Latest Data Confirms Anti-Vaxxers Are Winning: Measles Is On the Rise
If you thought that measles episode of The Brady Bunch was hilarious and that measles is just such a cute old-timey virus, then you’ll be happy to hear: Measles is back! Thanks to the efforts of down-home anti-vaxxer folk, we’re now officially living in a world that has more cases of measles since 1992. Nostalgia for the ’90s is out of control! We should have resurrected Nirvana, not measles. RIght?
Would you give up having children to save the planet? Meet the couples who have
When people ask her if she has children, Münter, who is 44, has a prepared answer: “No, my husband and I are child-free by choice.” Saying child-free, she argues, doesn’t imply you are deprived, as the more standard “childless” might. And by letting them know it isn’t a sad topic to be avoided, she says, “it opens up the door for them to ask: ‘Oh, that’s interesting, why did you choose not to?’” Münter wants to move the awkward topic of overpopulation into the mainstream. “The more we talk about it, the more comfortable people will feel talking about it and then, maybe, things will change.”
For too long, she feels, the issue has been swept under the rug. “We can talk about emissions and climate change, but talking about population gets such an emotional reaction.”
The last thing she wants to do is make parents feel guilty, or to shut them out of the conversation. Procreation, after all, is natural. And if you have two children, you are only replacing their parents, rather than adding extras. But if you’re not yet a parent and can’t suppress your parental instincts, says Münter, “my ask is that you consider adopting one of the 153m orphan children that are already on the planet and need a home. Or, if you are dead set on having your own, my hope would be that you just have one and then if you want more, adopt.” Ultimately, she says, “your kids and your kid’s kids will be the ones who benefit from humans deciding to slow down our rate of growth. It will slow down climate change, ocean acidification, cutting down the wild places.”
Conservative 'Moms' group slams Burger King for using 'the d-word' in a commercial
Activist conservative group One Million Moms is taking aim at Burger King for using what it calls the "d-word" in a commercial promoting the non-meat Impossible Whopper.
In the ad, a group of people taste-test the plant-based patty that has been a hit for the fast-food company. With a mouthful of food, one man says...
It's Time to Stop Commenting on Your Coworker's Lunch
"Before you comment on someone’s food, ask yourself why you feel compelled to do so," says Caplan. "Much like commenting on someone’s appearance, food comments may be rooted in fat-phobia, or a diet mentality. Food is one part of the big picture that is health, and we should all have body autonomy in choosing what to eat based on our likes, resources, values, and preferences."
DOES BEING IN A RELATIONSHIP MEAN GOING TO EVERY SOCIAL EVENT ON YOUR S.O.’S CALENDAR?
Star-spangled bikinis aside, the Fourth of July isn’t the most sexy of all holidays (it certainly falls behind the romance-heavy celebrations like Valentine’s Day, New Years Eve, and Christmas). Perhaps part of my stance has to do with the fact that this year, my barbecue plate certainly won’t include a side dish of sex. That’s because I’m opting out of my boyfriend’s big July 4th bash this year—one of the recurring social events he’s been having with his friends for a decade. While at this point, his friends are my friends and my friends are his friends, and we all love each other and all that jazz…I just don’t know if I love them at an amount of 10-hours-at-a-faraway-beach-with-no-exit-plan. So, “learn to when to say no” is something I can successfully check off my to-do list.
I get that it appears as though I’m dead in the wrong in my choice to go this route. Because isn’t the golden rule of relationships that old proverb, “If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends”? The argument makes sense to me; in the early days of your relationship, getting “with” your new squeeze’s friends is major. You don’t need to be a walking Cool Girl Who Can Hang trope, but being at least cordial with the people your love loves is a fair expectation if you want to last. That much I can handle, because I love my partner (and also, phew, he happens to know some good people and sometimes my introverted self is surprised by how much fun we can have).

Trump’s New Rule Could Effectively Allow Discrimination Based on Race and Age
A new Trump administration proposal would change the civil rights rules dictating whether providers must care for patients who are transgender or have had an abortion. While news stories have mainly focused on how the proposal might affect LGBTQ rights and abortion rights, the sweeping proposal has implications for all Americans, because the Department of Health and Human Services seeks to change how far civil rights protections extend and how those protections are enforced.
Chick-fil-A Says Its Anti-LGBTQ+ Donations Are a “Higher Calling”
We all feel a higher calling sometimes. Maybe it’s to be a teacher. Maybe it’s to leave your six-figure job and be a full-time drag queen. Or maybe, if you’re the CEO of Chick-fil-A, it’s a calling to donate to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations.
In an interview with Business Insider, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and executive director of the Chick-fil-A Foundation Rodney Bullard said that the company felt a “higher calling” to donate its money to anti-LGBTQ+ organizations.
'Hundreds of bugs' in child's backpack leads to Florida mom's arrest
A Florida woman was arrested last week after her children's poor hygiene at school prompted a sheriff's office inquiry revealing living conditions unfit for children.
Jessica Stevenson, 33, of Milton, was arrested Friday and charged with child neglect without causing great bodily harm. Her bond was set at $12,500.
According to her arrest report, a staffer at Bagdad Elementary School reported on three siblings who attended the school to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
The employee said she’d noticed a second-grade student wearing the same clothing for an entire week in April and that the child’s body odor was hard to ignore, the report stated
The employee questioned the second-grader as to when their last bath had been, the report stated. The student replied they did not know.

