Rising temperatures will help mosquitos infect a billion more people
Mosquitoes are unrelenting killers. In fact, they are among the most lethal animals in the world. When they carry dangerous viruses or other organisms, a bite can be unforgiving. They cause millions of deaths every year from such infectious diseases as malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, yellow fever, and at least a dozen more.
But here's the really bad news: climate change is expected to make them even deadlier. As the planet heats up, these insects will survive winter and proliferate, causing an estimated billion or more new infections by the end of the century, according to new research.

Woman In Critical Condition After Being Stung Over 200 Times by Africanized Bees
A housekeeper in California was the target of thousands of honey bees in an attack that left her hospitalized and in critical condition, the Orange County Fire Authority tells PEOPLE.
After a team of housekeepers arrived at a client’s home in Orange County, California on Monday morning, one of the cleaners — a woman identified as Maria and in her fifties — ventured back outside to retrieve a mop from her vehicle.
But as she walked toward the car, a swarm of 30,000 to 80,000 Africanized honey bees that were hidden inside of a gas meter outside of the home suddenly emerged and attacked.

Mayonnaise is disgusting, and science agrees
For much of the past year, I have fought a one-sided battle with a popular fast casual restaurant chain that we’ll call “Ready.” Unlike most restaurants, Ready doesn't make sandwiches, assemble salads, or otherwise perform acts of cookery upon customer request. Instead they sell nominally healthy, whole-ingredient-based pre-made soups, salads, and sandwiches. Because I’m lazy and impatient, I’m Ready’s perfect customer and not just because Ready has a location in Popular Sciences’ building. They also have another four locations (including one that sells beer) along my commute. So you'd think that Ready sandwiches would be a regular part of my nutritional rotation. But they aren't, because Ready’s sandwiches are disgusting.
The problem is that Ready saturates almost every sandwich with a miasma of mayonnaise. When Ready doesn't use mayonnaise, they use a yogurt dressing which is mayonnaise for people who are ashamed that they're eating mayonnaise. The shame is justified, the yogurt dressing is not. Sometimes Ready uses a less vile condiment, like a whole grain mustard—a condiment with dignity. But when they do, the powers that be cannot allow its presence to go unmolested. No, the mustard gets mixed in with mayonnaise in an abomination called mustard-mayo. Mixing Sriracha with diarrhea doesn’t improve the presence of the latter. Why would adding mustard to Satan's sauce improve the situation?

Are you on a diet? Beware, foods designed to help you lose weight could actually be making you FAT
If you're eating diet products in the hope of losing weight - stop what you're doing.
Foods marketed as helping you shed excess pounds may be damaging your quest to get beach body ready, a study has found.
In trials on rats - believed similar to humans, items high in sugar but low in fat - meant to imitate many popular diet foods - increased their body mass.
Sugar-laden products also induced a host of other problems, including liver damage and brain inflammation, researchers found.
The latter may affect someone's ability to know when they are full, causing them to eat more than they need, experts at the University of Georgia claim.

With people dying from eating cheese, the US raw-milk movement faces a serious setback
A recent bout of listeria infection potentially caused by cheese has reignited the fierce debate around raw milk.
On March 9, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced that two people had died in Vermont and Connecticut and four others had fallen ill after eating soft, raw-milk cheese from Vulto Creamery, an artisanal cheesemaker based in upstate New York. All six people had been infected with listeria. Vulto has recalled all of their raw-milk cheeses and—while the investigation into the outbreak is ongoing—the creamery is now being sued by the widow of one of the men who died.

Diet soda contains chemicals found in rust remover
Rust remover, anyone? Or maybe a dash of cement with your meal?
Swapping your “full-fat” Coke for a diet alternative might seem like the sensible, healthy thing to do. But think again.
Last week, experts at Imperial College, London claimed sugar-free drinks won’t help you lose weight or avoid Type-2 diabetes.
In fact, they could stimulate your appetite and make you gain weight.
And worse, some sugar-free soda has ingredients you wouldn’t usually dream of consuming — chemicals found in rust remover, steel cleaner, and cement, albeit in tiny quantities.
They also have ingredients that in high doses have been linked to DNA damage, hyperactivity, and bone fractures.

Eggo waffles recalled due to health risks
Seriously, let go that Eggo — it could make you sick. Kellogg has recalled around 10,000 cases of Eggo Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles in 25 states including New York that could be tainted with the bacteria listeria.
A nasty little bug that affects the gastrointestinal and nervous systems, listeria can cause “serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the Michigan food company noted in an online recall statement. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”
No other Eggo products are impacted by this recall and the company has received no reports of illness to date. The recall is a preventive measure.

Doing CrossFit two days in a row could get you sick: study
Do you even rest, bro?
Doing CrossFit-style workouts two days in a row could damage a person’s immune system, according to a new study.
“A rest day is important for recovery for subsequent training sessions,” said Dr. Ramires Tibana, lead author of the study from the Catholic University of Brasilia, which was recently published in the online journal Frontiers in Physiology.
After examining a group of experienced CrossFit participants perform workouts such as kettle bells, tire flipping and ring pull-ups, researchers found that two consecutive days of the popular high-intensity workouts triggered a strong metabolic response and reduced the levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines, proteins produced by white blood cells.
