Mexican women are angry about rape, murder and government neglect — and they want the world to know
Wearing green bandannas and dousing police in pink glitter, Mexican women on Aug. 16 staged a furious protest in Mexico City after a 17-year-old girl reported being raped by four police officers earlier in the month.
Officials have sent mixed signals about ongoing investigations of the case, and Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum triggered fury among feminists when she said there would be no “fabrication of suspects.”
The alleged police rape has hit a nerve in Mexico, where women face extremely high rates of violence and incessant catcalling.
Another teen girl was reported being raped by a Mexico City policeman days before the women’s march, which drew an estimated 2,000 people and included both violent property destruction and wrenching tributes to Mexico’s missing women and girls.
With 1,812 women murdered between January and July this year — about 10 a day — Mexico is Latin America’s second-most dangerous country for women, after Brazil, according to the United Nations. More than 200 Mexican women have been kidnapped so far in 2019.

California Pedophile Sentenced To 230 Years For Raping Girl 'At Least 90 Times'
A prosecutor in California described the case of a pedophile who was just handed a 230-year sentence as “possibly the most egregious child sexual assault case" he has ever seen.
Deon Austin Welch, 30, was sentenced Friday after being convicted of 16 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child with a sentence-enhancing great bodily injury allegation. Welch had raped a girl he lived with dozens of times, leading to her getting pregnant. The case has since generated considerable criticism of Riverside County's child welfare agency, which had settled with the victim for $10 million last summer after failing to remove her from the home.
Riverside County Superior Court Judge Bernard Schwartz explained his choice of handing down the most severe possible sentence in this situation, while condemning the system which allowed the crimes to continue without intervention.

More than 220 former altar boys, students and Boy Scouts launch sex abuse lawsuit against 35 Catholic leaders in Guam's archdiocese
More than 220 former altar boys, students and Boy Scouts are suing the Catholic clergy in Guam in a shocking sex abuse scandal that has spanned generations and involved the island's archbishop.
The Catholic clergy in U.S. has been shrouded in a sex abuse scandal over the past decade and now it has left its mark on the American island territory of Guam.
Many of the allegations were against former Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Guam Anthony Sablan Apuron, 73, who has overseen the church since 1986 before he was removed in light of the accusations in 2018.
He was convicted in a secret Vatican trial and suspended in 2016 and in 2018 he was found guilty of sexual abusing minors and finally removed from his post.

Nearly 800 accuse Boy Scouts of failing to protect them from sex abuse as new lawsuit is filed
A lawsuit filed late Monday against the Boy Scouts of America says hundreds of former Scouts have come forward in recent months with accounts of sexual abuse, allegations from across eight decades that reach nearly every state.
Lawyers began collecting the accounts this spring as they prepared a suit, which they filed on behalf of a client who alleges his former scoutmaster plied him with drugs and alcohol before repeatedly sexually abusing him.
At a news conference Tuesday morning, the lawyers said they have nearly 800 other clients who were abused while Scouts. The suit says at least 350 abusers do not appear in the Boy Scouts’ disciplinary files, citing that as evidence that the organization has not adequately vetted its volunteers and hidden the extent of the sexual abuse scandal.

Villalonga, 18, is one of about 20 ex-students of the Antonio Próvolo Institute for Deaf and Hearing Impaired Children in Mendoza province who say they were sexually abused, including cases of rape, between 2004 and 2016. Their alleged abusers go on trial starting Monday in a case that Pope Francis, an Argentine, has not commented on publicly despite its closeness to his papacy.
Mexican singer says he was trafficked and abused as a teenager
Luis Armando Campos says singing is his life. At 23, he's already had a very impressive singing career that started when he was just a child in his native Tampico, a port city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.
"I was about 11, almost 12, when I first appeared on a local TV show in Tampico," Campos said.
In 2014, he was a semi-finalist in "The Voice Mexico." The international reality singing competition franchise took his career to new levels. Even though he didn't win, Campos has since toured Mexico with his music. But what his increasing number of fans didn't know, Campos says, is that while his career was taking off, he was forced to live a double life -- as a sex slave.

The Latest: Family of ex-cop convicted of rape "devastated"
The family of a former Oklahoma City police officer convicted of rape says it's devastated that a court has rejected his appeal.
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals on Thursday upheld the convictions of 32-year-old Daniel Holtzclaw.
A statement from Holtzclaw's sister, Jenny Holtzclaw, said Holtzclaw is also devastated, but strong, and that the family will "pursue every available avenue" to prove his innocence and win his freedom.
Prosecutors accused Holtzclaw of targeting black women and girls while on duty. He was convicted in 2015 on 18 charges involving seven women and a teenage girl. He was sentenced to 263 years in prison.

