Progressive Dems fight to defund the police as party moves on

Progressive Democrats are irked by talk from President Biden and national Democrats looking to move the party away from the anti-police rhetoric of 2020.

"Since the last election the moderates have been moving away from it," state Sen. Jabari Brisport told The Post. Brisport — a socialist — warned that embracing cops would bring consequences from his perennially restive comrades.

What would generate less police is no crime. Why don't we put a kibosh on crime? It's embarrassing for our culture. Is it so fucking hard to enforce to our community that committing crimes is a no no.? How many cops you lose is up to you. Geez. The math is very simple and it doesn't cost a dime. 17-Jul-2021

'I Found Love At 90 With A 31-Year-Old—After Finally Coming Out'

It had been a while since I'd been on a date so I was really anxious about how he would react to me. I'm old and everybody knows that, and I wondered what he would think when he saw my face.

At first I thought I would just say goodnight and go home, but I suggested we go out to my car and sit there to talk. Right after we got into the car John reached over and took my hand. I remember thinking, "Oh my!" and I did not pull my hand back.

When we finally said goodbye, John started towards his car, but then he came back and opened my car door: he'd forgotten his phone. He then asked if he should follow me home in his car, to spend more time together, and I couldn't turn him down. We talked and kissed and he finally left just as the sun was about to come up.

The Problem With the Rap Antihero

Many people can relate to feeling as “lost” as YoungBoy Never Broke Again recently admitted to being on live stream, or like they’re Dying to Live, as Kodak Black expressed on his critically acclaimed 2018 album. They’re two men seemingly bound to the institution of anti-Blackness, whose music grapples with the challenges of becoming more than what racism projected for them. They express the confusion of what it looks like to be a productive member of a society that resents you. In that manner alone, they are relatable figures to many. In a vacuum, their resilience, like that of any artist who defied the odds of systemic oppression, is admirable. But they didn’t get away from poverty without trauma that’s still hurting people. Both men have been accused of committing abuses against women, including Kodak’s open rape case.

We love antiheroes and complicated figures, and can acknowledge the ways in which the system preys on young Black men, but as long as we pretend that their upbringing completely stifles their agency, we allow them to avoid accountability for their actions. To be “complicated” is a patriarchal privilege. When Cardi B or Azealia Banks admit their past misdeeds or act out on social media, they aren’t contextualized; they’re policed.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson is doing everything to raise his child as gay

“We’re raising him gay until he decides he’s straight,” Ferguson said. “On the way back from the hospital, we played Britney Spears, because that was Justin’s one demand to listen to, that was his first exposure to music.”

“You’ll love him just the same if he is straight?” Ellen asked.

Sexual illiteracy is creating an HIV crisis in China

In 2018, the Commission said it estimated new HIV patients are growing at a rate of about 80,000 people per year, although that data does not distinguish between people who just contracted the virus or those who may have had it for awhile without knowing.

By comparison, the US reported just under 38,000 new cases in 2018. In 2019, the global number of people newly infected with HIV was 1.7 million people. Those numbers also came at the end of a consistent decline in the number of new global cases over the past decade.

The cases in China affected all demographics, including rapid growth rates in older and teenage populations.

Most of the new cases are spread through sex. The prevalence of sexually transmitted HIV is due to a host of factors, including the public’s general lack of sexual knowledge mixing with the growing proliferation of hook-up apps.

The great COVID getaway: Millions of Americans carry on with their holiday plans ahead of Thanksgiving despite CDC advice to stay home as cases top 12 MILLION and hospitalizations reach 82k

Millions of Americans are carrying on with their travel plans ahead of Thanksgiving weekend despite the CDC's urgent warnings to stay home as the number of daily cases and hospitalizations in the country continue to hit record highs.

Confirmed cases in the U.S. for the disease topped 12 million on Saturday as more than 193,000 new infections were recorded in the US on Friday. This broke the previous record for the largest single-day spike on Thursday - and over 82,000 patients are now hospitalized across the country.

Daily deaths also skyrocketed to 2,015, the highest number of fatalities per day since May during the initial peak of the virus, according to health data from Johns Hopkins University.

