Police searching for Brooklyn man who groped 7 women in 3 hours
BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Authorities are searching for a serial groper responsible for several incidents on Friday.
Police say the male suspect approached several women in a three-and-a-half-hour period between 8:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. in Bedford Stuyvesant.
All of the victims were approached while they were walking on the street, authorities say.

Woman Records Racists She’s Met On Omegle During the Pandemic
Sophie Wang went on Omegle to find new friends during the pandemic. Instead, she was met with racist verbal comments, asking her if she ate bats and was accused of making the coronavirus.
There has been a rise in racist acts and xenophobia towards Asians and Asian Americans during the pandemic, and Sophie is one of many who have been calling them out.
One Omegle user called her “Ling Ling.” Another slammed his hand on the table and said he hated her for making coronavirus when she wouldn’t show her chest. Another user said there would be “no more of her kind” and he demonstrated that anyone with slitted eyes would be disintegrated by nuclear substance from “American nuclear missiles” sent to all of Asia.

Celebrity quarantine posts are inflaming tensions between the haves and have-nots
In recent weeks, Anatasia Army, 33, has kept tabs on celebrity social media exploits from the safety of her Brooklyn apartment. She saw when billionaire David Geffen shared his hope that “everyone is staying safe” in an Instagram post uploaded from his $590 million superyacht. And when comedian Ellen DeGeneres compared quarantine to “being in jail.” Most recently, she watched House Speaker Nancy Pelosi inadvertently reveal in a TV segment that she owns two industrial refrigerators, each reportedly worth $12,000.
“As soon as I saw that number, I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I could live on that,’” Army, a babysitter, says. While public displays of wealth have often elicited backlash, the coronavirus pandemic has changed the context almost overnight. A luxury kitchen appliance, Army says, “takes on a new tenor” when lines for food banks stretch for half a mile and the nonprofit hunger relief organization Feeding America estimates that an additional 17.1 million Americans may soon be struggling to eat.
The internet has provided many of us with a much-needed tether to other people and places in the midst of the pandemic, but social media is also playing another role: It has become a catalyst for anger as it exposes the growing chasm between the haves and have-nots. For every video call with a loved one, there’s accumulating evidence of unfairness as people in quarantine reveal their starkly different isolation experiences.
We Are Living in a Failed State
The virus should have united Americans against a common threat. With different leadership, it might have. Instead, even as it spread from blue to red areas, attitudes broke down along familiar partisan lines. The virus also should have been a great leveler. You don’t have to be in the military or in debt to be a target—you just have to be human. But from the start, its effects have been skewed by the inequality that we’ve tolerated for so long. When tests for the virus were almost impossible to find, the wealthy and connected—the model and reality-TV host Heidi Klum, the entire roster of the Brooklyn Nets, the president’s conservative allies—were somehow able to get tested, despite many showing no symptoms. The smattering of individual results did nothing to protect public health. Meanwhile, ordinary people with fevers and chills had to wait in long and possibly infectious lines, only to be turned away because they weren’t actually suffocating. An internet joke proposed that the only way to find out whether you had the virus was to sneeze in a rich person’s face.
Italian mob seeks to profit from coronavirus crisis, prosecutors say
Italy’s mafia clans are taking advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to buy favour with poor families facing financial ruin, prosecutors and officials say, and are offering loans and food in what is seen as an age-old recruitment tactic.
After decades of campaigning to curb the influence of the mafia in its traditional strongholds of southern Italy, officials and charitable groups say the pandemic has created new opportunities for organised crime to regain people’s loyalties.
“We know that ‘families of friends’, all of them loan sharks, are making themselves available to give money to the people in difficulty,” said Amedeo Scaramella, using a euphemism by which clans of the Camorra criminal syndicate are known.
Scaramella, a lawyer by training, heads the San Giuseppe Moscato Foundation, a Catholic group in Naples that fights loan sharking, in part by guaranteeing bank loans to people normally considered credit risks.
He told Reuters the sharks start by offering loans at rates that compete with banks and later entrap borrowers by driving them up to 300%.