Bishop says if a pregnant woman enjoys anal sex, the baby will be gay
A bishop has claimed if a pregnant woman enjoys anal sex, this will transfer to the baby and it will be gay.
The shocking revelation came from The Most Reverend Metropolitan Neophytos (Masouras) of Morfou of the Church of Cyprus on Tuesday (23 July).
In a short video posted to YouTube, he said the lack of spirituality and knowledge of Christ and the Orthodox religion creates homosexuals.
And the ‘fault’ lies with the parents, who ‘pass on’ the ‘sickness’ of homosexuality, the bishop claimed.
Basically, when a woman enjoys anal sex or any ‘abnormal sexual contact’, ‘a desire is created, which is then transmitted to the unborn child’.

“A LOT OF POWERFUL PEOPLE...COULD GO DOWN”: THE JOURNALIST WHO PUBLISHED JEFFREY EPSTEIN’S BLACK BOOK AND JET PASSENGER LOGS COMES IN FROM THE FRINGE
With Jeffrey Epstein denied bail and prosecutors building their case in his sex trafficking indictment, one of the next shoes to drop—possibly many shoes—will invariably be: Who within Epstein’s social orbit might be implicated in the scandal one way or another? As someone involved in litigation against Epstein told my colleague Gabriel Sherman earlier this week, “It’s going to be staggering, the amount of names. It’s going to be contagion numbers.”
Ever since Epstein’s arrest on July 6, there’s been growing scrutiny of his vast network of rich and/or famous and/or powerful friends and acquaintances—or former friends and acquaintances, as it were. There’s a road map to that network in Epstein’s now-infamous black book, filled with many bold-faced names, phone numbers, and addresses, from Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and Ehud Barak to Alec Baldwin, Ralph Fiennes, Mick Jagger, and even Courtney Love. “It is a mosaic of Epstein’s social contacts,” the investigative journalist Nick Bryant told me.
Bryant first got his hands on a copy of the black book in 2012, after the feds caught Epstein’s former house manager trying to peddle it for $50,000. At the time, Bryant was shopping a feature on Epstein, without success. “My Epstein article would focus on the government malfeasance that enabled Epstein to skate on scores of child abuse charges,” Bryant wrote in a pitch he submitted to various editors, “and I would also look into covert ties that the government may have had with Epstein. Moreover, the little black book opens up multiple vistas of investigation, and I would attempt to amass sufficient corroboration on some of the power broker perps who molested these girls.”
Monster who left baby girl needing surgery after ‘severe’ sex attack jailed
A monster who left a 1-year-old girl needing surgery after a “severe” sex attack, and then tried to blame her mom, has been jailed.
Alan Kusz, 43, commit the vile offense at the 14-month-old infant’s family home in Ayrshire, Scotland, in April 2018, the High Court in Glasgow heard.
The court also heard how Kusz then tried to blame the infant’s mother for the injuries, which a doctor disturbingly described as the “most severe” he had ever seen.
When cops apprehended Kusz, who was often in the company of the child and her mom, he said that he had left the baby and her mother one evening to walk his dog.
He claimed he only returned when he heard the girl “screaming.”

Teen girl allegedly knocked out after turning down stranger’s advances
A British teenager claims she was punched unconscious after telling a group of creepy strangers following her in the street, “I’m sorry, I’m not interested.”
Gabrielle Walsh, 18, said she was with a male friend in the early hours walking home from a club in Manchester when three men approached them.
“I’d taken my shoes off and this guy came over and said, ‘I like your feet’. I just said, ‘OK,’ and we tried to walk away,” she told the Manchester Evening News, showing off her horribly swollen left eye from this weekend’s alleged attack.
“They kept walking behind trying to talk to me. Eventually, I turned around and said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m not interested,’ ” she claimed.

Bill to make priests report abuse put on hold in California
A bill that would require California religious leaders to report their co-workers' confessions of child abuse or neglect has been put on hold amid opposition from the Catholic church.
California law already requires clergy to report knowledge of child abuse and neglect. But they can keep it a secret if they learned about it during a confession.
State Sen. Jerry Hill, a Democrat from San Mateo, wrote a bill this year to change that, but only if the confession was from another religious leader or someone who works at the church. It passed the Senate by a vote of 30-4 in May.
On Tuesday, Hill announced he was putting the bill on hold because it did not have enough support to pass the state Assembly. But Hill said the issue remains important to him, and he vowed to continue his efforts to pass it.