The alarming surge shows the nation is facing a second wave of the coronavirus this winter that could be more dangerous and widespread than the initial outbreak earlier this year.

'When you look at what's happening now, the rate of rise is dramatically different,' White House Coronavirus Task Force coordinator, Dr Deborah Birx told CNN. 'This is faster. It's broader. And what worries me, it could be longer.'

It has also sparked fears among health experts that Thanksgiving travel and holiday gatherings next week will only fuel the spread of the virus and prolong the length of the pandemic.

'Sugar daddy' Virginia lawyer, 45, faces sex-trafficking charge for 'coercing six teens to have sex with him in exchange for money, drugs and gifts like Tiffany bags and cameras'

A Virginia lawyer faces a sex-trafficking charge for coercing six teenage girls into sex by acting as a 'sugar daddy' who offered them money and expensive gifts like Tiffany's bags, according to a new report.

Matthew Erausquin, a 45-year-old founding partner of Consumer Litigation Associations and an Air Force veteran based in Northern Virginia, is accused of paying at least six girls to engage in sexual acts with him since 2017.

Keke Palmer Is Facing Major Backlash After Tweeting That Food Stamps Should "Only Work On Healthy Items"

EBT, also known as food stamps or SNAP, is a government-run program that gives individuals with low incomes a small budget every month to buy groceries. And the idea that the government should control what EBT recipients are allowed to buy is a talking point often made by conservatives who would like to see the program either reduced or cut entirely. (Trump, for example, has proposed getting rid of EBT and replacing it with preset boxes of food, in which the recipient has no choice in what they get.)

Suffice to say, Keke was ratioed pretty hard on Twitter for her suggestion — generating a lot more comments than likes.

Dad Welcomes Baby With His Daughter’s Ex-Boyfriend

A man has welcomed a baby girl with his daughter's ex-boyfriend, having revealed the happy news on Instagram.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 50, has been in the news previously for his relationship with Scott Hutchinson, 25, who just so happens to be the ex-boyfriend of his eldest daughter Saffron, 20.

Back in March, the couple announced they were expecting their first child together, saying they were using a surrogate who had fallen pregnant on their first attempt.

Parents Are Sharing The Things They Can't Believe They've Said To Their Toddlers, And I'm Weeeeak

Anyone who has — or had — a toddler knows that sometimes they cause you to have to say some very, very strange things.

1. "We don’t put stuff in our butt — it’s not a pocket." (It is for uncle.)

4. "Today I said, 'We do not shove chicken legs in our crotch.'" (Is the gardener extra friendly?)

6. "No, you can't take the lettuce to bed with you." "He was 4 at the time, and the head of lettuce was his new best friend." (No it wasn't. His face was planted in the grass so many times while some asshole molested him that he had to hold on to something. Lettuce feels like grass.)

Worst parents ever! Your children are being abused while you keep waiting for signs from experts that have never resolved anything useful in their entire lives.

How cable TV and sensationalized crime reporting led to 'cancel culture'

Parenting in America underwent a profound change in the 1980s. The meteoric rise of cable television and a relentless, crime-obsessed news cycle fueled the perception that violent criminals lurked around every corner. Missing, abducted and murdered children became the topics of breathless news coverage. Parents, consciously or not, embraced a mindset of “That could happen here, to my child.”

The culture of “safetyism,” which overestimates danger, fetishizes safety and allows for zero risk, came to define parenting in America. Parents with more realistic perceptions of danger were shamed into joining this cult of overprotection. Others were forced into conformity by absurd local laws and regulations.

As a result, kids stopped playing outside. Fewer and fewer “free range” children ventured out and scraped their knees exploring the world around them.

The sharp decline of free play also meant that kids stopped resolving conflicts by themselves, without a parent to sort things out for them.

As New York University professor Jonathan Haidt and co-author Greg Lukianoff argue in their groundbreaking book, “The Coddling of the American Mind,” the rise of overly protective parents led to a generation of extremely fragile young adults.

AOC blames NYC crime spike on parents shoplifting food for their hungry families

Crime spike? What crime spike?

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shrugged off New York City’s frightening rise in crime, suggesting that tough times are forcing parents into committing petty theft to feed their kids.
