Discrimination Based on Weight Doubles Health Risks

We all know that carrying extra pounds can be bad for your health. Now a URI professor has found that how society treats overweight people makes matters worse.

Maya Vadiveloo, assistant professor of nutrition and food sciences in the College of Health Sciences, and Josiemer Mattei, assistant professor of nutrition at Harvard University T.H. Chan School of Public Health, analyzed weight discrimination data from the long-term national study, Midlife Development in the United States.

The researchers focused on respondents who reported regularly experiencing discrimination because of their weight. The study asked whether they were treated discourteously, called names, or made to feel inferior. Those who experienced weight discrimination over a 10-year period had twice the risk of high allostatic load, the cumulative dysfunction of bodily systems from chronic stress, they found. That stress can lead to heart disease, diabetes, inflammation and other disorders, increasing risk of death.

"It is a pretty big effect," Vadiveloo, of North Kingstown, says of the findings. "Even if we accounted for health effects attributed to being overweight, these people still experience double the risk of allostatic load because of weight discrimination."

A Health Benefit of Roller Coasters

East Lansing, Michigan, becomes a ghost town during spring break. Families head south, often to the theme parks in Orlando. A week later, the Midwesterners return sunburned and bereft of disposable income, and, urological surgeon David Wartinger noticed, some also come home with fewer kidney stones.

Wartinger is a professor emeritus at Michigan State, where he has dealt for decades with the scourge of kidney stones, which affect around one in 10 people at some point in life. Most are small, and they pass through us without issue. But many linger in our kidneys and grow, sending hundreds of thousands of people to emergency rooms and costing around $3.8 billion every year in treatment and extraction. The pain of passing a larger stone is often compared to child birth.

For years in practice, Wartinger noticed anecdotal reports from patients who had passed small kidney stones during and immediately after visiting the Disney theme parks. It was a correlation he might not have noticed in another place, he told me: “This mass migration helped bring it to my attention.”

OMG: Man Suffers Health Condition That Made His Manhood Grow 10 Times Its Normal Size

In this shocking news, a 20-year-old man from Kisumu county in Kenya has been struck with a strange illness that has forced his manhood to grow more than 10 times its normal size.

According to Tuko.co.ke, the man identified as Sorence Owiti Opiyo, an orphan from Kibigori sub-location, developed the illness in 2007 at 10 years.

It was gathered that the illness started through a swelling similar to a ‘boil’ which made his reproductive organ keep growing in size. Even after receiving treatment to help reduce the size, his manhood continued to grow.

This state has the highest penis size expectations

It’s not the size of the boat that counts, it’s the — blah, blah. We all know the drill. And according to a new study, women aren’t B.S.ing about this: Size really doesn’t matter to most of us.

A new study of more than 2,000 people from DrEd.com, a U.K. website, found that only 11.2 percent of women said that penis size is “very important” to them. But, when pressed for details, participants shared their ideas of a best-case scenario peen.

Size really does matter for women — but not in the way you think

A new study has suggested that it’s actually the size and position of a woman’s vagina that affects her ability to orgasm.

Often it’s a man’s penis shape and size which is the hot topic of discussion when talking about how pleasurable sex is for a woman.

But instead, a new study has looked into the differences of a woman’s anatomy and how it affects their orgasming capability.
