Matrix Reloaded, The (2003)
Amped up but incomplete. 12-Jun-2019
Matrix, The (1999)
It maintains its relevance because it sounds like truth. It ripped the adventure sport apart, it stamped itself fresh repeatedly and we were overtook with joy and appreciation for the artistry of clean work. From kool to kickass is the process. 11-Jun-2019
The macho pose may seem off date but who cares when the master has proliferated a grand illusion and Zoe Saldana is gut wrenched. 15-Sep-2018
SciFi buffet, clenched suspense and frightful horror. Ridley's patience is as remarkable as the resonant silence. Even at perfection there are tech and editing flaws but because one of the most prodigious mythologies is being crafted, they are vaporous. Waiting for Sigourney to switch on badass, is woman empowerment legend. 28-Jul-2017
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
The wealth of enormity and magic is in every frame that Spielberg comprises, every note that Williams hits and that every actor emotes. Spielberg devises a fairy tale sci-fi that frightens with further fundamental examination. He liberated our minds to see fascination in every dark sky, escape into a magnanimous and boundless universe and to believe. The aliens themselves are a fail. Everything depends on that moment and all I saw was costumed babies blindly bumping into each other and a very non-specific leader sadly fragmented of clay. We forgive it because Spielberg has already tapped into the part of our brain that can concoct the better outcome and a place in our hearts that will trust his lead because he gifted enough. 31-Dec-2016
Donnie Darko (Director's Cut) (2001)
Every actor is onboard to respect the story and to weave themselves into it without nibbling at the star that created them. At the center, a young Jake Gyllenhaal provides the psychological burnout of himself, his world and the human mysteries of the universe. Kelley sets the movie to boil on medium and entrances us with a sprightly soundtrack, kool versed videos, wit snit and inquest. All fine points, little irritants and time manipulations are eerily resolved as the gilt-edged topper is revealed. Its a slow-burn singe. 17-Oct-2016
Star Wars (1977)
It's been a while since I last saw it and it bodes well for it that it can still geekify me. It's an accident of riches that only occurs once per lifetime. I saw the cleaned up and re-edited version and thought that even though it didn't work, as a whole, I do understand Lucas' need for enhancement. I had seen the original copy on cable and noticed how much the effects suffered in translation. He was trying to do the fans a favor. Not all of it works but I'd like to see some of this on Blu Ray. Hey, I like clean and shiny things too. Joy. 07-Mar-2016
