El Salvador offers to house violent US criminals and deportees of any nationality

One of the most striking aspects of the deal is that Salvadorean law doesn’t differentiate between alleged gang members and people found guilty of a crime. Under the draconian state of emergency that has ruled the Central American country since 2022, authorities can detain anyone simply on the suspicion of being members of a gang.

Bukele has boasted a high incarceration rate as a recipe for security – El Salvador now boasts the highest such rate in the world – but human rights organizations such as Amnesty International believe many of the over 80,000 people jailed under the state of emergency are innocent.

The State Department’s travel advisory for El Salvador also warns that those imprisoned in the country face “harsh” prison conditions, without access to due process.

Prosecutor drops sex with minor charges

In a three-page Closeout Memorandum released by the Broward State Attorney’s Office, Assistant State Attorneys Neva Rainford-Smith and Damette Lennox state that prosecutors decided to drop the charges after it became clear that the then 16-year-old boy, who told authorities that his sexual encounter with Parson was consensual, did not want to participate in the prosecution against Parson.

A quarter of youngsters being treated at transgender clinics may just be autistic

Up to a quarter of youngsters treated in transgender clinics may simply be autistic, according to new research.

Those attending gender identity clinics are many times more likely to show signs of autism than the population at large, doctors found.

Last night, critics said the figures called into serious question the practice of 'affirming' a young person's chosen gender and putting them forward for potentially irreversible medical treatment without a thorough examination of their psychiatric condition.

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are more likely than others to become fixated on an idea – be it true or false – which they can then find almost impossible to drop, warned Stephanie Arie-Davies, founder of the campaign group Transgender Trends.

Women who let boyfriends abuse their kids must pay the price

A recent story in Mother Jones, for instance, decries the laws that incarcerate women for their “failure to protect” children. The author profiles a woman named Kerry King, whose live-in boyfriend had been abusing her daughter for a year. She frequently left the girl alone with the man who was using heroin. She noticed bruises on the girl’s body. Her daughter told her they were from when the boyfriend was “mean.” But she claims she never thought the girl was in danger until one day when he had his “fingers around her neck” and King tried to intervene. That’s when he slammed King against the wall and told her to hold the child down while he beat her with a belt. King did as she was told, “hoping that if she complied, it would be over faster.”
