Asian American eligible voter population has ballooned 139 percent in 20 years: report

As the U.S. moves closer to the November election, the number of Asian American eligible voters will hit a record high, a new report from the Pew Research Center revealed Thursday.

The report examines the Asian American electorate, which is made up of more than 11 million eligible voters. Among the significant findings, the research noted that the number of those voters ballooned by 139 percent in the past 20 years, making Asian Americans the fastest-growing demographic of eligible voters compared to all other major races and ethnicities. In contrast, the white electorate grew by 7 percent in the same period.

Christine Chen, executive director of the civic engagement nonprofit APIAVote, said the group has amassed enough influence to have a profound impact in some races and, in some cases, swing districts.

Teen rips 'lazy mother' for wanting another child: 'She should give up her dream'

A 16-year-old girl sparked debate on Reddit after seeking advice about her parents, who have 12 children already and want three more.

The teenager, who wrote under the username doodlydoot, shared her story on the subreddit AmITheAsshole, where her post has since received more than 25,000 upvotes and nearly 2,000 comments.

One night, the teen said her mom asked her to put her twin 3-year-old siblings to bed while she was busy studying for a test and was met with backlash when she refused to do it.

“She said that it is my responsibility as an older child,” the 16-year-old wrote. “I lost my temper and told her that she can’t take care of her 12 kids as it is, and that she should give up her dream of 15 children because she’s depriving the younger ones of a better life.”

Redditors rushed to the girl’s defense, with a majority agreeing that her siblings were the responsibility of her parents and not her. Reactions ranged from urging her to call Child Protective Services to suggesting she move out.

Dr. Oz Under Fire After Saying Risk Of Reopening Schools Would Be A "Tradeoff"

In an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity on Wednesday, Dr. Mehmet Oz discussed reopening schools amid the coronavirus pandemic and said that doing so "may only cost us 2 to 3% in terms of total mortality." The television personality suggested that the potential deaths "might be a tradeoff some folks would consider" and has since come under fire for his comments, with some on social media calling him "heartless."

"We need our mojo back," Oz said in reference to the American economy. "Let's start with things that are really critical to the nation, where we think we might be able to open without getting into a lot of trouble. I tell ya, schools are a very appetizing opportunity."

This 7-year-old is making and delivering care packages to the elderly shut in by the coronavirus

Cavanaugh Bell is a 7-year-old on a mission: "To help other people and let them know that I got their back," he told CNN.

At a time when senior citizens must stay in to avoid the coronavirus, the spirited boy in Gaithersburg, Maryland, decided to make them care packages.

"The packages include toilet paper, some flushable wipes, hygiene products and a bunch of food," he said.

'She's my best friend'

The idea came when Bell realized his 74-year-old grandmother is in a high-risk age group for coronavirus.

‘Shoot them dead,’ Philippine’s Duterte warns coronavirus lockdown violators

In a televised address, Duterte said it was vital everyone cooperates and follows home quarantine measures, as authorities try to slow the coronavirus contagion and spare the country's fragile health system from being overwhelmed.

The Philippines has recorded 96 coronavirus deaths and 2,311 confirmed cases, all but three in the past three weeks, with infections now being reported in the hundreds every day.

"It is getting worse. So once again I'm telling you the seriousness of the problem and that you must listen," Duterte said late on Wednesday.

"My orders to the police and military ... if there is trouble and there's an occasion that they fight back and your lives are in danger, shoot them dead."

"Is that understood? Dead. Instead of causing trouble, I will bury you."

Tone-deaf NYU dean sends video of herself dancing to students seeking tuition refunds

Hundreds of students at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts demanded a partial tuition refund since spring classes were moved online amid the coronavirus pandemic –and their dean responded with a bizarre video of herself dancing to REM’s “Losing my Religion.’’

As of Friday evening, a Change.org petition started by NYU students has garnered more than 2,600 signatures from people seeking the tuition relief.

Students say online classes and remote learning via video conferencing app’s like Zoom are not worth the school’s $58,000-a-year tuition.

The petition is pushing for the NYU Board of Trustees “to refund a portion of our Spring 2020 tuition paid for the resources, universally deemed crucial to arts education, lost in the recent switch to remote teaching.”

These Strippers Are Delivering Food To Stay Employed And Bring Joy During Coronavirus

No one has jumped on the “from necessity comes creativity” train sparked by the coronavirus outbreak in a more wonderfully weird way than Portland, Oregon, strip club owner Shon Boulden.

As government mandates have brought businesses like Boulden’s to a screeching halt, he has come up with a way to raise spirits in the community and ensure his employees maintain some income: having dancers make food deliveries from the bar’s kitchen.

And it all started as a joke one night at Lucky Devil Lounge, one of his two clubs.

“We were cracking jokes like we do every night, coming up with funny alternate Uber names,” Boulden told HuffPost on the phone Monday, referring to the popular ride-hailing service. “Things like Doober for weed delivery, Luber to deliver lube. Then I was like, ‘Boober, when a topless girl picks you up and takes you to a strip club.’”

When Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) ordered the closure of bars and restaurants save for takeout and delivery on March 16 in order to hopefully stop the spread of COVID-19 in the state, Boulden took an adapted version of that joke to Twitter.

Costco Will No Longer Let Hoarders Return Coronavirus Supplies

Last weekend, the New York Times wrote a piece about Matt and Noah Colvin, the Tennessee brothers who drove 1,300 miles across two states to buy thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and thousands of packages of antibacterial wipes so they could resell them online at unconscionably inflated price points. (Matt listed those $1 bottles of Purell on Amazon for anywhere between $8 to $70 each.)

