NBA star Dwight Howard denies gay rumor

US professional basketball player Dwight Howard denied rumors he’s gay.

The proclamation comes about after a man named Masin Elije claimed the two had a sexual relationship. Eljie also alleged Dwight offered him ‘hush money’ when things ended.

‘I’m not gay,’ Howard told Kristine Leahy from FS1’s Fair Game. ‘There’s people who have different problems in life and they have to hide. They have to put on the mask every day, and it’s like, I don’t wanna wear no mask, I just wanna be.’

Teen girl allegedly knocked out after turning down stranger’s advances

A British teenager claims she was punched unconscious after telling a group of creepy strangers following her in the street, “I’m sorry, I’m not interested.”

Gabrielle Walsh, 18, said she was with a male friend in the early hours walking home from a club in Manchester when three men approached them.

“I’d taken my shoes off and this guy came over and said, ‘I like your feet’. I just said, ‘OK,’ and we tried to walk away,” she told the Manchester Evening News, showing off her horribly swollen left eye from this weekend’s alleged attack.

“They kept walking behind trying to talk to me. Eventually, I turned around and said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m not interested,’ ” she claimed.

Hate crime? NYPD investigates vandalized Megan Rapinoe posters

The New York Police Department (NYPD) assigned its hate crimes task force to investigate vandalized posters of Megan Rapinoe found in a Manhattan subway station.

Misogynistic and homophobic graffiti covered the posters of the US soccer star.

According to USA Today, people found and reported the vandalized posters on Monday (8 July). Only a day before, Rapinoe, as co-captain, helped lead the US Women’s National Soccer Team (USWNT) to their fourth World Cup title.

The posters featured Rapinoe in her kit and read: ‘Dream with us.’

NYPD detective Hubert Reyes said authorities quickly worked to clean and replace the ruined posters at the Bryant Park station.

Reyes added the NYPD hate crimes task force is currently investigating one suspect.

Another study shows homophobic language isn’t linked to rejection of gay athletes

Another new study from Monash University again demonstrates that athletes using gay slurs don’t mean to convey messages of homophobia to their teammates, and in fact believe their teams would be welcoming places for gay athletes.

The study focused on 146 semi-professional ice hockey players in Australia. The sample group included a good mix of players from North America, Europe and Australia.

One of the most illuminating parts of the study looked at why athletes use gay slurs. Some of the results:

55% because they want to make people laugh
46% think the language is normal, so no one thinks about it
6% want to insult or bully others who are gay
1% say they are homophobic

LGBTQ+ Athletes Star in Powerful New Nike Film for Pride Month

Nike returns with a short film featuring several larger-than-life LGBTQ+ athletes for its BeTrue campaign during Pride month.

The film is a call to encourage athletes who dare to compete, whether or not they are on a level playing field with the other athletes in their sport. Professional athletes like WNBA star Sue Bird probably know a thing or two about the ways women are treated on and off the court, versus their male counterparts.

“For female athletes in a league that’s trying to grow in the U.S., the ‘rules’ we’re following are geared toward men,” Bird of the Seattle Storm, told Out on Wednesday. “So that might be the WNBA versus the NBA, and some of the ways they view us, or the standards they want to have. Things have always been done a certain way, and it’s never been thoughtful for different groups of people, so how can you succeed in that world?”

30 LGBTQ athletes who showed “Stonewall Spirit”: Roy Simmons

n commemoration of Pride Month and the 50th year since the Stonewall Inn riots in New York, Outsports is profiling one out athlete daily who embodies the “Stonewall Spirit,” reflecting the courage of those who launched the modern LGBTQ rights movement.

Former NFL lineman Roy Simmons’ story speaks to the shifting attitudes toward LGBTQ inclusion in professional sports and the true power inclusion holds. Simmons became the second former NFL player ever to come out as gay during his 1992 appearance on the “Phil Donahue Show,” but he’s defined by much more than just that moment.

The New York Giants took Simmons in the eighth round of the 1979 draft. He quickly rose to starter status, starting all 16 games of the 1980 season, but ended up gone from the roster by 1982 for personal reasons.

Why do so many gay men feel lonely? A life coach gives the unfiltered truth

The gay men I work with range from their 20s to 50s. The guys in their 20s are often more attuned to coaching. They’re proactive about their growth and preempt problems by making informed choices. They can be savvy about the need for personal investment.

For older guys, certain issues come up regularly. They include learning to thrive as a gay man as they get older, finding meaningful work and creating authentic connections.
