Teen girl allegedly knocked out after turning down stranger’s advances
A British teenager claims she was punched unconscious after telling a group of creepy strangers following her in the street, “I’m sorry, I’m not interested.”
Gabrielle Walsh, 18, said she was with a male friend in the early hours walking home from a club in Manchester when three men approached them.
“I’d taken my shoes off and this guy came over and said, ‘I like your feet’. I just said, ‘OK,’ and we tried to walk away,” she told the Manchester Evening News, showing off her horribly swollen left eye from this weekend’s alleged attack.
“They kept walking behind trying to talk to me. Eventually, I turned around and said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m not interested,’ ” she claimed.

Bill to make priests report abuse put on hold in California
A bill that would require California religious leaders to report their co-workers' confessions of child abuse or neglect has been put on hold amid opposition from the Catholic church.
California law already requires clergy to report knowledge of child abuse and neglect. But they can keep it a secret if they learned about it during a confession.
State Sen. Jerry Hill, a Democrat from San Mateo, wrote a bill this year to change that, but only if the confession was from another religious leader or someone who works at the church. It passed the Senate by a vote of 30-4 in May.
On Tuesday, Hill announced he was putting the bill on hold because it did not have enough support to pass the state Assembly. But Hill said the issue remains important to him, and he vowed to continue his efforts to pass it.

It means the man, who denies the claims, cannot be named and his identity was concealed in court papers.
The Times said it had been fighting for a year to be allowed to name the multi-millionaire businessman, who is described by the paper as having extensive connections in British politics and society.

Catholic priest blasted for asking 'ladies' to dress modestly to 'protect the purity of the men at holy Mass'
A Catholic priest was blasted on Twitter for asking "ladies" to dress modestly to "protect the purity of men at holy Mass." And while Father Kevin M. Cusick later tweeted that he isn't backing down from his request, it appears his Twitter account has since been deleted.
Cusick — who's from the Washington, D.C., area — on Monday posted the following tweet: "Ladies, a priest I know was forced on Sunday to ask a woman at Mass to cover her shoulders. Please help the priest to protect the purity of the men at holy Mass by choosing to dress modestly. The alternative is awkward for all involved. Thank you."

On June 1, the first day of Pride Month celebrating the LGBTQ community, Rhode Island bishop Thomas Tobin sent out a tweet urging his Catholic followers not to participate in any Pride related activities.
“A reminder that Catholics should not support or attend LGBTQ ‘Pride Month’ events held in June. They promote a culture and encourage activities that are contrary to Catholic faith and morals. They are especially harmful for children,” Tobin wrote on Twitter.

Majority of LGBTQ people report being sexually harassed in the workplace
A report published yesterday (May 17) on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia revealed that the majority of LGBTQ people in the workplace have been sexually harassed.
The report surveyed 1,000 LGBTQ respondents and 68% said they had faced one type of sexual harassment at work. A lot of these were inappropriate jokes and probing questions about their sex lives.
35% of LGBTQ women reported having experienced unwanted touching, and a further 21% reported some form of sexual assault. A further 12% said they had been either seriously sexually assaulted or raped at work. When compared to men, only 7% reported having been seriously sexually assaulted or raped.
These figures increased significantly when it came to black or minority ethnic women. Out of these, 54% experienced unwanted touching, 45% reported having been sexually assaulted, and a further 27% reported either serious sexual assault or rape.

A Look At The Staggering Sexual Harassment Numbers In The Legal Profession
A new international survey reveals that sexual harassment in the legal profession is truly at epidemic proportions. The survey, with almost 7,000 respondents, was conducted by the International Bar Association and market research company Acritas and asked both lawyers and nonlawyers in the legal profession from 135 countries questions about sexual harassment and bullying within the industry. The results are disheartening, to say the least.
Over a third of women — 36.6 percent of women and 7.4 percent of men — say they’ve been victims of sexual harassment. When in comes to bullying nearly 1 in 2 women say they’ve been a target, compared with 1 in 3 men who say the same.

VIDEO: WHITE MARYLAND POLICE OFFICER USES N-WORD WHILE TRYING TO DISPERSE GATHERING OUTSIDE MCDONALD'S
Maryland police are investigating a video that was posted to social media this week showing a white officer using a racial slur while addressing a group of black men.
The incident took place yesterday outside a McDonald’s on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring shortly after 10:30 a.m. One of the men who recorded footage, Barry Tucker, told WRC-TV they had been waiting to be picked up for work when they were accused of trespassing.
Tucker told Fox 5 he was waiting with two of his brothers and a co-worker when officers from the Montgomery County Police Department approached them for questioning.
As the interaction continued, one white female officer was heard using the n-word at the men. As shown in bodycam footage, she said: “Hey, you want to get out of here fast, right? So if we have more people, y'all n****** been trying to something.” The officer then claimed she had been mimicking the men’s language, saying: “What I am doing is repeating your words.”

U.S. Military Sees Dramatic Rise in Sexual Assaults
There were 20,500 reported sexual assaults in the military in 2018, according to a new Pentagon report, a 38% increase in the number of assaults since 2016. The results, as ABC News reports, represent “a setback for the U.S. military’s efforts to reduce sexual assault in the military.”
These numbers come from an anonymous survey the Pentagon conducts every two years. Respondents include Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine personnel. The survey defines assault as “rape, sexual assault, forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual contact, abusive sexual contact and attempts to commit those offenses,” according to ABC News.
Over 85% of the victims reported knowing the perpetrators.

School Bus Driver Receives No Jail Time After Raping 14-Year-Old Student
There was no doubt after his guilty plea that the former school bus driver had raped a 14-year-old girl.
But because there was only one victim, and the accused had no prior arrests, the judge in the case said the man didn’t deserve to be sent to prison. Instead, Jefferson County, New York, Judge James P. McClusky sentenced the man, Shane M. Piche, to 10 years’ probation, according to the Watertown Daily Times.
The punishment did not sit well with the victim’s mother.
