White customer at Mexican restaurant swears at Spanish-speaking manager

A video showing a white woman swearing at the general manager of a Mexican restaurant in West Virginia for speaking Spanish went viral over the weekend.

“English is our first language, so you need to speak English,” the woman, identified in the video as Jill, screamed at Sergio Budar, the manager. “Get the fuck out of my country.”

One of two videos capturing the incident shows how customers at Tampico Mexican Restaurant in Parkersburg, West Virginia, were astonished at the woman’s remarks.

Now a tax preparer is refusing to serve LGBTQ people & claiming ‘religious freedom’

A tax-filing business in Indiana refused to serve a lesbian couple, citing the business owner’s religious beliefs.

Bailey Brazzel says she has gone to Carver Tax Service in Russiaville, Indiana, to have her taxes done for years.

But she won’t be going back anymore.

She and her new wife Samantha – they were married this past July – went to Carver Tax Service and were told by Nancy Fivecoate, who runs the business, that she would not prepare their taxes.

Alabama newspaper editor calls for the Ku Klux Klan to 'clean out D.C.'

The editor of a small-town Alabama newspaper published an editorial calling for "the Ku Klux Klan to night ride again" against "Democrats in the Republican Party and Democrats [who] are plotting to raise taxes in Alabama."

Goodloe Sutton – who is the publisher of the Democrat-Reporter newspaper in Linden, Alabama – confirmed to the Montgomery Advertiser on Monday that he authored the Feb. 14 editorial calling for the return of a white supremacist hate group.

"If we could get the Klan to go up there and clean out D.C., we'd all been better off," Sutton said.

Asked to elaborate what he meant by "cleaning up D.C.," Sutton suggested lynching.

"We'll get the hemp ropes out, loop them over a tall limb and hang all of them," Sutton said.

CBP facing lawsuit after border agent detains women for speaking Spanish

Two women who were detained by a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent for speaking Spanish at a grocery store in Montana are suing the agency.

Mimi Hernandez and Ana Suda filed the lawsuit on Thursday with the assistance of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) after May’s incident, which was recorded and went viral.

In the footage, CBP agent Paul O’Neal can be heard telling the women — both American citizens — “I saw that you guys are speaking Spanish, which is very unheard of up here.”

O’Neal also says the women are being detained because of “speaking Spanish in the store, in a state where it’s predominantly English-speaking.”

An 11-year-old lesbian was beaten up at school & it was caught on video

An 11-year-old girl in New Mexico has faced severe and violent bullying since she came out at school. This past Friday, she was beaten up at school and other students recorded it.

Savannah Tirre came out last October, and her parents say that they instantly accepted her.

“We said, ‘We don’t care, we just want you happy.’ It’s never been an issue in this family,” her mother, Chelsea Tirre, said.

The bigger problem was school. Savannah faced immediate bullying at her middle school near Las Cruces, New Mexico.

INDIA IS CRACKING DOWN ON ECOMMERCE AND FREE SPEECH

WHEN IT COMES to cracking down on tech giants, India is on a roll. The country was the first to reject Facebook’s contentious plan to offer free internet access to parts of the developing world in 2016. Since December, Indian policymakers have taken a page from China’s playbook, enacting sweeping restrictions in an attempt to curtail the power of ecommerce behemoths like Amazon, and pushing proposals that would require internet companies to censor “unlawful” content, break user encryption, and forbid Indian data from being stored on foreign soil. In the past week alone, Indian officials have demanded that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey come before Parliament to answer accusations of bias, called for a ban on TikTok, and opened an investigation into claims that Google abused its Android mobile operating system to unfairly promote its own services.

For all its good intentions, India’s tech backlash could backfire, with potentially dire consequences for all tech companies—big and small—operating in India, not to mention free speech online. “There is an element of nationalism which is creeping into tech policy in India,” said Apar Gupta, executive director of the Internet Freedom Foundation, a digital-rights group. Gupta says this has resulted in a number of India-First-style tech policies being rushed through the government using the much quicker executive notification process rather than seeking parliamentary approval, which could have resulted in laws that would be more comprehensive and enforceable.

Four suspects arrested in brutal attack on Texas gay couple

Four men were arrested Tuesday in connection with the brutal beating of a gay couple in downtown Austin last month. Police say an anonymous tip sent to their Crime Stoppers line helped them apprehend the suspects.

