Boris Johnson confirms indoor sex is banned – again – in certain lockdown tiers

Downing Street representatives told a briefing of Westminster journalists that partners are free to meet outdoors, but must still adhere to social distancing guidelines, the Evening Standard newspaper reported.

While singles have suffered months of loneliness and asking themselves, “Do I really need this boyfriend pillow?” under the so-called “casual sex ban”, some couples may be barred from seeing one another under certain tiers.

In the raft of new pandemic policies, the first tier duplicates the country’s most recent restrictions. The second tier bars people from different households from socialising together indoors.

Gay People Do Not Have License to Weaponize Homophobic Slurs

San Francisco, it turns out, is not all flowers and gentle people. Livable California, the statewide anti-density organization with headquarters in the city, recently used a homophobic slur about my coworker and me. In a July 9 response to someone else’s tweet on the topic of housing, Isaiah Madison, a member of the board of directors of Livable California, wrote:

"I don’t get paid by Livable California Mr. Anonymous. I fucking wish I did though lol. Maybe Abundant Housing can hire me like they did the other brown &black faggots to push for new housing on vacant parcels of land/strip malls once y’all get the fuck off of my community’s homes[.]"

We’re Witnessing the Total Breakdown of Discourse

June’s wave of protest songs and statements of solidarity with Black Lives Matter among artists, activists, journalists, celebrities, and brands in and around hip-hop and beyond spoke to the ability of the community at large to mobilize around important issues. We’ve seen leaders called to the floor for their records on policing, organizations like the “Washington Football Team” reckoning belatedly with historical insensitivity, and renewed calls for representation in film, publishing, and journalism. Overdue milestones are being met.

But the summer has been marred by avoidable squabbles in the hip-hop community. J. Cole got into it in June with Chicago rapper and activist Noname, after he released “Snow on tha Bluff,” in which he criticizes an intelligent woman he believes to be lording knowledge over men who desperately need it.

When news broke that Megan Thee Stallion had been shot during a night out with Kylie Jenner and Tory Lanez, the internet exploded with jokes, reinforcing Noname’s frustrations just a few weeks prior. Model, author, and actress Chrissy Teigen landed in hot water by cracking wise about Meg twerking on Twitter.

Cam’ron weighed in on Instagram, saying “Tory saw that dick and started shootn,” parroting vile rhetoric that portrays trans women as deceitful figures who prey on unsuspecting cis straight men.

Conservatives are flocking to a new 'free speech' social media app that has started banning liberal users

Last week, Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Ted Cruz, R-Texas, both announced on Twitter that they were moving to a new social media platform.

"I'm proud to join @parler_app -- a platform gets what free speech is all about -- and I'm excited to be a part of it," Cruz tweeted.

Many others followed suit. Parler, founded in August 2018, touts itself as an "unbiased" social media platform focused on "real user experiences and engagement." In recent weeks, it has become a destination for conservatives who have voiced their disapproval of how mainstream platforms such as Facebook and Twitter moderate content.

But as with every other platform on the internet, Parler's free speech stance goes only so far. The platform has been banning many people who joined and trolled conservatives.

I asked 25 ‘Hot Guy’ Instagram pages why there were no men of colour. Here’s what happened…

Why are so many of these ‘Hot Guy’ Instagram feeds that are not only all white but all cisgender and all buff? What does it say about standards of beauty in the gay community?

As so often happens, a friend forwarded me a picture of your typical hot, white, cisgender, muscled, light-eyed Instagram hunk featured on a ‘Hot Guys’ page. As I scrolled down, I was reminded of #HoscosGate: a sea of beautiful, stunning white men, clearly targeted towards gay men. There were no BAME men that I could see, and I scrolled as far back as 2017. I reached out to the page, with a polite, “Hi There [name of page] great page, I have a question, I hope you don’t mind. Why do you not post pictures featuring men of colour?” I was blocked. I sent variations of that message to 25 Instagram pages, and all either replied or blocked me. There were two consistent replies: the first being that guys pay to be featured; the second that men of colour ‘do not like to be featured’. When pressed on that I was told that ‘they don’t want to be on gay pages’.

The Coronavirus Pandemic Is a Reminder the Rich and Powerful Won't Save Us

The coronavirus pandemic has been a shock to our systems — political, social, and economic. As governments scramble to adequately respond to outbreaks of COVID-19, mandates to physically isolate ourselves from each other are impacting workers in vulnerable positions. Meanwhile, celebrities are hosting online sing-alongs, some politically powerful people have allegedly exploited the moment for financial gain, and the rich continue to deliver mind-blowing indications that their concern in a global crisis is first and foremost only for themselves.

It’s all an important reminder of something many of us felt even before this moment: The rich and powerful will not save us.

President Donald Trump, of all people, exhibited a rare display of class analysis when asked about the elite getting to the front of the line for tests, saying at a White House press conference Wednesday, “That’s the story of life.”

Trump, a poignant embodiment of the out-of-touch elite, is in this case absolutely correct. Disparities and inequities are nothing new. In this moment of crisis, we will have the chance to bear witness to how the fundamental imbalances of our world protect some and victimize others.

School Vouchers Are Just Code for ‘Segregation Forever’

Today advocates of “school choice” routinely use the language of civil rights to argue that federal and state governments should finance largely unregulated private schools through the use of vouchers. These are the same type of vouchers that were the essential tools of Southern segregationists who fought and obstructed public school desegregation after the U. S. Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. How has the nation arrived at this point?

