The Democratic silence on antifa is dangerous

There is a disturbing silence from leaders of the Democratic Party over those gangs of black-masked leftist thugs shutting down free speech and beating people to the ground with clubs at Berkeley.

We've seen such leftist violence before, and we saw it again just the other day at a protest in Berkeley, when the city police backed off and the thugs who call themselves antifa swarmed peaceful protesters of the right.

It's all over the internet, young men of the hard left in black masks, black gloves, armed with clubs, hunting down prey who dare speak their minds.

What's striking about all this is the silence.

Coronavirus crime worries are making New Yorkers want guns

With thousands of cops out sick, cocky criminals on the loose, and people running out of money for food and rent because of COVID-19, the Rosario sisters of Staten Island want to arm themselves for what they fear could be a coming crime surge.

Baltimore turns to aerial surveillance as homicides continue

Starting Friday, the roughly 600,000 people living in Baltimore will be constantly recorded whenever they step out under the open sky.

Marvin L. Cheatham Sr., for one, knows he could be watched as he goes to a doctor’s appointment or visits friends. He’ll be spied upon in his back yard, and as he steps into his car, and when he drives around the city, his entire trip will be recorded, too.

All his movements will be captured, and he’s OK with this — even though police will have no search warrant, and the overwhelming majority of Baltimore’s citizens will have committed no crimes — because the city is so besieged by violence.

“I am so upset and angry about all these people that have died, I’m willing to give up some of my rights, as bad as that sounds, and I’m a staunch civil rights person,” said Cheatham, who led his local NAACP chapter in the 1990s. “I had 19 homicides two years ago in my neighborhood.”

Renters Are Being Forced From Their Homes Despite Eviction Moratoriums Meant to Protect Them

Millions of people in America are under shelter-in-place orders requiring them to stay home whenever possible, but a growing number don’t have that luxury. Their landlords are kicking them out for not paying the rent, despite moratoriums on evictions in more than 30 states and dozens of cities.

Some landlords change the locks when tenants are out. Others cut off power or utilities, or let themselves into tenants’ apartments and throw their stuff onto the street. Landlords also take the doors off the hinges if tenants won’t leave, says George Donnelly, an attorney at The Public Interest Law Center in Philadelphia. In most cases, experts say, the evictions are illegal, since landlords are required to go through the courts to evict tenants, and most courts are not currently processing eviction orders. In addition, sheriffs or marshals, not landlords, are supposed to enforce eviction orders, including supervising removal companies to carry away a tenant’s belongings if the renter refuses to leave.

Christians Were Fined $500 For Attending A Drive-In Church — The Trump Administration Is Supporting Them In Court

The Justice Department jumped into a federal lawsuit in Mississippi on Tuesday to support parishioners who had been fined $500 for attending a drive-in church service, demonstrating the Trump administration’s willingness to challenge what it sees as onerous local lockdown rules during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Baptist Temple Church in Greenville, Mississippi, had alleged in a complaint last week that local police overstepped their bounds by enforcing a ban on drive-in church services and trying to “bust up” the parking lot congregation. Worshippers were inside vehicles with their windows rolled up while listening to a broadcast of the sermon inside when eight police officers began issuing tickets, including to the pastor.

The Trump administration filed what’s called a statement of interest in the case, showing the government’s views about the general legal principles at play, contending parishioners retain certain constitutional rights to assemble and exercise free speech despite the pandemic.

Career thief released from jail over coronavirus fears breaks into shuttered subway newsstand: sources

A career subway thief who was released from jail over coronavirus concerns is back in cuffs, accused of breaking into a shuttered subway newsstand a few days later.

Darryl Naser, 25, got out of jail on Rikers Island on March 27 after he was ordered held on $25,000 bail for skipping a court date in a grand larceny case.

On April 1, police allege Naser and a buddy broke into a closed newsstand in the 34th St.-Herald Square subway station. He was arrested on a subway on Canal St. Monday night, police said.

Naser, who’s racked up two felony convictions and nine misdemeanor convictions, typically targets subway riders for theft, police sources said.

Vampire-obsessed teen murdered 90-year-old, ripped her heart out and drank her blood

A TEENAGE paperboy obsessed with vampires murdered a 90-year-old woman, ripped her heart out and drank her blood in the belief that he would become immortal, a new documentary reveals.

And Mathew Hardman would have gone on to prey on other elderly people had he not been caught for the murder of Mabel Leyshon, described by an officer as one of the most gruesome in British legal history. Mabel had been widowed for 40 years and had lived in her bungalow in Anglesey for 50 years when Hardman broke in as she watched TV on a 2001 December evening. Mabel, hard of hearing, 4ft 9in, and very thin, suffered 22 stab wounds as she tried to defend herself from Hardman, 17.

Assault charges against workers in wild nail salon brawl thrown out

A Brooklyn judge has tossed out assault charges against two nail salon workers arrested for bashing customers with broomsticks during a 2018 melee over a botched eyebrow wax job that was captured in a viral video.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice John Hecht said prosecutors did not have sufficient evidence to continue pursuing charges against Huiyue Zheng and Ni Len, who worked at the now-shuttered Happy Red Apple Nails.

