A Black Marxist Scholar Wanted to Talk About Race. It Ignited a Fury.
Adolph Reed is a son of the segregated South, a native of New Orleans who organized poor Black people and antiwar soldiers in the late 1960s and became a leading Socialist scholar at a trio of top universities.
Along the way, he acquired the conviction, controversial today, that the left is too focused on race and not enough on class. Lasting victories were achieved, he believed, when working class and poor people of all races fought shoulder to shoulder for their rights.
“Adolph Reed and his ilk believe that if we talk about race too much we will alienate too many, and that will keep us from building a movement,” said Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, a Princeton professor of African-American studies and a D.S.A. member. “We don’t want that — we want to win white people to an understanding of how their racism has fundamentally distorted the lives of Black people.”
A contrary view is offered by Professor Reed and some prominent scholars and activists, many of whom are Black. They see the current emphasis in the culture on race-based politics as a dead-end. They include Dr. West; the historians Barbara Fields of Columbia University and Toure Reed — Adolph’s son — of Illinois State; and Bhaskar Sunkara, founder of Jacobin, a Socialist magazine.
“An obsession with disparities of race has colonized the thinking of left and liberal types,” Professor Reed told me. “There’s this insistence that race and racism are fundamental determinants of all Black people’s existence.”

Trump campaign leans into Goya controversy in new Spanish ads
President Trump’s reelection campaign is leaning into the recent controversy over Goya Foods with a slate of Spanish-language television and radio advertisements as he seeks to cut Joe Biden’s margin with Hispanic voters.
The Trump campaign announced Wednesday that a television ad highlighting “Democrats’ shameful smear campaign against Goya Foods, a beloved Hispanic-owned family business” and two radio ads will begin airing in Florida, and a third radio ad will be released “in other regions.”
The ads appears to cast Democrats as socialists and extremists, claiming that the party members are "too extreme for Hispanic Americans."
“From Democrats’ support for socialism, to cutting school choice and police funding, they are just too extreme for Hispanic Americans—and Joe Biden is too weak to stand up for us. Now, with the left's assault on Goya, it's clear that not even your abuela's Sazón would be safe in Joe Biden's America,” Latinos for Trump said in a statement in announcing the ads.
“Oh man, all these leftists are the same. They’re so intolerant. Imagine if they get more power,” says one woman in one of the radio ads set to air in Florida. “I came here to be free.
Hollywood's identity crisis: Actors, writers and producers warn of 'reverse racism' in the film industry which has created a 'toxic' climate for anyone who is a white, middle-age man
A revolution is under way. White actors are being fired. Edicts from studio bosses make it clear that only minorities – racial and sexual – can be given jobs.
A new wave of what has been termed by some as anti-white prejudice is causing writers, directors and producers to fear they will never work again. One described the current atmosphere as 'more toxic than Chernobyl', with leading actors afraid to speak out amid concern they will be labelled racist.
The first sign came with one of the most powerful black directors in Hollywood, Oscar-winning Jordan Peele – the man behind box office hits such as Get Out and Us – stated in public that he did not want to hire a leading man who was white.
'I don't see myself casting a white dude as the lead in my movie,' Peele said. 'Not that I don't like white dudes. But I've seen that movie before.'

James Harden Slammed for Wearing Face Mask With Pro-Cop Symbol
James Harden is catching heat over the design of his coronavirus protective gear.
On Thursday night, the Houston Rockets star was spotted in Orlando rocking a face covering that appeared to feature a pro-law enforcement graphic. The piece showed a skull on top of a black-and-white American flag pattern with a single blue stripe running through it. Twitter users immediately blasted Harden after realizing the mask was covered with the "thin blue line" flag, a controversial symbol that's displayed in support for officers.
Miss Swimsuit UK, 23, is stripped of her title after she posted 'All Lives Matter' in Facebook post and questioned whether George Floyd was innocent
Miss Swimsuit UK has been stripped of her crown after posting an anti Black Lives Matter rant questioning whether George Floyd was innocent.
The 2019 swimsuit champion, Jasmine Archer-Jones, 23, from Chester, who moved to Texas shortly after winning the title, took to Facebook to share her view.
In a now deleted post made on June 3 she wrote: 'This is ridiculous now. It HAS to STOP. ALL lives matter, if you look deeply into statistics, more UNARMED WHITE people DIED than BLACK last year', reports The Sun.
Why Hispanic business owners are urging you to BUY-cott Goya products
The Goya Foods boycott is an insult to Hispanics, America’s largest minority group. Politicians and pundits — some Hispanic, many others painfully woke-white — are calling for a boycott of the largest Hispanic food manufacturer and distributor in the nation, a company that employs more than 4,000 people.
The Bodega and Small Business Association, which represents thousands of New York City bodegas, is not taking this lying down. We are urging our stores and customers to stock up on all of Goya’s great products.
We are calling for a Goya buycott.
Idris Elba says he doesn't 'believe in censorship,' racist shows and movies should not be removed
The 47-year-old actor told the Radio Times during an interview published Tuesday that he believes in free speech and sometimes that includes speech that might not be widely accepted.
"To mock the truth, you have to know the truth. But to censor racist themes within a show, to pull it – wait a second, I think viewers should know that people made shows like this," the "Luther" actor said when asked about his thoughts on removing content with offensive jokes.
While Elba said he understands networks may have removed racially insensitive content due to the Black Lives Matter movement, he believes there's a better way to go about addressing those films and shows.
"Out of respect for the time and the movement, commissioners and archive-holders pulling things they think are exceptionally tone-deaf at this time – fair enough and good for you," he said. "But I think, moving forward, people should know that freedom of speech is accepted, but the audience should know what they’re getting into."

On second thought. Give the lobster to them (the children.) I'll starve. Who gives a fuck. 11-Jul-2020
I am holding her and her tribe responsible for attempting to take food out of community mouths. Some people depend on cooking with Goya products. We enjoy the products because it reminds us of our heritage, its affordable and it's home. Some of us actually like who we are. I don't give a fuck where food comes from as long as we eat. Just because you are afforded privilege doesn't mean you get to take. Unless you are going to make whole every person denied food, keep your paws clipped.
PS: If you are going to make everyone whole, I want lobster... 11-Jul-2020
Five Guys employees were fired for refusing to serve police officers in Alabama, as tension mounts between service workers and law enforcement
"Five Guys and the Daphne, AL franchise want to thank the Daphne Police Department for their support in working together toward a resolution," the post reads.