As I point out in Overturning Brown: The Segregationist Legacy of the Modern School Choice Movement, the United States has never been closer (including the years after 1954) to adopting a nationwide program in which federal and state governments spend billions of tax dollars to finance largely unaccountable private schools to educate only the children they choose to admit.

Today 26 of the 50 states have yielded to school choice advocates by enacting a variety of voucher programs diverting public funds to private schools and in some states home-schooling. These programs are financed by state appropriations and state tax credits. They have spread across the American continent, but 10 are in the South, more than in any other region. These programs together are sending more than $2.1 billion annually in state funds to private schools. That is a sum larger than the annual state funding of public schools in any of 13 states across the nation.

Investigating the insidious rise of the gay incel

Much has been written about incels, mainly in the context of toxic masculinity, far-right radicalisation, and mental health. But very little has been written about the tiny proportion of gay men among them, and it’s worth asking: who are they?

This pattern was identified by Reddit user zanmato1109, who also happens to be a PhD candidate, and summarised in a mini-essay: The New Internalised Homophobia, or, Revenge of the Gay Incels.

“Repeated rejection leads some young men to concoct an unflattering, two-dimensional caricature of the group that spurned them, whether it’s women or gays” – @zanmato1109

Although he says he wouldn’t use the term ‘incel’ had he written it again today, the insightful post drew key parallels between the gay and straight men reframing their personal issues through the lens of a broader worldview. He tells me he noticed this happened often in the ‘gaybros’ community, which “started off with an internalised homophobia vibe” – “these posts complaining about the state of the gay community were written by guys who didn’t do well in the bar scene, and whose dates never turned into anything”. He found that their anger turned into a “moralising stance,” which frustrated him. “It was disheartening to read what were essentially homophobic, right-wing talking points repurposed as handful of disaffected gays’ wrongheaded coping mechanisms.”

In the same way that incel forums have become hotbeds of far-right ideology and misogyny, these gay incels often share similarly right-wing views and a hatred towards the potential partners rejecting them. “I don’t think we’re wrong to see some kind of parallel,” he continues. “In both cases, repeated rejection leads some young men to concoct an unflattering, two-dimensional caricature of the group that spurned them, whether it’s women or gays. In both cases, part of their attack is some kind of moralising about sexual promiscuity – particularly in online spaces.”

'There are too many white people in here': Black woman shouts 'this is a space for people of color' at students in multicultural center - before University of Virginia says the facility is open to everyone

In the footage, the woman grabs everyone's attention and then states: 'If you all didn't know, this is an MSC (multicultural student center) and frankly there are just too many white people in here.

'This is a space for people of color, so just be really cognizant of the space you're taking up because it does make some of us POCs feel uncomfortable when we see too many white people in here.'

Chaos at Virginia Legislature After Pastor Recites Antigay Prayer

A minister’s prayer condemning same-sex marriage and abortion caused some members of the Virginia House of Delegates to walk out Tuesday and the speaker of the House to slam her gavel and cut him off.

He told House members that they risked God’s wrath for not following the Bible. He denounced abortion, saying, “All life is precious and worthy of a chance to be born.”

“And why are there so many abortion clinics near African-American communities?” he added. “This is planned urban genocide, and you can change this.”

“Marriage is to join a biological male and a biological female in holy matrimony, not to provoke the Almighty God,” he said. “Without laws to protect traditional marriage, Virginia will be reduced to increased fatherless children and welfare victims and homelessness, a tax burden to us all.”

Uber driver tells gay men to stop kissing: “I’m a Christian!”

An Uber driver asked two men to stop kissing in the back of her car because of her Christian faith.

One of the passengers, Finn Davies, had attended a birthday party on Saturday night at his friend’s home in London, where he met and flirted with “a handsome man” who it turned out lived in the same direction as he did.

LGBTQ Methodists were stuck loving a church that didn’t love them back. Sound familiar?

LGBTQ inclusion in the policy and practices of UMC has been a long contentious and exhausting battle – both nationally and globally. The proposed schism to be voted on in May at General Conference in Minneapolis will divide the nation’s third-largest denomination worldwide.

While the current UMC will allow LGBTQ marriages and clergy, the impending split will create a new “traditionalist Methodist” denomination, allowing outright discrimination and denunciation of LGBTQ people in the name of God.

The Supreme Court will hear 2 major cases about when religious schools can ignore civil rights laws

The Supreme Court announced on Wednesday that it would hear a pair of cases concerning the “ministerial exemption” to employment discrimination laws. Broadly speaking, the “ministerial exemption” provides that religious “ministers” are not protected by civil rights laws in their workplace — so a church could, for example, fire its preacher because the preacher is black.

New Jersey mayor calls LGBTQ rights movement 'an affront to almighty God'

A New Jersey mayor called the LGBTQ rights movement "an affront to almighty God" at a town council meeting and warned that people who support "unrighteous laws" will be held accountable.

Barnegat Township Mayor Alfonso Cirulli, a former assistant principal, began Tuesday by condemning a state law that requires LGBTQ-inclusive material be taught in public school. He said the law "crossed over the line into absurdity" and politicians "have no right to promote the LGBT agenda."