The brawl between black customers and Asian workers at the East Flatbush salon fanned racial tensions in the area, leading to protests outside the business and attracting the attention of elected officials who condemned the workers.

Scott Tulman, Zheng’s lawyer, insisted that public backlash over the case was inflamed in part because the portion of the tape showing his client and Len striking Thomas with brooms was more widely circulated than the full video — in which Thomas is seen going ballistic on the workers.

Jehovah's Witnesses reportedly under investigation by Pennsylvania attorney general

The Pennsylvania attorney general's office reportedly is investigating whether the Jehovah's Witnesses repeatedly failed to report child sexual abuse allegations to authorities in what is believed to be the first wide-scale examination by a U.S. law enforcement agency.

The attorney general's office told USA TODAY it "cannot confirm or deny the existence of investigations."

"Witnesses believe that they’re obeying God, that they’re putting God’s law ahead of man's law," he said. "And the reality is that they’re harming people."

Lawsuits filed across the country since the 1990s have accused the Jehovah's Witnesses and their legal corporations — including the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York Inc. — of failing to report child abuse.

California pardons gay civil rights leader in new initiative

A civil rights leader who was gay and a confidant of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was posthumously pardoned by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who also announced Wednesday what may be the nation's first process for forgiving those convicted under outdated laws punishing homosexual activity.

Bayard Rustin was a key organizer of the March on Washington in 1963 where King gave his seminal “I Have a Dream" speech. He also helped plan other nonviolent protests and boycotts to end racial discrimination.

Newsom pardoned Rustin for his arrest in 1953 when he was found having sex with two men in a parked car in Pasadena, where he was appearing as part of a lecture tour on anti-colonial struggles in West Africa.

Rustin served 50 days in Los Angeles County jail and had to register as a sex offender before returning to his home state of New York. He died in 1987.

Newsom noted that police and prosecutors nationwide at the time used charges like vagrancy, loitering and sodomy to punish lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people.

A baby kept on a vegan diet died. His parents have been arrested on a manslaughter charge.

The parents of an 18-month-old boy who died in September from malnourishment have been arrested by Florida police on charges of manslaughter and child neglect.

On Sept. 27, around 4 a.m., Sheila O'Leary nursed the child briefly and, she told authorities, became worried when he began breathing shallowly, the Florida Fort Myers News-Press reported. Rather than call for help, though, the O'Learys went to sleep.

Here's why a federal judge tossed Nick Sandmann's $250M defamation lawsuit against the Washington Post

A federal judge in Kentucky tossed Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann's massive defamation lawsuit against the Washington Post on Friday.

What did the judge say?

U.S. District Judge William Bertelsman said the Post was within its First Amendment rights to publish the subjective opinion of Native American Nathan Phillips, whose account of what happened on the Lincoln Monument fueled outrage against Sandmann and his classmates.

"The Court accepts Sandmann's statement that, when he was standing motionless in the confrontation with Philip's his intent was to calm the situation and not to impede or block anyone," Bertelsman said in a 36-page opinion.

"However, Phillips did not see it that way. He concluded that he was being 'blocked' and not allowed to 'retreat.' He passed these conclusions on to The Post. They may have been erroneous, but … they are opinion protected by the First Amendment. And The Post is not liable for publishing these opinions, for the reasons discussed in this Opinion," he added.

A Look At The Staggering Sexual Harassment Numbers In The Legal Profession

A new international survey reveals that sexual harassment in the legal profession is truly at epidemic proportions. The survey, with almost 7,000 respondents, was conducted by the International Bar Association and market research company Acritas and asked both lawyers and nonlawyers in the legal profession from 135 countries questions about sexual harassment and bullying within the industry. The results are disheartening, to say the least.

Over a third of women — 36.6 percent of women and 7.4 percent of men — say they’ve been victims of sexual harassment. When in comes to bullying nearly 1 in 2 women say they’ve been a target, compared with 1 in 3 men who say the same.

VIDEO: WHITE MARYLAND POLICE OFFICER USES N-WORD WHILE TRYING TO DISPERSE GATHERING OUTSIDE MCDONALD'S

Maryland police are investigating a video that was posted to social media this week showing a white officer using a racial slur while addressing a group of black men.

The incident took place yesterday outside a McDonald’s on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring shortly after 10:30 a.m. One of the men who recorded footage, Barry Tucker, told WRC-TV they had been waiting to be picked up for work when they were accused of trespassing.

Tucker told Fox 5 he was waiting with two of his brothers and a co-worker when officers from the Montgomery County Police Department approached them for questioning.

As the interaction continued, one white female officer was heard using the n-word at the men. As shown in bodycam footage, she said: “Hey, you want to get out of here fast, right? So if we have more people, y'all n****** been trying to something.” The officer then claimed she had been mimicking the men’s language, saying: “What I am doing is repeating your words.”