Amazon ultimately yanked Colvin's listings, citing the company's policy against price-gouging. And on Saturday afternoon, just hours after the Times' piece went live—and subsequently, viral—the Tennessee attorney general's office sent its own investigators to Matt Colvin's house to deliver a cease-and-desist letter, reminding him of the state's own law that prevents state residents from charging "unreasonable prices for essential goods and services [...] in direct response to a disaster." Before the weekend was over, Colvin was the subject of a state investigation, he'd been permanently banned from eBay, and the storage company where he kept his ultra-selfish hoard told him that he couldn't rent from them anymore. He was also essentially forced to donate all of the hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes that he'd bought, with a local church collecting the bulk of it, and the state attorney general's office taking the rest of it. All of the products will be redistributed to people who will actually use them, not profit from them.

'Our 13-year-old was brainwashed into thinking she’s transgender': Parents accuse school of secretly allowing girl to attend ‘radicalising’ mentoring sessions that convinced her that she was really a boy

A school has been accused of secretly allowing a 13-year-old girl to attend ‘radicalising’ mentoring sessions that convinced her that she was transgender.

Ashleigh and Ged Barnett allege that until the one-to-one sessions began last September, their daughter appeared comfortable in her body and showed little interest in transgender issues.

But they say she had changed completely by November, sporting a short haircut and talking about feeling that she was really a boy.

They were confused by the transformation until they met her headteacher to discuss another matter and learned that their daughter had been having weekly sessions with the head of the school’s LGBT group.

Mrs Barnett said: ‘The school didn’t think it was fit to tell us. We are her parents, but responsibility to care for our child has been taken away. The attitude is that it’s the child’s choice and it’s got nothing to do with us.

‘Children at 13 or 14, especially girls, are sometimes not happy in their own bodies – that’s what puberty does to you. They are very vulnerable. It only takes one person with an agenda to plant a little seed that they are “in the wrong body”.’

Using tote bags instead of plastic could help spread the coronavirus

The COVID-19 outbreak is giving new meaning to those “sustainable” shopping bags that politicians and environmentalists have been so eager to impose on the public. These reusable tote bags can sustain the COVID-19 and flu viruses — and spread the viruses throughout the store.

Researchers have been warning for years about the risks of these bags spreading deadly viral and bacterial diseases, but public officials have ignored their concerns, determined to eliminate single-use bags and other plastic products despite their obvious advantages in reducing the spread of pathogens. In New York state, a new law took effect this month banning single-use plastic bags in most retail businesses, and this week Democratic state legislators advanced a bill that would force coffee shops to accept consumers’ reusable cups — a practice that Starbucks and other chains have wisely suspended to avoid spreading the COVID-19 virus.

John Flanagan, the Republican leader of the New York state Senate, has criticized the new legislation and called for a suspension of the law banning plastic bags. “Senate Democrats’ desperate need to be green is unclean during the coronavirus outbreak,” he said Tuesday, but so far he’s been a lonely voice among public officials.

Margaret Court’s Church Reckons “The Blood Of Jesus” Will Protect Them From Coronavirus

This week in ‘Good Ideas’, sub-category ‘What Could Possibly Go Wrong?’, Margaret Court and her congregation have declared that they are safe from the coronavirus pandemic because the blood of Jesus will protect them.

The Victory Life Church released a statement to followers yesterday, saying that daily prayers and additional hand sanitiser are the only measures they’ll take to combat the rapidly-spreading disease.

Thomas Valva's Mom Says She Was 'Begging' for Help to Save Boy, 8, from Cop Dad's Abuse

For years, Justyna Zubko-Valva fought to expose the alleged physical, emotional, and mental abuse she says her sons suffered at the hands of their father and his fiancée. But the mom says her pleas for help fell on deaf ears — and the system’s failure led to the death of her 8-year-old son, Thomas.

“It’s such a tragedy that could have been prevented so many times by so many people,” Zubko-Valva tells PEOPLE.

On Jan. 17, Thomas died from severe hypothermia after allegedly being forced to spend the previous night in the frigid garage of the Center Moriches, New York, home owned by his father, New York Police Department Transit Officer Michael Valva, 40, and his fiancée, Angela Pollina, 42.

The night prior, Thomas and his older brother, Anthony, who are both on the autism spectrum, were allegedly provided no blankets or pillows, and had to sleep on the ice-cold concrete floor. The next morning, Thomas collapsed and lost consciousness.

Lawyer Accused of Sexual Harassment Blames Employee's 'Carrot Shirt'

Last week, Lisa Davidson filed a lawsuit against the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney's Office where she'd worked for 18 years, alleging that the Missouri county's former prosecutor "subjected her to continuous unwanted, unwelcome sexual comments, jokes, and advances," and then fired her after she reported his behavior to the Missouri state Commission on Human Rights.

According to the Daily Journal, when Davidson worked for Jerrod Mahurin, he allegedly did everything from ask her to show her breasts to him, suggest that she should leave her hotel room door unlocked during a work-related trip so he could access her room during the night, and forced her to endure a wide range of inappropriate remarks.

Major airline to sever ties with chocolate supplier over the owner's pro-life, Christian views

Swiss Air Lines is said to have nixed its relationship chocolate manufacturer Läderach over its owner's affiliation with pro-life, Christian causes, LifeSiteNews' Martin Bürger reported.

The airline had a business relationship with chocolatier Läderach that spanned over a decade, providing passengers with small boxes of its world-famous chocolates as a way of saying thanks for flying with the airlines.

Now, after months of protests from activists, Swiss Air has decided to sever ties with the chocolate-maker and will stop distributing its truffles and other sweets in the first half of 2020.

Why are they attacking a chocolate-maker?
