straightness is dead. gen z killed it

Who would have thought that a contestant on Love Island would catalyse a worthy debate on queer discourse? It seemed nigh on impossible, and yet here we are dissecting the semantics of sexuality through that aggressively heterosexual lens: a much loved reality television show populated by perma-tanned muscly blokes and impossibly beautiful women.

Knife waving man screaming antigay & racist slurs in barbershop shot by Palm Springs police

A man who burst into a barbershop brandishing a knife and started yelling antigay and racist slurs was shot by police in Palm Springs, California. The unidentified man was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Officers originally were called to reports of a fight outside of a Bank of America, but learned that the deranged man had previously entered the nearby barbershop before patrons pushed him out and into the bank parking lot.

Straight Men Recall the First Time They Were Attracted to a Trans Woman

Tons of men are into trans girls, they just don't admit it.

This secrecy means that many men who are attracted to trans women end up living a lie. And in the worst cases, that lie boils over into anger and violence towards trans women for putting their masculinity on the line. But there are cis, straight men who are working to break this silence. I spoke to four of them—across generations—about how they grapple with the taboo around loving trans women.

Chris, 57, is a white businessman and a male escort on the side; Troy, 55, is a Black father, grandfather, and Financial Services professional; Joel, 37, is a Black Information Systems Analyst; and Jeremy, 20, is a Black college student from New York City.

The Right-Wing Is Weaponizing Gender Panic

The Trump Administration’s leaked gender memo, the recent transgender military ban, and the expansion of the global gag rule aren’t coincidences. They are part of a well-coordinated, funded global movement designed to control our communities by restricting the rights and bodily autonomy of women, LGBTQI communities, and people of color — eerily reminiscent of Reagan era oppressive tactics.

For LGBTQI communities, this kind of backlash is not new. At the height of the AIDS epidemic, the Reagan administration demonized our communities, as did right-wing forces around the world, spreading the false notion of the "gay plague" and blaming men who have sex with men for the transmission of the HIV virus. LGBT people were denied equal access to healthcare, faced intense violence, were stigmatized, stripped of basic rights, and often forced into the shadows. But we fought back.

Today, we know the far-right are sewing those same seeds of paranoia, creating gender panic with the use of an intentionally ambiguous organizing framework termed "gender ideology"by some and "anti-gender ideology" by others. Originating in the 1990s, gender ideology is a construct that depicts efforts to expand rights for women, LGBTQI people, and people of color, as radical, dangerous, and elitist, arguing that we are a threat to traditional family values.

Lesbian couple confesses to butchering their child ‘because he wanted to be a girl’

Warning: The crimes these women are accused of are horrific and this article contains graphic details.

A mother and her lesbian partner are accused of castrating and beheading a 9-year-old child “because he wanted to be a girl.” But what the two women did next makes the horrific killing even more shocking.

Mum Rosana Cândido, 27, and Kacyla Pessoa, 28, have confessed to Brazilian police that Cândido’s child, Rhuan, died after extreme abuse. Rhuan’s father told authorities that Cândido fled with the child five years ago.

Reportedly, Rhuan was a product of rape and his mother said she “felt hatred and no love” for the child.

After Rhuan said they wanted to be a girl, the women are accused of castrating the child and ripping off his penis.

Porn Habits of Average Teen Aren’t Dangerous, Says Study

Whether it was the thrill of finding your parents’ Playboy stash or locked-down cable TV channel, a lot of people can agree that porn was a major theme of approaching adulthood. Fortunately, a new study suggests that watching porn as a teen didn’t mess you up as much as you might have thought.

In fact, a new study published in The Journal of Sex Research suggests that the porn-watching habits of teenagers – both male and female – are not harmful to their eventual sexual health. Contrary to what so many parents and preachers would have one believe, this recent bit of research seems to suggest that it's perfectly fine for Tom, Dick, Anna, or Jane to indulge in some porn every once in a while.

HIV criminalization is happening in 72 countries

HIV criminalization continues: a global review has found that HIV-related arrests, investigations, prosecutions and convictions have ever occurred in at least 72 countries, with recent cases occurring in 49 countries, including 14 in which the law appeared to be applied for the first time.

The HIV Justice Network’s review concerns cases in which either the criminal or similar law is applied to people living with HIV based on HIV-positive status. Either via HIV-specific criminal statutes (29 countries), general criminal or similar laws (37 countries), or both (6 countries). Such laws typically criminalize non-disclosure of HIV status to a sexual partner, potential or perceived exposure to HIV, or transmission of HIV.

HIV criminalization ‘is a pervasive illustration of how state-sponsored stigma and discrimination works against a marginalized group of people with immutable characteristics,’ says HIV Justice Network.

Vatican Rejects Notion That Gender Identity Can Be Fluid

The Vatican on Monday flatly rejected what it cast as the notion that individuals can choose their gender, releasing its first extensive document on the issue as Western countries are increasingly wrestling with the social and legal implications of more fluid definitions of identity.

The document, issued by the Vatican department overseeing Catholic education, echoed past statements by Pope Francis. It argued that acceptance of flexible ideas of gender posed a threat to traditional families and ignored the natural differences between men and women.

