GoFundMe campaign to help homeless vet was 'predicated on a lie,' prosecutor says
The "heartwarming tale" of a New Jersey couple helping drug-addicted homeless veteran Johnny Bobbitt took a stone-cold twist Thursday when a prosecutor said it was "predicated on a lie" designed to dupe thousands of people into contributing to a GoFundMe campaign.
Bobbitt, and the couple, Kate McClure and Mark D'Amico, allegedly conspired to concoct a story to tug at the hearts and wallets of kind-hearted individuals, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said at a news conference Thursday. They initially sought to raise $10,000, but the wildly successful GoFundMe campaign brought in over $400,000 and triggered an "international media blitz" that furthered the fraudulent campaign, Coffina said.
Every shred of the trio's story, including the part that Bobbitt used his last $20 to help McClure out of a roadside jam when she ran out of gas, was all bogus, Coffina said.

Racist White Woman Verbally Attacks Family for Speaking Spanish in Virginia Restaurant
In yet another example of a racist white American feeling threatened by something they don’t understand, a woman in Lovettsville, VA, verbally harassed a family at a local restaurant because they were speaking Spanish in public.
NBC Washington broadcast a partial video of the profanity-laced tirade directed at a local resident whose relatives were visiting from Guatemala. While the victim, who asked that her name not be published, said she was justifiably upset, she was even angrier that the incident occurred in front of her 7-year-old daughter.
Among those throwing shade on West’s comments was Bakari Sellers, an African-American lawyer and politician from South Carolina.
“Idiocy is the willingness to sell out your culture for trinkets,” Sellers wrote. “@kanyewest doesn’t understand reality. The same hat he is wearing is responsible for Jeff Sessions and taking us back a decade in Criminal Justice reform. @kanyewest is a clown who wants to sell albums. I’m good.” 30-Sep-2018

Anti-LGBTQ Groups Sue Louisiana Governor to Stop Drag Queen Story Hour
In an attempt to stop a drag queen story hour event at Lafayette Public Library in Louisiana, two antigay Christian groups have filed suit against the town of Lafayette, the governor of Louisiana, and the library.
Chris Sevier, who with others filed suit on behalf of Warriors for Christ and Special Forces of Liberty, had previously sued five states claiming he had married his computer in New Mexico and they should recognize the union, reports local TV station KATC. Those suits were a stunt to challenge marriage equality. He has filed several other bizarre, unsuccessful suits -- against Apple, claiming that an erroneous URL caused him to develop a pornography addiction, and against members of Congress who displayed Pride flags.

Trump’s God-Talk Is Turning America Off Religion
Perhaps the only subject Donald Trump likes to talk about as much as the almighty self is, well, Almighty God.
Need proof? At a White House “state-like dinner” for evangelical leaders in late August, President Trump spoke about “the glory of God” and the “power of prayer,” while promising that he would ensure America would “forever proudly remain one nation under God.”
Considering these anecdotes, one might assume that Trump using the presidential mega-microphone to speak about faith might help revive God-talk among the masses. But according to a new poll I commissioned with Barna Group, a prominent social research firm focused on religion and public life, it may be hurting the Christian cause rather than helping.

Fox News is getting dragged hard for trying to shame a 'Cosby Show' star
Fox News's Twitter account is being rightfully dragged on Twitter for publishing and tweeting a "news" story about Cosby Show actor Geoffrey Owens having a job at a Trader Joe's in New Jersey.
Twitter people pointed out that the story, which was aggregated from the Daily Mail and refers to Owens as having been "spotted" working at Trader Joe's like some kind of rare Pokémon, reads like a mean-spirited attempt to shame him for working outside of the entertainment industry — as if anything an actor does after being on TV is a fall from grace. Many people stepped to Owens' defense.

PORN STARS, PLAYMATES, AND PRAYER CIRCLES: HOW THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT TRADED FAMILY VALUES FOR THE CULT OF TRUMP
Before Donald Trump walked into his life, Sean Spicer was known primarily as a professional, a family man, and—most important—a devout Catholic, who hoped a White House job might help him meet the Pope. Trump, of course, ultimately left Spicer off the guest list when he went to the Vatican, leaving Spicer to fume to colleagues over the slight. Despite all he endured while working for the president, however, Spicer has remained loyal in exile, carefully balancing his attempts at reconciliation with the Washington establishment with effusive praise for a man who routinely mocked him.
The tensions inherent in this project would test the faith of a lesser man. Spicer, in such cases, turns to religion. When asked on NBC whether the American people deserve to know about Trump’s affairs, Spicer replied that they did not, because “that’s between him, his wife, and his God.” Spicer, in the hot seat, quickly returned to the unconvincing rhetorical style that ultimately cost him his job. “We are rushing too quick to judge people in society,” he added, repeating iterations of the same phrase as Natalie Morales pressed him on whether Trump’s philandering had damaged the Republican Party’s designation as the party of family values, but seemed to lose the argument under pressure. When asked whether Trump had given up the right to privacy when he was elected, Spicer shot back, “Not if it didn’t happen while he was in office.”
