THE "NOFAP" MOVEMENT MAY BE CAUSING MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS
If you've spent much time online, you've probably heard of the "NoFap" movement, which encourages (mostly) men to stop watching porn and masturbating in order to "reset" their sex drives.

Hollywood consumes half the oil from the Amazon rainforest
“The world has failed us,” Correa said in 2013 as he announced a lifting of the moratorium on oil drilling in Yasuní.
The move to drill hundreds of new wells in the national park requires the building of roads and other infrastructure that is likely to accelerate deforestation, environmentalists say. Construction of an initial road inside the park is now less than 1,300 feet from the “no-go” zone designed to protect the uncontacted tribes, according to the report.

Why Everyone Is So Rude Right Now
Of course, it’s the people-have-lost-their-everloving-minds incidents that make the news, but they are also a reflection of a deeper trend; Americans appear to have forgotten their manners, especially with those whose job it is to assist them. Lawyers are reporting ruder clients. Restaurants are reporting ruder clients. Flight attendants, for whom rude clients are no novelty, are reporting mayhem. (FAA fines for unruly behavior have already exceeded a million dollars this year.) So legion are the reports of discourtesy that some customer-facing businesses have been forced to play Miss Manners.

Seattle elementary school cancels its annual Pumpkin Parade because it 'marginalizes students of color
A Seattle elementary school has canceled its upcoming Halloween parade and will be banning students from dressing in costumes on October 31, claiming that the annual event ‘marginalizes’ students of color who administrators claim do not celebrate the holiday.

Young Americans Are Partying Hard and Spreading Covid-19 Quickly
Covid-19 is increasingly a disease of the young, with the message to stay home for the sake of older loved ones wearing off as the pandemic wears on.
The dropping age of the infected is becoming one of the most pressing problems for local officials, who continued Wednesday to set curfews and close places where the young gather. U.S. health experts say that they are more likely to be active and asymptomatic, providing a vast redoubt for the coronavirus that has killed almost 130,000 Americans.
In Arizona, half of all positive cases are people from the ages of 20 to 44, according to state data. The median age in Florida is 37, down from 65 in March. In Texas’s Hays County, people in their 20s make up 50% of the victims.

Indonesian official says sperm can impregnate women in pools
An Indonesian official has been ridiculed after she warned women that they could get pregnant from swimming in the same pool where men with “very strong” sperm ejaculate, according to reports.
Sitti Hikmawatty, a senior child protection official, made the unscientific claim in an interview last week with the local Tribunnews.com, according to Agence France-Presse.
“In a swimming pool, there’s a certain kind of sperm that is very strong,” Sitti told the news outlet during a video interview about teen pregnancies.
“If a person is aroused and ejaculates (in the pool) a pregnancy can happen even though there is no sexual penetration,” she said.

A baby kept on a vegan diet died. His parents have been arrested on a manslaughter charge.
The parents of an 18-month-old boy who died in September from malnourishment have been arrested by Florida police on charges of manslaughter and child neglect.
On Sept. 27, around 4 a.m., Sheila O'Leary nursed the child briefly and, she told authorities, became worried when he began breathing shallowly, the Florida Fort Myers News-Press reported. Rather than call for help, though, the O'Learys went to sleep.

ARE YOUR PALM TREES HARBORING ROOF RATS?
There’s something inherently relaxing and beautiful about watching palms sway in the warm breeze. Palm trees grow well in Louisiana’s warm, humid climate as well, making them a seemingly perfect addition to your landscape.
Of course, humans aren’t the only ones with an eye for palm trees – other creatures love them too, but not necessarily for their aesthetics.
Roof rats, also known as fruit rats, love palms as a place to live. It’s possible that your lovely palm trees are actually harboring roof rats, and might really be encouraging vermin to invade your home.
What Are Roof Rats?
Call them what you want, roof rats, fruit rats, black rats, it all boils down to the same thing. These are the same rats that spread bubonic plague and fleas. They’ve been with humans for eons, and throughout that time, they’ve been less than ideal houseguests. Rats spread far more diseases than the frightening Black Death, though. Others include murine typhus, salmonella, rat-bite fever and leptospirosis to name only a few.
Where Do They Live?
Roof rats actually prefer to live in trees, particularly in palm trees...

'Natural' Sugars Are Not Better for You Than Regular Sugar
Sugar has emerged as the latest scapegoat in our ongoing search for a dietary silver bullet, an outcropping of “clean eating” movements popularized by celebs and lifestyle Instagrammers and even news outlets. (Plenty of different nutrients have been targeted in the past—not that long ago, we were cutting fat out of everything.)
There’s nothing wrong with doing a little experimenting in the kitchen, sure. And most of those natural alternatives are pretty undetectable in a cookie, yes. But are any of the unrefined sugars that are touted for their health benefits—raw honey, maple syrup, brown rice syrup, date sugar, coconut sugar, agave, even molasses—really better for you than good old-fashioned granulated sugar?

Mom Culture Is a Toxic Lie
Her face was practically a Sephora ad and her hair, a cascade of smooth, shiny, strategically mussed waves. She was holding her newborn with glossy manicured nails in a slightly messy room—a burp cloth on the arm of the couch, a pacifier on the table, toys on the floor. The caption of the Instagram photo began, “Life isn’t always picture-perfect.” I wondered how she had the time to do her hair and makeup when I couldn’t remember the last time I showered. I was holding my own newborn, so I couldn’t throw my phone across the room out of sheer frustration. Instead, I cried. A lot.

Mental health services are causing trauma, rather than healing
The mental health system continues to inflict trauma, violence and harm because it regards those it sets out to help as the ‘problem’ to be fixed, not the ‘customer’ it serves.
That’s the assessment of leading Victorian mental health policy adviser Indigo Daya, a survivor of childhood trauma and a former compulsory patient of mental health services, after years of working in mental health consumer roles and in government.
Daya, who is Senior Consumer Advisor in the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist in Victoria and a long-time consumer and human rights advocate, was a keynote speaker at the recent Victorian Mental Illness Awareness Council (VMIAC) conference in Melbourne.
She said a big challenge for the consumer movement is that the system still sees the general public as its ‘customer’ and its aims to be about public safety and a sound economy, rather than the health and recovery of the people it treats. (See her slides below.)
