy and I followed your float to the tip end of Christoper Street before a turn to disembark and traffic halted and locked you in place. You blessed everyone with a most rousing lip synch and array of dance work. During the storm you created you acknowledged and waved and I welcomed the rain that created a rainbow for the rest of my pride fest. You defined a moment that was never topped. Class act.
The reason this show excels when other realities mimic is because the show and the pretense is in their drag. Drag is in the background of every gay man whether you care to acknowledge it or not. Every contour, shading and hardware is depicting the hardships and the joys our lifestyle can drop. They enact it in exaggeration and a softer guise so the hurt doesn't cut so deep and the joy is longstanding. After much schooling and thought, I respectfully acknowledge that they are more than an accessory, they shine brighter, work harder and fight butchier.
All-stars entertainment value is never in question because even when things are not progressing how we'd prefer you don't stop brandishing or humanizing yourselves.
I was gunning for Alyssa to win because of her insuppressible showmanship, vulnerable heartbreak and cuntilicious coating. Whoever wins the crown, Alyssa can be assured that she won something more palpable, our hearts.
If Ru wanted to create a gasm she'd bring back all her girls and eliminate them one by one along the time allotted as she would have seen fit. Just curious to know what her choices would have been. 07-Oct-2016
Outlander (2014 -)
It was a complicated season because the realization that as beautiful the sentiment or the romance is, Jamie and Claire united has no merit to those witness to it. There was a selfishness to their love and a discard of family.
Patience is rewarded as soon as the big bad is affirmed (a savory Nell Hudson) and the sea catapults them to Jamaica. Scenes of modern Claire's reaction to the uprise of slavery was horrific, compassionate and uniting. There was "Titanic" imperilment, ecstatic conjuring and renewed star watt coupling.
Just because it didn't end like we wanted doesn't mean we can't marvel at the vision craftily laid out. 05-Jan-2018
The show may have its blemishes but the whole is resplendent. There are frequent instances where Ronald D. Moore will ask the viewers to commence anew with contrasting situations and characters but he always relies on the one constant that upholds the story...romance. Caitrona Balfe as Claire Randall Fraser who compels Sam Heughan's Jamie Fraser from brute to man is the force of the show and the sentimentality. Balfe has a warming timbre and luxurious tilt. I want her to read me a story and in this situation she executes it persuasively. Heughan is virile, protective and heroic. His "Sassenach" phrase can inflame like his stature can overcome. Once we explore the cultivation of their coupling all exposition depends on the chemistry they have in bales to spare us.
This season the makers awarded us with what appeared to be the closing of a story and the prospect of letting us imagine the best end scenario for the doomed lovers. It was fearless, mature and gut wrenching. Unlike its brethren, Outlander's contentious moments were few and provoking but thanks to regardful writing we were allowed to heal along with the characters. The show validates Battlestar Galactica's proficiency as no fluke and Moore and his staff inspired.
Tobias Menzies as the nefarious Captain Randall is unnerving because the writers have the boldness to endow his character with the backstory of a damaged survivor whose actor civilizes him. You hate the character but respect the performer for defining the monster with the right amount of fine tuning.
Graham McTavish as Dougal Mackenzie and Jamie's uncle is bountiful Daddy Squish with some choice acting skills that impelled us to always question the character, his intentions and our investment. Dashing.
I don't know how the story can continue with the completion of the season finale but I'm tuning in and hoping that these creators can overcome the structure and deliver us noble artistry once again.
Barbra: The Music, The Mem'ries...The Magic (2017)
When legends disappoint it has the ability to obliterate the gifts the talent birthed. Barbra calculates that her audience may arise to such a conclusion as she struts the stage, strings along memories and fidgets classic standards.
Around fifteen minutes in... she anchors, concentrates and overwhelms us with the last breadth of a great stylist, the isms of a superstar and a flash of beautiful recollection. I miss her already. 29-Nov-2017