The four men allegedly beat Spencer Deehring, 23, and Tristan Perry, 22, after the couple left a gay club holding hands in downtown Austin in the early hours of Jan. 19. The suspects are accused of hurling anti-gay slurs at Deehring and Perry before attacking them. Perry suffered a broken nose after being punched in the face and kicked in the head, and Deehring was knocked unconscious. A bystander called 911, and both men were hospitalized after the attack.

Teen killers who allegedly shot musician to be charged as adults

A group of pistol-packing teens and a 12-year-old girl are facing murder charges after they allegedly robbed and shot to death a rising country music star in Nashville, police said.

The accused killers accosted 24-year-old Kyle Yorlets behind his home and opened fire when he refused to give them his car keys, they said.

The suspects were identified as Diamond Lewis, 15; Roniyah McKnight, 14; Decorrius Wright, 16; as well as the 12-year-old and a 13-year-old boy whose names were withheld because of their ages.

Prosecutors plan to charge them as adults, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

Police said the victim had been a random target.

“He’s an absolute, absolute innocent victim,” police spokesman Don Arron said. He added, “none of the five individuals [arrested] are a stranger to the system or this police department.”

Police sergeant resigns amid gay bashing and underage gay sex allegations

A gay police sergeant from Chicago has resigned in disgrace after finding himself at the center of a criminal investigation.

45-year-old Eric Elkins, who has been with the department nearly 20 years, officially stepped down from his post last week, a spokesman for the Chicago Police Department says.

Elkins made headlines last September when he and a gang of three other men allegedly beat Thomas Stacha and his boyfriend John Sherwood outside of the popular Chicago gay bar @mosphere.

According to The Chicago Tribune, a fight between the men started inside the club and continued outside. The beating left Stacha with broken cheekbones and a perforated trachea and Sherwood with a compound leg fracture.

Elkins was placed on paid leave after the incident. That is, until now. A spokesperson for the department says that since he has “resigned under investigation,” he will be ineligible for retired police credentials.

This man is trying to sue his parents for giving birth to him

Let’s say that someone, without asking your permission in advance, kidnapped you and brought you to a new country where your life would be noisy, confusing, and full of suffering. That seems like something you could sue for, right?

Now let’s say that the way they did this was by giving birth to you.

That’s (approximately) the logic of Raphael Samuel, a Mumbai business executive trying to sue his parents for creating him. He told the BBC that he’s been obsessed since he was a small child with the question of why his parents were entitled to create him without his consent. Because it’s not possible to ask children for consent before they are created, he argues, it’s wrong to have them at all.

Protesting drag queens has become the new religious right merit badge

Another day, another religious right protest at a public library.

Evangelical Christians have a new target for their inane protests – drag queens. The perpetually perturbed are up in arms that drag queens are reading stories to children in public libraries.

All over the country, the radical right is showing up to terrify children and parents in the name of God. While the religious zealots would protest outside of abortion providers to shame and scare women who are at their most vulnerable, now they’re focused on being child abusers.

If "you" define the music it can't stereotype you. Last I checked, Hip Hop isn't a race. It's a lifestyle convention and I refuse for it to define me because I have no idea what they're talking about and I lived amongst them.

No Charges In Police Killing Of Mall Shopper Mistaken For Shooter

The fatal police shooting of an armed Alabama man after he was mistaken for a mall shooter in November was “justified and not criminal,” authorities said Tuesday.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall decided that the Hoover, Alabama, officer who fatally shot 21-year-old Emantic “EJ” F. Bradford Jr. will not be criminally charged in the Thanksgiving night shooting.

Transgender woman sues N.J. restaurant claiming unlawful termination

A transgender woman filed a lawsuit last week against a New Jersey restaurant claiming she was unlawfully fired due to her gender identity.

Crystal Aiello worked at Sicilian Sun in Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J., for just one day in September before the owner of the Italian restaurant, Jim Boggio, informed her she was being terminated.

"Boggio called plaintiff and left a message stating, 'Other servers did not feel like you were a good fit,' and that she did not need to return to the restaurant," the lawsuit states. "Boggio fired the plaintiff solely because at least one member of staff was uncomfortable working with a transgender woman."