Instagram Influencer Mom Leaves Kids and Husband in Coach While She Flies First Class
This Instagram influencer mom is not afraid to leave her family in the back of the plane while she flies first class.
Naomi Isted, a fashion blogger and TV presenter from Essex, U.K., who has 94,400 followers on Instagram, told INSIDER that she travels every six weeks on average for work, and if she’s booked in an economy seat, she’ll always “try to upgrade if there’s scope to do so.”
However, if her children are traveling with her, she will upgrade alone because she believes that, at ages 3 and 9 years old, they’re too young too appreciate the amenities of first class.
“I never personally experienced business or first until I was presenting a wine TV show in my 20s,” Isted, 40, told INSIDER, adding that a person shouldn’t fly first class until they are old enough to “appreciate and understand the value of money and hard work.”
Chick-fil-A Donated $1.8 Million to Anti-LGBTQ Groups in 2017
In the fall of 2012, it was announced that Chick-fil-A would stop donating to discriminatory, anti-LGBTQ organizations. This happened a few months after the company announced it would “leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage,” following uproar over CEO Dan Cathy’s comments about same-sex marriage. In the years since, the company has done more to expand its reach out of its traditional southeastern stronghold and become the third-fastest-growing chain in this country. But at least as of 2017, Chick-fil-A was still donating to some of these organizations.
Woman jailed for 11 years for performing FGM on her 3-year-old daughter
A judge has sentenced a 37-year-old Ugandan woman to 11 years in jail for performing female genital mutilation (FGM) on her three-year-old daughter, the UK's Press Association (PA) news agency reported.
The defendant was found guilty of the "barbaric" practice last month, becoming the first person to be convicted of the offense in the UK.
In sentencing at London's Old Bailey criminal court Friday, Judge Mrs Justice Whipple handed down an 11-year jail term and a further two years for possession of indecent images and extreme pornography.
"FGM has long been against the law and let's be clear FGM is a form of child abuse," PA reported the judge as saying.
Salvation Army slaps ‘gag order’ on employees so they don’t talk about LGBTQ issues
“If you run into a Salvation Army bell ringer this Christmas season, don’t strike up a conversation about President Trump or gay marriage,” warns FOX News host Todd Starnes is telling his audience.
Starnes says employees “have been told to stop posting their opinions about gay marriage, abortion or anything political on social media because it might reflect poorly on the organization.”
The far right pundit says he has leaked copies of internal memos from the home office to staffers instructing them to keep mum about controversial topics.
The religious charity has come under fire in the United States over the past decade for their atrocious record on LGBT rights. To attempt to stem the ongoing outrage over the group’s previous stances on LGBT issues, they started a public relations campaign to deny that they are anti-LGBT while never acknowledging their history.
TRUMP VOTER TURNS ON PRESIDENT AS HE VISITS CALIFORNIA AFTER BLAMING STATE FOR WILDFIRES: "HE CAN KISS MY RED ASS"
A man who voted for Donald Trump and was recently impacted by wildfires in California blasted the president’s response to the deadly crisis.
“My kids lost everything. I voted for him – and now? He can kiss my red ass,” Kirk Ellsworth from Northern California told The Guardian. “What he said was ridiculous. It hurts my heart. A lot of us voted for him and he [talks] down to us?”
As news of casualties and the devastation caused by a recent spate of forest fires broke last weekend, the president blamed California for the disaster while also threatening to cut federal payments to a state which had overwhelmingly rejected Trump and his party at the polls earlier this month.

5 male ad execs are considering a discrimination claim after their gay female boss said she would 'obliterate' her company's reputation as a haven for straight, white men
Five straight, white men have retained a lawyer to look at whether they can bring a discrimination claim against ad agency JWT, after a senior executive said in a meeting she wanted to "obliterate" JWT's reputation for being populated by white, British, privileged, straight men, The Times reports.
The men went to their HR department after hearing the remarks and lost their jobs days later, according to Campaign magazine and The Times.
Scathing Report Accuses the Pentagon of Developing an Agricultural Bioweapon
A new technology in which insects are used to genetically modify crops could be converted into a dangerous, and possibly illegal, bioweapon, alleges a Science Policy Forum report released today. Naturally, the organization leading the research says it’s doing nothing of the sort.
The report is a response to a ongoing research program funded by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Dubbed “Insect Allies,” the idea is to create more resilient crops to help farmers deal with climate change, drought, frost, floods, salinity, and disease. But instead of modifying seeds in a lab, farmers would send fleets of insects into their crops, where the genetically modified bugs would do their work, “infecting” the plants with a special virus that passes along the new resilience genes.
