Jonathan Schmitz Killed A Man For Revealing A Crush On Him On TV — Where Is He Now?
Michigan man Jonathan Schmitz, then 24, was invited onto “The Jenny Jones Show” in 1995. "The Jenny Jones Show" began in 1991 as a traditional talk show where serious topics were discussed, but by 1993 it transformed into something more like "Maury" and "The Jerry Springer Show." The show's segments began ranging from paternity tests to out-of-control teens to secret crush reveals.
During the taping of this particular episode, which was entitled “Same Sex Secret Crushes,” Schmitz's acquaintance Scott Amedure, 32, revealed his crush on him while also describing details of his sexual fantasies about him. While Schmitz appeared to be a good sport about it ?— he was mostly smiling and laughing ?— he was deeply humiliated. At points, he covered his face with his hands; he also turned to Amedure and the female friend who brought him on the show and said, “You lied to me.” His father had made multiple homophobic statements in the past and Schmitz seemingly feared being perceived as gay, as the docuseries points out.

Man accused of hiding in girl’s bedroom, sexually abusing her for a month
A Washington state man sexually abused a 12-year-old while hiding out in her bedroom over the course of a month, federal prosecutors said.
Zacharias Adrian Cavasos, 21, initially contacted the girl on social media in December before traveling from Washington to Oregon to meet the child at the Wildhorse Resort and Casino in Pendleton in February, according to court records cited by The Oregonian.
Cavasos then secretly moved into the girl’s room on Feb. 10, hiding from her grandfather by staying in a cavity beneath the girl’s bed after removing slats that held her mattress, Assistant US Attorney Jennifer Martin said.

Aunty Kiki took them to a compound where she handed them over to an elderly woman she called "Mma" and told the girls to do whatever the woman asked of them.
"The compound had two flats of three bedrooms each, filled with young girls, some of them pregnant," says Miriam. "Aunty Kiki said it was where we'd be working."
At first, the girls thought their jobs were to clean the compound and do household chores as Aunty Kiki had led them to believe. Their new employers, however, had other ideas.
"Mma asked that we stay alone in separate rooms for that first night," Miriam explains. "We were surprised because the other girls in the compound were sharing rooms, some of which had four people in them."
Late that night, according to Miriam, a man walked into her room, ordered her to take off her clothes, held her hands tightly, and raped her.
The same thing happened to Roda, but her rapist was much more brutal.
Inside the twisted world of ‘rapist’ designer Peter Nygard: book
Peter Nygard, the flamboyant Canadian fashion mogul, built a nearly billion-dollar fortune hawking slacks and blouses at Sears, Walmart and his own store in Times Square. Known as a hard-partying Peter Pan, the man Forbes dubbed “The Polyester Phenom” was often surrounded by young women and threw legendary parties at his homes in the Bahamas and Los Angeles.
But it all came to a halt in February when the FBI raided Nygard’s Manhattan office. The bust came just a week after 10 unidentified women filed a federal lawsuit accusing the 78-year-old of a “decades-long sex-trafficking scheme” in which he “recruited, lured, and enticed young, impressionable and often impoverished children and women, with cash payments and false promises of lucrative modeling opportunities” — only to, allegedly, sexually assault and rape them. On April 22, 36 more women joined a class-action complaint against Nygard.
Home Secretary Priti Patel admits 7% increase in knife crime is 'appalling' and says London Mayor Sadiq Khan 'should be doing more'
Priti Patel yesterday conceded the latest rise in knife crime was 'appalling' - as she vowed a tough new approach.
In a frank admission, the Home Secretary said that an overall fall in recorded crime could not mask the misery caused by a sharp rise in knife offences, which are at a record high.
Official figures released last month showed that knife crimes in England and Wales rose by 7 per cent last year to 45,627.
The figure represents a 49 per cent rise on 2011, when comparable records began.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Miss Patel said the figures were 'terrible' but vowed a tough new approach which would mean thugs caught with a knife 'going down'.

Seven high-risk sex offenders — 'the most dangerous kind of criminal' — released early in California over coronavirus
The Orange County District Attorney's Office warned residents that seven high-risk sex offenders have been released months early as part of the efforts in California to slow the spread of the coronavirus in jails, KCBS-TV reported.
"These kinds of high-risk sex offenders are the most dangerous kind of criminal and the most likely to re-offend," Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said in a news release. "They are doing everything they can to avoid detection by the parole officers assigned to monitor them so they can potentially commit additional sex offenses. These are not the kind of people who should be getting a break."
The sex offenders — convicted of crimes ranging from indecent exposure and sexual battery to child molestation — were released beginning April 7, many of them spending just days behind bars instead of the six months required by law for registered sex offenders who violate parole by removing or disabling GPS monitors.
"It is not the Court's responsibility to control the jail population by releasing these dangerous criminals back into our communities," Spitzer said. "The residents of Orange County deserve to have the peace of mind that registered sex offenders are being held accountable and not just let out the front door of a jail by a court commissioner who refuses to follow the law."

Women who dare dissent targeted for abuse by Yemen's rebels
Samera al-Huri’s fellow activists were disappearing, one by one. When she asked their families, each gave the same cryptic reply: “She’s traveling.” A few of the women re-emerged. But they seemed broken and refused to say where they had been for months.
Al-Huri soon found out.
A dozen officers from the Houthi rebels who control northern Yemen snatched her from her home in the capital, Sanaa, at dawn.
They took her to the basement of a converted school, its filthy cells filled with female detainees. Interrogators beat her bloody, gave her electrical shocks and, as psychological torture, scheduled her execution only to call it off last-minute.
Women who dare dissent, or even enter the public sphere, have become targets in an escalating crackdown by the Houthis.
Activists and former detainees described to The Associated Press a network of secret detention facilities where they are tortured and sometimes raped. Taiz Street, a main avenue in Sanaa, is dotted with several of them, hidden inside private villas and the school where al-Huri was held.
A Police Officer Hit A 14-Year-Old And Pinned His Head To The Ground While Detaining Him Over A Cigar
A California police officer punched a 14-year-old black boy in the chest and pinned his head to the ground while detaining him for possessing a cigar in an incident that was captured on video.
The video, which was posted to Twitter by the boy's family and their friends, shows a Rancho Cordova police officer beating the teen as he struggles on the ground. After it was shared tens of thousands of times, authorities said the incident was under review — but also that the boy resisted detention as the officer attempted to investigate a potential crime.
"It’s important to put video footage into context, especially in relation to a use of force incident," Sacramento County Sheriff's Sgt. Tess Deterding said in a statement.

Indian woman gang raped after quarantined alone in school: police
An Indian woman was allegedly gang raped in a school in the desert state of Rajasthan where she had been quarantined for a night by the police amid the nationwide coronavirus lockdown, a police official said on Sunday.
The incident occurred last week when the victim, a daily wage earner, sought shelter at a police station after walking alone for miles and losing the way to her native village.
In the absence of a quarantine centre, local police housed her for the night in a school building, where she was allegedly raped by three men.