It lamented “calls for public recognition of the right to choose one’s gender, and of a plurality of new types of unions, in direct contradiction of the model of marriage as being between one man and one woman, which is portrayed as a vestige of patriarchal societies.”

Boys can wear skirts, girls can wear pants for school uniforms in Mexico City

‘We are announcing something very simple but for us very transcendent. I think the times have passed in which girls have to wear a skirt and boys have to wear pants,’ Sheinbaum said.

‘Boys can wear skirts if they want and girls can wear trousers if they want.’

According to her comments, the new policy will come into effect immediately. It does away with the old policy stating ‘just as the skirt is the basic garment of a girl’s daily school uniform, so trousers are for boys’.

Sheinbaum, who is a member of the left-wing political Morena party, described the policy as ‘a condition of equality, of equity’.

Education Minister Esteban Moctezuma supported Sheinbaum’s decision. He also suggested other states in the North American country may soon follow suit.

Taron Egerton: ‘I Had a Period of Feeling I Might Be Gay’

“I felt Richard’s penis … on my leg,” he told Attitude. “We shot a scene where we are both naked on a bed, and we are rolling around. I don’t really know how much further we could have gone.”

“In the script, this is the scene of Elton losing his virginity, and we wanted to try to do that justice, and also at that point, their relationship hasn’t broken down yet,” Egerton explained. “They were falling in love, and it’s beautiful because it should be. We didn’t want to play like they were a couple who were eventually going to fall apart, we wanted to play it like two guys in their early twenties who are falling in love and who are incredibly sexually attracted to each other.”

In the same interview, Egerton also opened up about discovering his sexuality saying, “When I was 14 or 15, I had a period of thinking I might be gay and I spoke to my mother about it.”

The rise in Americans saying they are bisexual is driven by women

The number of Americans who identify as bisexual is on the rise. According to recently released data from the 2018 General Social Survey (GSS), a nationally representative survey of people in the US collected every two years, over 3% of US adults say they are bisexual (a sexual identity in which someone is attracted to people of their gender or other genders). This is up from just over 1% in 2008. (The GSS allowed individuals to self-classify as “heterosexual or straight,” “gay, lesbian, homosexual,” “bisexual,” or “don’t know.”)

An analysis of the GSS data by the sociologists D’Lane Compton and Tristan Bridges shows that the change has been almost entirely due to an increase in the number of bisexual women—the population of men who identify as bisexual has barely budged. Even more specifically, they find that the upswing in bisexuality among women has been concentrated among young women of color, specifically black women. Compton and Bridges note that the GSS data mirrors findings from a Gallup survey that found that “women, college-educated people, people of color, and those who are not religious” accounted for the steepest rise in LGB self-identification, in the period between 2012 and 2016.

Anti-gay GOP ex-congressman Aaron Schock photographed making out with another man at Coachella

The GOP ex-congressman whose sexuality was DC’s worst-kept secret has been spotted making out with another man at Coachella. Former Representative Aaron Schock who made a splash in the nation’s capital with his clothing choices, Instagram photos, and interior decorating choices, resigned after being accused of illegally using campaign funds to finance his over-the-top lifestyle.

Schock was a reliably anti-gay vote for Republicans, despite the parade of young men who visited his DC apartment, and his outing by journalist Itay Hod in 2014. Hod claimed he had walked in on his male roommate and Schock showering together.

But the former Congressman is back on social media after moving to West Hollywood where’s he’s been spotted doing some of the most stereotypical gay things possible – hanging out in gay bars, posing shirtless with gay fitness junkies, and enjoying quiet dinners with other men.

Anime Did Not Make My Son Gay

No, anime did not make my son gay. He’s bisexual, anyway. Anime didn’t “do” that to him either. I won’t link to certain places online that contain ludicrous opinions about how children can be “made” gay (or on the spectrum of LGBTQ) because of the friends they choose, the toys they play with, or the entertainment they enjoy. I won’t give those ignorant people more traffic. My son watched lots of shows, including anime. He is bisexual. My daughter watched lots of shows, including anime. She is straight. A study of n=2, but if you want to get into the latest science of why homosexuality is a natural expression of humanity, check out this article based on a TED talk by James O’Keefe. Back to anime.

When my children were young, I returned to college and befriended a group of geeks who introduced me to anime and manga. I distinctly remember seeing manga once in high school on Long Island in the ’90s: A Chinese exchange student brought in an oddly thick and small comic book. When I asked him about it, he explained that in Asia comics were books called “manga” and, even though cartoons were mostly for children in America, that wasn’t the case in Asia, where manga and “anime” were created for all age groups. I remember the cover looking a bit racy and he bashfully explained that this particular manga was definitely not for kids.

Adult son finds tons of gay x-rated videos on his dad’s computer–Now what?!

A 20-something man says he recently logged onto his dad’s personal computer and made a shocking discovery. Now, he’s turning to Reddit for help.

It all started when the man, who claims to be 26 and straight, used his father’s laptop to go to YouTube.

“As I typed in ‘you’ it tried to autofill me into the website Youporn with some homosexual title to the video,” the man writes. “At first I couldn’t believe what I was seeing given my father has been married to my mother for around 20 years.”

The man says his father is generally a “pretty negative and miserable person to be around,” but he’s never given any indication that he might be into dudes.
