California Pedophile Sentenced To 230 Years For Raping Girl 'At Least 90 Times'

A prosecutor in California described the case of a pedophile who was just handed a 230-year sentence as “possibly the most egregious child sexual assault case" he has ever seen.

Deon Austin Welch, 30, was sentenced Friday after being convicted of 16 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child with a sentence-enhancing great bodily injury allegation. Welch had raped a girl he lived with dozens of times, leading to her getting pregnant. The case has since generated considerable criticism of Riverside County's child welfare agency, which had settled with the victim for $10 million last summer after failing to remove her from the home.

Riverside County Superior Court Judge Bernard Schwartz explained his choice of handing down the most severe possible sentence in this situation, while condemning the system which allowed the crimes to continue without intervention.

A Pregnant Woman in Alabama Was Shot in the Stomach. Police Charged Her for Her Fetus’ Death.

An Alabama woman has been arrested and charged with manslaughter over the fatal shooting of her unborn child — but she didn’t fire the gun that ended her pregnancy.

Now, reproductive health advocates worry what those charges mean for women in a state where abortion has been severely restricted and fetuses have been given legal standing.

The mother, Marshae Jones, 27, was indicted by a Jefferson County grand jury Wednesday, according to AL.com. The manslaughter charge against her stems from an altercation outside of a Dollar General in 2018, when Jones was five months pregnant. She and a 23-year-old woman allegedly fought about the unborn baby’s father. It’s unclear who started the altercation, but police ultimately blamed Jones, who was shot in the stomach.

State lawmakers voted to force ‘chemical castration’ on sex offenders. Medical experts urge caution.

A bill in Alabama awaiting the governor’s signature would require people convicted of certain sex offenses to undergo “chemical castration” as a condition of parole — a requirement meant to keep perpetrators from committing similar crimes.

The proposed law, passed by the state legislature, says a judge must order anyone convicted of a sex offense involving a child under the age of 13 to start receiving testosterone-inhibiting medication a month before their release from prison. Most offenders would have to pay for their treatment, which would be administered by the Department of Public Health, until a judge decides the medication is no longer necessary.

New York legislation inspired by sex assault survivor would combat abuse by doctors

A New York State legislator is proposing a trio of bills inspired by a woman whose story shed light on a Columbia University doctor accused of sexually assaulting dozens of pregnant women in his care.

Assembly member Aravella Simotas said that the legislation stemmed from testimony given Friday by Marissa Hoechstetter. In December, Hoechstetter spoke with CBS News about the abuse she said she endured while Dr. Robert Hadden oversaw her pregnancy with twins and postpartum care.

Hoechstetter was one of 17 women to sue Columbia University for negligence in the case, with at least five more suing separately. She is the only plaintiff to reveal her name.

Prosecutor: Altar girl in relationship with priest pregnant

Authorities are investigating whether a Roman Catholic diocese in Ohio responded appropriately last November when it learned that a priest for two of its parishes had taken a now-pregnant altar girl to a wedding reception, Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn told The Associated Press.

Blackburn's office on Tuesday charged the Rev. Henry Christopher Foxhoven with eight counts of sexual battery for his relationship with the girl, who is 17. He is being held on a $1 million bond and doesn't have an attorney.

Revelations about Foxhoven's behavior have shaken Catholics in the two small former mining towns where Foxhoven ministered, Blackburn said. The story began to unravel Oct. 26 when the 45-year-old priest and the teen told her parents she was two months pregnant. A spokesman for the Diocese of Steubenville said Foxhoven called Bishop Jeffrey Montforton the next day to tell him about the relationship.

Fugitive New Mexico priest pleads not guilty to sex abuse

A fugitive priest who fled the U.S. decades ago amid allegations of child sex abuse has been returned to New Mexico to face charges after being arrested in Morocco last year, federal officials said Friday.

Arthur J. Perrault, 80, a former Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and a former Air Force chaplain, has been charged in a federal indictment with seven counts of aggravated sexual abuse and abusive sexual contact between 1991 and 1992 at Kirtland Air Force Base and Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Woman Says Flight Crew Made 'Jokes' After a Man Masturbated Next to Her

Partway through Genevieve Pascolla's flight from London to Chicago earlier this month, she woke up from a nap to a mortifying sight. With his body covered by a blanket, the man sitting next to her appeared to be masturbating—and somehow, even after she jumped out of her seat and got away from him, things only got worse from there.
