Five shot at Atlanta Marquette Lounge on Labor Day morning after LGBT black pride event

Witnesses told local newspapers that they were at the club for a black gay Pride block party.

At least five people were injured, however, they all luckily sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unclear if the suspect has been caught yet.

Protesters demand shut down of Fullerton restaurant

Around 20 demonstrators showed up on August 7th and that number doubled on August 8th in front of JP23 Urban Kitchen on the corner of Commonwealth Ave and Harbor Blvd. “It is a dangerous place, and we will shut it down,” one demonstrator said. Samantha Velasquez says she was drugged at JP23 on August 1, and then later raped, and left in a parking structure near the Metro station. Velasquez decided to post her story on social media, and it went viral. Many women began sharing similar stories on Instagram, Nextdoor, and a variety of other social media. A group formed and the consensus of the newly formed group was that the restaurant was to blame for perpetuating a rape culture. Several people began organizing protests to demand the restaurant/bar shut down.

Almost half of gay and bi men have been sexually assaulted, troubling research finds

SurvivorsUK, a charity that supports men and non-binary people who have experienced sexual assault, asked 505 gay and bisexual men if they have ever experienced “something you would describe as a sexual assault”.

Some 45 per cent of respondents said they had been sexually assaulted, with those in the 18-34 age bracket most likely to have experienced sexual abuse.

Evangelical pastor claims that “LGBTQ actions” only prove the existence of God

An anti-LGBTQ pastor in California has taken a new approach to denounce gay people and homosexual “behavior”: People undertaking LGBTQ “actions” only “prove” that God exists, because God predicted as much would happen — but only in the “Last Days.”

On the other hand, the pastor also said that people that believe in the theory of evolution “have to be” against LGBTQ people because homosexuality would have died out during the evolution from species to species over the years.

Police in Brussels have raided a lockdown orgy in the basement of a gay bar – collaring 25 people, including several diplomats and a member of the European Parliament, according to reports.

The sex party in the Belgian capital took place Friday in the bar on Rue des Pierres, the Brussels Times reported, citing local media.

The European Union official, who has not been identified, allegedly tried to flee but was caught and questioned by authorities, according to La Dernière Heure.

One in three gay men feel unsafe at home during coronavirus

Almost a third of gay and bisexual men report feeling vulnerable at home during the new coronavirus pandemic, with Brazilians particularly concerned, a global survey found on Tuesday, highlighting its wider mental health impacts.

According to research conducted by the U.S.-based gay social network Hornet for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, 30% of almost 3,500 respondents, which included transgender men, said they felt physically or emotionally unsafe in their own homes.

"Think of how it feels to be 21 years old and living with a family that is unsupportive and constantly haranguing you about marrying a woman," said Alex Garner, senior health innovation strategist at Hornet.

Bars near one Florida university are giving women a secret way to alert bartenders if they feel unsafe on a date

College students who find themselves out on a date gone wrong at bars in southeastern Florida may be able to turn to the bartender for help.

Posters hanging in the restrooms of about a dozen bars and restaurants in Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Jupiter give instructions to women about alerting bartenders if they're in danger or uncomfortable.

First, order a drink called the "Owl Shot." Then, depending on what's happening, say one of the three coded phrases displayed on the posters. Based on the code, here's how the bartenders will respond:

'Neat': Bar staff will escort you to your car

'On the rocks': Bar staff will call a ride for you

'With lime': Bar staff will call the police

Bouncer at “LGBTQ-friendly” bar allegedly kills gay newlywed after “unruly behavior”

A 35-year-old gay newlywed named Christopher McKinney died in University Hospital early Sunday morning after getting into a fight with a bouncer at Nowhere, an LGBTQ-friendly bar in Louisville, Kentucky. Some bar patrons say that Nowhere has a troubling history of callously handling patrons.

The bouncer was escorting McKinney out of the bar for “unruly behavior.” On the way out, the two got into a fight and the bouncer knocked McKinney out. Police investigators say there’s no evidence of a hate crime and have withheld the bouncer’s identity for the time being. No charges have been filed.

How I started living for myself and not just for weekends on the gay scene

When you’re surrounded by people, you can still be isolated.

You might be in a busy bar, beer in hand, but it can feel like the loneliest place in the world.

When Damian and I started our podcast MenTalkHealth, we didn’t have a clear intent on what we wanted to do.

What came out of it was the older LGBTI people in Brighton came to us and said it was amazing. These were people that weren’t going out but they still wanted to listen to gay voices.

The majority of gay men I know are always busy, but they often don’t make any actual connections. Grindr and Scruff aren’t real. You might meet people going out to bars, with all its drinking and drugs, but you won’t find real connections there.

How does Harvey Weinstein happen? Visit a gay bar with me.

The institutional blindness that allowed Harvey Weinstein to harass, to bully, to allegedly assault his way to the top of the Hollywood elite has got me thinking about the ways otherwise decent human beings collude with behavior we would otherwise find deranged and intolerable.

I don’t mean the usual bouquet of human cognitive biases that overprotect us when we feel threatened. What comes to mind is how ferociously we try to invent excuses to protect our own kind. I think I am complicit. I wonder if you are, too.

Take a trip with me. Imagine being gay, or queer, at a club, or a bar, with the lights turned down, the fog machines blowing. It’s around midnight. People are drunk or getting there. The groping starts. Shirts come off. Hands trace down backs and starts cupping butt cheeks.

What’s It Like To Be An “Average Looking” Gay Man?

It’s not easy being an “average looking” gay man. Just ask Adam Dupuis.

In a new op-ed titled Being Average Looking in the Gay Community, Dupuis writes about the day to day struggles he faces as someone whose physical appearance falls somewhere between “OK” and “nothing special.”

“Being attractive seems to be pretty much a necessity to feel a sense of belonging in the gay community,” Dupuis writes. “Sure, you can go out with friends, travel, experience life, but it can be mentally and emotionally dangerous to travel with more attractive friends when you’ll most likely be the one going home alone as the others pick up a guy or two.”

Dupuis calls never being hit on “a little lonely as well as depressing.”

“Yes, you can exude confidence, socialize, and dance like no other,” he writes, “but that doesn’t seal the deal when looking for someone that is physically attracted to you.”

Not to mention, he adds, “it gets tiring to stand there and be the best self that you can with what you are working with.”

Orlando Shooting Was Revenge; Not Terrorism

When Omar Mateen shot up the Pulse LGBT nightclub in Orlando, killing 49 and injuring 53, many were quick to call the murders by the American born Muslim man an act of terrorism. However, new information has revealed a surprisingly different motive.

"Gay bars are therapy for people who can’t afford therapy; temples for people who lost their religion."

Gay bars are more than just licensed establishments where homosexuals pay to drink. Gay bars are therapy for people who can’t afford therapy; temples for people who lost their religion, or whose religion lost them; vacations for people who can’t go on vacation; homes for folk without families; sanctuaries against aggression. They take sound and fabric and flesh from the ordinary world, and under cover of darkness and the influence of alcohol or drugs, transform it all into something that scrapes up against utopia.
