Is notion of a genderless humanity going too far?
We don’t even have pronouns for this.
That’s what accounts for the clumsy grammar of the statement parent Kori Doty issued about Doty’s newborn baby, Searyl Atli Doty. For that matter, it also accounts for the clumsy grammar of the sentence you just read.
Anyway, Kori Doty’s statement read: “It’s up to Searyl to decide how they identify, when they are old enough to develop their own gender identity. I am not going to foreclose that choice based on an arbitrary assignment of gender at birth based on an inspection of their genitals.”
As noted, the English language is not ready for this. For all its splendors, English offers no gender-neutral singular pronoun except “it.” Who wants to be an “it?”
If the language is not ready, well, truth to tell, neither is your humble correspondent. It’s a jarring realization.

Young Folk Don't Believe in Fairy Tales
As many as 90 per cent of young people believe that the tales are old-fashioned with 89 per cent of people surveyed saying they perpetuate gender stereotypes.
Seventy seven per cent believe that the classic stories are sexist while a quarter of parents said they wouldn't read 'offensive' tales to their young children at bedtime.
But parents have hit back, saying that fairy tales showed them both sides of life and that reading them to their young children was an experience they loved.

42 Dugg Posts Since-Deleted Homophobic Rant Amid Controversial Video of Him Licking Son’s Neck
On Friday, the Detroit rapper hit up Instagram to share a video of himself aboard an airplane with his 3-year-old son. The clip showed the artist kissing and licking the child’s neck, prompting the boy to pull away from his dad as he let out a chuckle. The video immediately went viral and ignited a wave of criticism as well as accusations of child abuse. Some social media users described Dugg’s actions as “sick” and “inappropriate,” while others threatened to call Child Protective Services on the “Maybach” artist.
“If I say I’m not with that gay shit that’s where y’all should leave it. Quit tryna shove that shit down n***as’ throats. Ah gay n***a ah be on national TV tonguing down another hoe ass n***a, but that’s ok though.

THE LGBTQ MOVEMENT FALTERED
LGBTQ acceptance is eroding even among young people. What are we going to do about it?
There is some very bad news that not nearly enough people are talking about. Acceptance of the LGBTQ community is significantly declining in the United States and has been for several years now. Almost two years ago, a national annual survey by GLAAD found that, since 2016, Americans have become much more uncomfortable with LGBTQ folks. Though the report has since become slightly dated, little research has been done on the issue since. Other statistics, such as consistent increases in anti-LGBTQ hate crimes, suggest that the problem has not abated and may even be getting worse.
Despite the seriousness of this issue, there appears to be little awareness within the LGBTQ community that its public support is eroding. This ignorance within the wider community is mirrored by a lack of serious analysis by queer leaders and researchers. That needs to change.
And let’s not fool ourselves that this is a US-only problem. While it’s unclear how much this backlash is mirrored in Canada and Western Europe (which share similar historical trajectories on LGBTQ rights), both of these regions have also seen notable increases in anti-LGBTQ hate crimes – so there is good reason to be pessimistic. However, only real research focused on social attitudes will give us clarity. For whatever reason, this research isn’t being done in earnest.

Kids With Cognitive Problems Can Be Locked Up for Years Without a Trial
In California and across much of the country, children with cognitive problems routinely languish in custody for months or years while judges determine whether they’ll be able to pick up the skills needed for a fair trial. Most states don’t have comprehensive programs to help these kids become “competent,” as the courts call it, referring to someone who has the ability to assist their attorneys with their defense and possesses a solid understanding of the charges and proceedings against them. In one egregious case, according to a legal director at the National Juvenile Defender Center, children were asked to watch episodes of Law & Order to prepare for their trials.
