Sea Fever (2019)
Marine Biology student with no social graces gets punished. She has to spend a week on a fishing boat with strangers and foreigners to soothe her mind of robotic intelligence.
Hermoine Corfield plays it clumsy and rough. She adapts to the idea that intelligence needs to be shared, as well as acquired to benefit anyone.
Connie Nielsen raises plenty of steam as a female captain at her wits end with a fucking husband who's constantly showing her up.
Olwen Fouere smashed the boat. Dougray Scott's macho fragility grants him exclusivity to daddy home care package status. Ardalan Esmaili is smart slippery daddy squish.
There are no heroes, the choices are sound, the parasite creeps and the subtlety of the menace illuminates the thought. Well done, Neasa Hardiman (director.) 01-Aug-2020
Humanoids From The Deep (1980)
Cis sea monsters killing dogs, children and men so they can rape the women. It's pure schlock, WTF and astounding they pulled it off. I was less hesitant to watch because it was helmed by a woman. A woman, Barbara Peeters, would never exploit it. She handles her task, dons a penis cap for the shots and switches to thinking emotion about circumstances. She navigated like a pro. The fight scenes turned out hilarious but the racism, kills and rapes were sharp. All sexes, breeds and races shared the heroism.
(What were these people eating then? Their hair looked terrific.) 08-May-2020
Autopsy Of Jane Doe, The (2016)
The autopsy is comprehensive, the actors are aligned and the corpse is an eerily beautiful masterpiece. The mumbo jumbo is handled scientifically which excludes genius insanity being the harbinger of truth and sets some practical scares for us. 27-Mar-2020
Piece of shit about a Charlie's angel being possessed by a spiteful demon. The spiteful demon is a woman that accepts no bullshit from a man and punishes him dearly for it. I see no reason to destroy her. She's today's woman. When Bobbie Bresee's Playboy playmate regresses to her childhood trauma like Sally Field in "Sybil," it was brilliant hilarity. LaWanda Page provoked hee haws. A lot of the film is laughable and ridiculous. It's a piece of shit that entertains.
A cleanup might do it good. 13-Mar-2020
Infiltrating a religious sect to save a sibling. The premise barely sustains itself and Dan Stevens' idea of macho heroism is to grunt like a gorilla and squawk like a duck. He is so inspired to erase his Downton starter that what he erects is stiff overcompensation. The only thing the film gets right is torture and a weirdly coincidental female tree. 11-Mar-2020
Pet Semetary (2019)
To re-establish a franchise, new ideas must sprout to keep it fresh whilst the outline maintains its mythology. It had ideas but they pushed forward for a sequel not sense. I read a book about an achingly heartbroken mother who suffered a breakdown over a loss. The dad exemplified the role of a devoted and loving husband who would do anything to keep his family intact no matter the consequences. The remake presents the hands-off and detached parents of today that diminishes the heart and the horror. The movie is so invested in not being the other one that it fails. 03-Nov-2019
The act is porny, the conversations are ear splitting but the elevator has a wicked sense of humor. 27-Sep-2018
Collector, The (2009)
Schooling for psychopaths on how to execute an ugly death. It's bloody torture. 20-Jun-2018
Prowler, The (1981)
He's not really a prowler but a psycho army vet rampaging the carnality of youth and its supporters. He probably would've rivaled Jason if he didn't look so silly. That does not deter the director from stacking cliche horror sequences that naturally scare. The annihilation is ferocious, the cast is inclined and the bloodshed is thick. 14-Jul-2017
