Bette Midler had a Roseanne Barr moment on Twitter last night. Apologies have started.
Bette Midler has apologized for a tweet that was racially insensitive. The iconic singer, impassioned by the Supreme Court nomination of accused sexual abuser Brett Kavanaugh, sent a now-deleted tweet decrying the plight of women worldwide that included a racial slur.
“Women, are the n-word of the world,” she sent. “Raped, beaten, enslaved, married off, worked like dumb animals; denied education and inheritance; enduring the pain and danger of childbirth and life IN SILENCE for THOUSANDS of years They are the most disrespected creatures on earth.”
That's what happens when you keep the word around. School yourselves. 05-Oct-2018
Anti-LGBTQ Groups Sue Louisiana Governor to Stop Drag Queen Story Hour
In an attempt to stop a drag queen story hour event at Lafayette Public Library in Louisiana, two antigay Christian groups have filed suit against the town of Lafayette, the governor of Louisiana, and the library.
Chris Sevier, who with others filed suit on behalf of Warriors for Christ and Special Forces of Liberty, had previously sued five states claiming he had married his computer in New Mexico and they should recognize the union, reports local TV station KATC. Those suits were a stunt to challenge marriage equality. He has filed several other bizarre, unsuccessful suits -- against Apple, claiming that an erroneous URL caused him to develop a pornography addiction, and against members of Congress who displayed Pride flags.

‘Ex-gay’ activist claims Church of England is trying to undermine the American Revolution
A judge shut down a frivolous ‘Christian flag’ lawsuit & gave the plaintiffs hell
A federal judge denied a Christian conservative organization’s request for an injunction to fly the Christian flag at Boston’s city hall.
In front of City Hall in Boston, there are three flagpoles. One has the American flag, another flies the Massachusetts flag, and the third usually has the Boston flag on it but sometimes flies a flag associated with an event in the city.
It’s the third flagpole that really bothers Christian conservatives. That pole sometimes flies flags that they don’t like, like the flags of “Communist China and Cuba” (yes, their lawsuit really refers to China and Cuba in that way).

Pope Francis tells parents not to reject gay kids, but send them to therapy to ‘see how things are’
Pope Francis wants to be seen as the cool modern Pope who’s down with LGBTQ people, but he keeps tripping over his own feet every time he tries.
On the Papal plane on his way back from a contentious visit to Ireland, where he was pressed on the church’s continued cover up of the sexual abuse of children by church authorities, Francis took time to answer reporters’ questions.

Hollywood cleaned house. Why can't the Catholic Church?
If Trump wants to ‘protect our kids,’ why isn’t he banning priests instead of migrants?
Donald Trump has rattled the cages of his already enraged supporters by mercilessly using the murder of a 20-year-old Iowa college student by a Mexican national to defend his racism. Trump has spat on the body of Mollie Tibbets to further raise his xenophobic platform, tout his unnecessary southern border wall, and as a wedge issue in the coming midterm elections.
Though he blames Democrats for any and all problems – including Tibbets’ death – statistics show that undocumented immigrants commit far fewer violent crimes than native-born U.S. citizens.

Frontier Airlines Suspends Pilot Accused of Threatening Trans Girl
Since a group of parents declared it was “hunting season” on transgender people in response to news that a 12-year-old trans girl used the women’s bathroom at her school in Achille, Okla., the school shuttered its doors over the violent threats and her supporters held a silent demonstration. Now Frontier Airlines has suspended a pilot who allegedly threatened the young girl known only as Maddie, according to Oklahoma TV station KOCO.
The pilot was accused, along with several other adults, of threatening to do harm to Maddie simply for using the women’s restroom once when she couldn’t access the faculty bathroom, as she was told to do.
While the airline would not name the pilot involved with the incident, it released a statement confirming the pilot was suspended August 13 and condemning his actions.

Oklahoma School Shuts Down for 2 Days After Parents Threaten Transgender 7th Grader on Facebook
A school district in southern Oklahoma was forced to shut down for two days after parents used a Facebook group to threaten violence against a transgender seventh-grade student.

Catholic League boycotts Burger King over ‘c word’
The Catholic League has decided it’s had enough of Burger King and they are calling for a boycott. You know what that means? More burgers for us.
Apparently Catholic League President Bill Donohue didn’t appreciate the use of the “c-word,” as he called it, on the Samantha Bee show Full Frontal. Since Burger King ads were playing at the time and were not canceled after his request, he’s taking his beef out on the company.

Zac Efron Gets Dreadlocks, Fans Accuse Him of Cultural Appropriation
Zac Efron's latest hairstyle has fans accusing him of cultural appropriation. The Greatest Showman actor debuted his new dreadlocks on Instagram Thursday with the caption "Just for fun," causing people online to call him out for appropriating black culture without respecting its origin or significance.
The photo, which has about 1.4 million likes and 16,300 comments, sparked a heated debate on Instagram. Comments ranged from "it's his hair and his body" to one saying he started a "race war." One user rebecca_jpeg wrote, "Honestly he could totally have dreads but it should not be for FUN. It should be because he knows the cultural significance and is joining it such as becoming a rastafarian." The user continued, "You do realize that dreadlocks have a cultural AND religious significance and backround [sic] right. so it is not the same as straightening or dying hair."

The hair-raising truth? Dreadlocks don’t belong to one ‘culture’
The History of Dreadlocks
People should be allowed to pay homage to any culture within the bounds of respect. The black community appropriated white man's religion and white woman's looks. Respect works both ways. You're thinking like supremacists whose shit don't stink. Fight the government that will obliterate your freedom to ponder such ridiculous confrontations. Show your pride not your weaknesses!

WATCH: Unbelievably Petty Man Calls Cops on Dude Eating Burrito on BART Train
Pop quiz, hotshot. There’s a guy eating a burrito on a BART train in San Francisco. A sign on the opposite wall says that eating and drinking is prohibited, but he’s still chowing down on his foil-wrapped lunch. What do you do? What do you do?
For most of us, the answer is… nothing. At most, we might roll our eyes in his general direction, start making a mental list of the burrito restaurants between the station and our eventual destinations, or even type and eventually delete a not particularly good tweet about it.
But then there’s this guy, who decides to do the public transport-equivalent of a citizen’s arrest. A video posted to the r/BayArea subreddit on Sunday shows a middle-aged white man—one who’s dressed like Uncle Joey Gladstone’s laundry hamper—berating a burrito-eater before calling the police.
RuPaul's "Bipolar Express" Comments Sparked A Ton Of Fan Backlash After The Latest 'Drag Race' Challenge
The reality show is groundbreaking in many ways, but that doesn't mean it's free from controversy. Recently RuPaul's Drag Race used the word "bipolar" in a context that has many shaking their heads. During a taped clip from the June 7 episode, the series' host RuPaul Charles used the term "bipolar express" to introduce the drag queens' main objective for the week, a competition called the Evil Twins maxi challenge. (As opposed to the mini challenge, which comes at the beginning of the episode.) Even days after the episode aired, the moment is still sparking backlash on Twitter. (Bustle reached out to reps for RuPaul's Drag Race and RuPaul for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.)
Essentially, the contestants needed to come up with two looks for the week: one good, and one evil. But the language that RuPaul used in her pun-filled intro brought mental health into the discussion in a very uncomfortable way. "Hey racers!" the blond-wigged host chirped from the screen, greeting the drag queens gathered below before continuing:
"It's time to split... personalities. I wanna see 'Sybil' disobedience. Double down. All aboard the Bipolar Express. Wooo woooo! Deuces!"