Irony: Hate Crimes Surge Against Asian Americans While They Are On The Front Lines Fighting COVID-19
There have been a lot of encouraging stories about peoples’ acts of generosity and kindness during the COVID-19 crisis. Unfortunately, human nature has its bad side too and the crisis has brought out some of our worst qualities including xenophobia, racism and, in some cases, violence.
Hate crimes against Asian Americans and Asian immigrants in the United States have been surging. It has ranged from verbal harassment to denial of services to physical attacks. There is no way to know, but President Trump’s insistence on calling COVID-19 the “China Virus” certainly doesn’t help. It is true that the Chinese government acted abysmally, for example, initially denying that the virus could be transmitted person to person. But China is hardly a democracy and the Chinese people were the victims rather than the perpetrators of this cover-up.
In fact, Asian Americans and Asian Immigrants to the U.S. deserve our thanks for their role in responding to the COVID-19 crisis. First of all, they are vastly over-represented among the front line medical workers who are treating those who have been infected. Seventeen percent of doctors, 9 percent of physician’s assistants and nearly 10 percent of nurses in the United States are of Asian descent.
States declare churches “essential” to exempt them from coronavirus prevention measures
As more states order people to stay home as much as possible and close down commerce to prevent the spread of coronavirus, some states are making sure there’s an exemption for church services.
Countries all over the world have been grappling with temporarily suspending church services, which bring hundreds, even thousands, of people together in small spaces, often touching many of the same objects.
But the desire to slow the spread of the disease is butting up against reticence to ask religious people to make sacrifices in a time of crisis.
In Florida, a stay-at-home order set to go in effect tomorrow will allow people to leave their homes to exercise, take care of pets, and attend “religious services conducted in churches, synagogues, and houses of worship.”

Group Behind NYC Central Park Tent Hospital Makes Workers Adhere to ‘Statement of Faith’ That Says Gays Will Burn in Hell
Samaritan’s Purse, the group funding and erecting the makeshift coronavirus tent hospital in New York City’s Central Park, makes all workers, including health care providers, “read and adhere” to a statement of faith that says gay people will burn in Hell. Samaritan’s Purse is run by “Christian” homophobe Franklin Graham.
Gothamist reports: “Graham, the son of prominent minister Billy Graham, has specifically sought to recruit Christian medical staff to the Central Park facility. According to the group’s website, all volunteers, including health care workers, should read and adhere to a statement of faith, in which marriage is defined as ‘exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female’ and the unrighteous are sentenced to ‘everlasting punishment in hell.'”

New York woman punched, robbed for wearing respirator mask at store, authorities say
HILTON, N.Y. – Four teens are accused of punching and robbing a woman at a Hilton, New York, business because she was wearing a respirator mask, authorities announced Tuesday.
Deputies responded to a Family Dollar on March 23 for the report of a robbery.
A woman said a group of people confronted her because she was "wearing a respirator mask" inside the store, officials with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said. "The victim was being harassed by the group of people who were stating she was infected with the coronavirus."
As she exited the store, the woman was punched in the face by multiple people and her keys and wallet were stolen, deputies said. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Christian group opposes coronavirus vaccine research because it used aborted fetal tissue
The Trump administration’s decision to ban scientific research that uses human fetal cells has not only had a major impact on a potential cure for HIV, now it’s hampering the search for a vaccine for COVID-19.
Evangelical Christian activists, who overwhelmingly support Donald Trump and oppose abortion, pushed the administration to ban the research. Now one group is attacking a potential vaccine for the novel coronavirus and claiming further research would be “morally” irresponsible.
“It is deplorable that anyone would want to exploit the remains of aborted babies for financial profit especially when so many people will refuse to use those products because of their deeply held religious, moral, and pro-life convictions?” Debi Vinnedge, Executive Director of Children of God for Life, asked.
In 2018, a scientist who was supposed to supply mice that have been modified with human fetal tissue for an HIV study emailed researchers that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) “has directed me to discontinue procuring fetal tissue.”
“This effectively stops all of our research to discover a cure for HIV,” he wrote.

Indiana School Board Member Says 'Cry Me a River' Over Trans Suicides
Activists in Evansville, Ind., caught a school board member on video appearing to dismiss their concerns about safety for LGBTQ kids.
This week, ten members of the Tri-State Alliance — a social service and educational organization serving LGBTQ communities in southeastern Illinois, southwestern Indiana, and western Kentucky — attended a board meeting of the Evansville-Vanderburgh County School Corporation to ask for greater protections for queer students.
After the meeting, the activists confronted school board members, according to posts on the group’s Facebook page.
The Tri-State Alliance says board member Ann Ennis claimed there was no support on the board for addressing suicide concerns among trans students.
On a video posted to the group’s Facebook page, Tri-State Alliance President Wally Paynter can be heard calling Ennis transphobic.
