Ellen Page Calls Out Chris Pratt for Attending ‘Infamously Anti-LGBTQ’ Church
Ellen Page on Thursday criticized Chris Pratt for attending a “infamously anti-LGBTQ” church after he appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and discussed his religious side.
The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star sat down with Colbert to promote “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” and Pratt said he just finished a 21-day Daniel Fast that he took part in through his church and that his pastor encouraged. He also said the pastor shared with him words of wisdom about balancing fame and his inner self.
“If the spotlight that is shining on you is brighter than the light that’s within you, it will kill you,” Pratt recounted to Colbert.
Page tweeted about the appearance and the pastor shortly after, writing, “Oh. K. Um. But his church is infamously anti lgbtq so maybe address that too?”

A Chicago public school teacher is accused of enlisting the help of a friend to beat one of her 9-year-old students with belts, according to a federal lawsuit filed by the student's mother Thursday.
Asia Gaines filed the suit against the Chicago Board of Education; her son's homeroom teacher, Kristen Haynes; and Haynes' childhood friend, Juanita Tyler.
The suit alleges that Haynes, 50, invited Tyler, 56, to George W. Tilton Elementary School "for the purpose of corporally punishing" Gaines' son, identified only as JC, on Sept. 20, 2018.

White Officer Demoted After Mocking Black Woman Who Walked Home In Freezing Temperatures
A white Detroit police officer has been demoted from his rank of corporal and reassigned from his precinct after posting Snapchat videos mocking a Black woman who walked home in subzero temperatures after having her car impounded.
Steele thought it was a good idea to pull up his Snapchat and record footage of the woman walking away as he and his colleague start quipping, “Priceless,” “Walk of shame…in the cold,” and “Bye, Felicia.” The videos were first uncovered by news station WXYZ. To make matters worse, he used premade filters on the social media app, including “What Black girl magic looks like,” and “Celebrating Black History Month in the captured footage.
Teens in Make America Great Again hats taunted a Native American elder at the Lincoln Memorial
A crowd of teenagers surrounded a Native American elder and other activists and mocked them after Friday's Indigenous Peoples March at the Lincoln Memorial.
Videos of the confrontation show a smiling young man in a red Make America Great Again hat standing directly in front of the man, who was playing a drum and chanting. Other kids could be seen laughing, jumping around and making fun of the chants.
"I did not feel safe in that circle," said Kaya Taitano, a student at the University of the District of Columbia who participated in the march and shot the videos.
Christian NCAA member Azusa Pacific bans all same-sex relationships
Azusa Pacific University, an NCAA Division II school with ties to the Christian church, has reinstated a previously suspended ban on same-sex relationships, sending LGBTQ students, student-athletes, members of the administration and advocates scrambling.
The school’s Board of Trustees late last week sent a notice returning the school’s policy to say “Students may not engage in a romanticized same-sex relationship.”
Some Christians have long held that the Bible bans sex between people of the same gender. This policy goes even further, banning all romantic same-sex relationships, even those that don’t include sex. The school’s policy already bans sex outside of wedlock, this policy simply specifically targets gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans and queer people.
God has yet to weigh in on the decision.

California high school students line up to spell out racial slur at senior picnic
A group of Southern California high school students face disciplinary action after spelling out the n-word with lettered T-shirts at a senior picnic.
The Escondido Union High School District this week confirmed that about 10 students at a senior event "made a poor decision" by participating in the stunt involving the racial slur, CNN affiliate KGTV reported.
"We are a campus that prides itself on inclusion and embraces diversity," Principal Adriana Lepe-Ramirez said in a statement.
"We will not tolerate actions that send messages of racism and promote divisiveness."
The statement said Escondido High School, district officials and local police were investigating the incident, the station reported.
Street preacher gets 27 years in 'Basement of Horrors' case
A self-proclaimed street preacher who had a role in kidnapping, torturing and enslaving mentally disabled adults chained up in a filthy basement has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Philadelphia announced that Eddie "the Reverend Ed" Wright was sentenced Thursday for the scheme that lasted from 2001 to October 2011. He is the second of the five people charged in the case that shocked Philadelphia and the nation to be sentenced this week, after Nicklaus Woodard was also sentenced to 27 years on Tuesday.
Last month, Jean McIntosh was sentenced to 40 years prison for her role. McIntosh helped prosecutors build a case against her mother, Linda Weston, the ringleader of the group that held victims captive for years in a cramped basement in the plan to steal more than $200,000 in government benefits.

Azealia Banks takes aim at Troye Sivan in series of Tweets
If you’re not with Azealia Banks 100%, you may as well be against her.
And hey, that’s her prerogative.
She doesn’t make it easy to back her all the time — we’ve covered her many beefs time and time again.
Now Australian pop star Troye Sivan finds himself fresh at the center of her displeasure yet again, after giving a wishy-washy answer to Andy Cohen about what he’d say to her if the two happened to be riding an elevator together.
To back it up, Sivan was asked in January if there are any rappers he’d be interested in working with.
“I mean, I was a huge Azealia Banks fan. That all just kind of like went south a little bit. It’s just one of those annoying things where you just want to support [her] so bad, and it just doesn’t work out like that.”
