Creep (2014) Whimper

I don't do well with first-person because its film rolling on inanimate objects (people included) that are restricted. A fantastic one connects what we see with what we imagine. A disappointing one makes a straight beeline across a rudimentary device. The creep in question is just an exasperating real estate agent with constant jabber and little realization. The one behind the camera could have offset the other's nonsense with the snappy quips his screams intimated. The axe received the most character development. The "s" word comes to mind but I refuse to use it. 01-Apr-2020

Green Room (2015) Whimper

Band of vagabonds get punished by nazis for playing crappy rock or because they witnessed a crime. Sir Patrick Stewart was hired to class up the film and the "n" word. Anton Yelchin's heroism is a John Connor (Terminator) facsimile with substandard realization. The film lost me as soon as the punk picks up his phone to call the police for a kill that wasn't directed at him. What is the purpose of nazis if there is no racial conflict? (They don't need the props.) They were dim and disoriented and anything but scary. It stalls, it repeats, it celebrates and I believed very little of it. 28-Mar-2020

House of the Devil, The (2009) Arf

Quarantined and babysitting who knows what in strangers' creepy mansion is as nailbiting as it gets. Money can put any Spidey sense to bed but it can't help you. West's film strengths are character and suspense but the wrap up was easy, predictable and not scary. 22-Mar-2020

Knives Out (2019) Arf

Whodunnits don't need explanation. A fresh appeal for a chess match. Everything with Plummer spun magnificently but Craig jacked Spacey's southern flourish with little success. The support were ready but remained pawns in a game. They didn't flesh out. The unraveling was dry and predictable but the mystery qualified. 08-Mar-2020

Villains (2019) Whimper

It's a waste of a title. Young couple break-in to a wacko family home and tables get turned. If the key to the story is madness why not explain it understandably so we can ponder it. They borrowed it, splattered it and hoped for the best. All actors were on game but Skarsgard's talent magnet pulls you in. He's an intrepid bloke. 06-Mar-2020

Shahs of Sunset (2012-) Bites

I only watch sporadically because they are overly complicated and spoiled. I'm watching this season out of boredom. It is interesting to note that they've handled the "me too" moment with little awareness of what it means and a heaping amount of prejudice. The problem with "me too" is that if you're liked or needed they ("family) can make it go away. Just gang pounce on the other side without giving it one moment's consideration. 04-Mar-2020

Love Island (UK) (2015-) BitesUpgradeHowl

Men have invented a new derogatory language to upset women. What now? We can't ban every word... or can we? Nobody mentioned french toast, its the best (any foreigner with sweet tasting d...) 22-Feb-2020

I misinterpreted its existence. We are judging cave dwellers hooking up in a modern habitat. Skinny jeans, man pillows, wrangling, snogging, heart rips, musical accents and an errattic ear...that's entertainment. It's a braincation. 16-Feb-2020
Boring in any language. 25-Aug-2019

A blanched all-star siphon it's heart but the smoked monsters have art comic book flair. Blur the actors and fine-tune the monsters. 13-Feb-2020

Whirlwind (2007) Whimper

The men are pulled right out of the gay bible and are shot up close to hide background restrictions. The cast was diverse and capable. Friends and lovers are infiltrated and defrocked by a vindictive serial fucker. It should have been fun but the soup was bland. They spent a sizable amount of time talking about big dick and no time exposing it. 04-Feb-2020

Midnight Movie: The Killer Cut (2008) Whimper

In order for a viewer to digest mumbo jumbo we need to be privy to the rules. The film concocts it and we decide if it is within the realm of possibility so we can view the art piece with tolerance. No rules were established and the filmmaker refused to reserve a coherent explanation. It was remastered to look sharper but not sound brighter. 03-Feb-2020

Invaders From Mars (1986) Bites

Tobe and company add too much silliness to the story, the aliens look like ugly toys you win for free and the only alien needed was underutilized (Louise Fletcher.) She knows scary. 31-Dec-2019

Midnight Kiss (2019) Bites

Gays garnering the right to be slaughtered on film like they're straight brethren. Writing representation is limited to watching half a season of Drag Race, the eye candy is squirmy and the serial getup has no sex appeal or fright. 27-Dec-2019

V Wars (2019) Arf

The process of becoming a vampire and its side effects are so swift that we are not allotted the time necessary to empathize with them. A kickass slayer (Laura Vandervoort) and some popcorn fun, liven it. 15-Dec-2019
The dialogue seems cobbled together from overused scripts. The bromance and action scintillate in a broth that may contain no nutritional value. 09-Dec-2019
