The Supreme Court will hear 2 major cases about when religious schools can ignore civil rights laws
The Supreme Court announced on Wednesday that it would hear a pair of cases concerning the “ministerial exemption” to employment discrimination laws. Broadly speaking, the “ministerial exemption” provides that religious “ministers” are not protected by civil rights laws in their workplace — so a church could, for example, fire its preacher because the preacher is black.

Texas Gov. Celebrates Signing Antigay Legislation With Chick-fil-A
Last month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed what was dubbed the essentially anti-LGBTQ "Save Chick-fil-A" bill into law. If it weren’t enough that Abbott signed the bill over a month ago, late last week he thumbed his nose at LGBTQ people even more and participated in a TV ceremony celebrating the bill’s signing while he and his team were surrounded by Chick-fil-A food and beverages. He then tweeted the moment out to his supporters.
“No business should be discriminated against simply because its owners donate to a church, the Salvation Army, or other religious organization,” Abbott said.
“No business should lose a government contract because of their religious beliefs. The save Chick-fil-A legislation that I’m about to sign is a victory for religious freedom in Texas.”

White Woman With Unleashed Pomeranian Harasses Black Family Taking Photos of Their 1-Year-Old
Franci Neely, a Houston socialite and the ex-wife of Astros owner Jim Crane, was recorded harassing a black family for taking photos on a scenic boulevard in celebration of their daughter's first birthday. Neely had her unleashed Pomeranian with her, and zero shoes.
Kelyn and Isaiah Allen hired a professional photographer to take pics of their baby daughter Anja. The couple had set up blankets and brought a few balloons to the North Boulevard in Houston, a picturesque esplanade frequented by individuals wishing to capture a special memory.
However, as the Allens were photographing their daughter, Franci Neely became angered that they were blocking the sidewalk. In a now-viral video, the barefoot Neely is seen with her leash-less dog, approaching the family and screaming at them for taking pictures on the esplanade. According to Kelyn, Neely passed several groups similarly taking photos to approach Kelyn and her family, yelling, "You are trampling the grass that we pay for."

Restaurant worker who says she was fired for speaking Spanish fights back
Francisca Pérez said she was going about her job as a line cook at a high-end California restaurant, where she worked for over a decade, when the owner fired her for speaking Spanish to a fellow worker.
“I felt humiliated," Pérez told NBC News. "I felt I was not worth anything in this country."
Pérez said that last May she and a recently hired waitress, Janet Ruelas-Nava, exchanged a few words in Spanish about whether a dish was ready to go out at Osteria Fasulo in Davis, west of Sacramento.
Pérez said the owner, Leonardo Fasulo, heard them and started yelling at Ruelas, saying they shouldn't speak Spanish at work.
Gay man films landlady demanding he move because of visiting ‘homosexuals’
A gay man in Florida recorded his landlady demanding he move out of her apartment. He says she turned unwelcoming after learning about his sexuality. The relationship broke down just days after he moved in.
Randal Coffman, 22, moved into the home of Jackie Cooper in Middleburg, Clay County, Florida. Cooper rents out a small apartment on the back of her property which has a separate entrance.
Coffman moved in 1 December. He says two weeks later Cooper demanded he move out. He believes his landlady had a change of heart when she discovered he’s gay.
His landlady told him he wasn’t allowed to bring girls back to the property late at night. That’s when he informed her that wouldn’t be happening as he’s gay.

The religious right is already waging war on LGBTQ legislation in the next Congress
All the signs point to a blue wave on Tuesday that will return the House of Representatives to Democratic control. (On the other hand, the Senate is a long shot, at best.)
Politicians from both sides of the aisle have all but conceded that Republicans have virtually no chance of holding onto their majority. That includes religious right leaders, who are now laying out their strategy to stop Democrats from passing any legislation that would help LGBTQ people.
In particular, they have declared war on the Equality Act, a measure that would add gender identity and sexual orientation to existing civil rights protections.
