School forced to shut down after inviting lesbian politician to speak for Black History Month
Students at Immaculata Catholic School in Durham, North Carolina, won’t be attending classes today after extremist right wing groups threatened protests over the school’s planned Black History Month celebration.
The event would have focused on African-American women and one of the planned speakers was lesbian city councilor Vernetta Alston.
“As a pastor, I cannot place our Imaculata students into this contentious environment,” school administrator Christopher VanHaight wrote in a letter to parents.

Christian NCAA member Azusa Pacific bans all same-sex relationships
Azusa Pacific University, an NCAA Division II school with ties to the Christian church, has reinstated a previously suspended ban on same-sex relationships, sending LGBTQ students, student-athletes, members of the administration and advocates scrambling.
The school’s Board of Trustees late last week sent a notice returning the school’s policy to say “Students may not engage in a romanticized same-sex relationship.”
Some Christians have long held that the Bible bans sex between people of the same gender. This policy goes even further, banning all romantic same-sex relationships, even those that don’t include sex. The school’s policy already bans sex outside of wedlock, this policy simply specifically targets gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans and queer people.
God has yet to weigh in on the decision.

Anti-LGBTI Christian author claims all oral sex is 'homosexual'
A Christian author of anti-LGBTI books has claimed that oral sex is the ‘practice of homosexuals’.
Linda Harvey, writer behind books like Maybe He’s Not Gay, has launched a frankly bizarre rant against sex education.
During an article for right-wing website BarbWire denouncing teaching teenagers about ‘pleasure’ during sex ed, the writer goes into an odd tangent about oral sex.
Harvey writes: ‘And let’s not forget the deadly contribution of “LGBTQ” advocates who demand “inclusive” sex ed – ie, lessons that outline in detail how kids can engage in anal and oral sex, the sex practices of homosexuals.’
For people with opposite sex partners: no, this isn’t an excuse to skip foreplay.

Hundreds Arrested in Multiday Protests of Supreme Court Nominee
U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing in the Senate this week was frequently disrupted as protesters were removed from the hearing room by police, with more than 200 people arrested.
Protesters are removed during the fourth day of Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., September 7, 2018.
In an unusually intense episode of civil disobedience on Capitol Hill, the four-day Senate Judiciary Committee hearing was targeted for “creative resistance” by liberal activist groups, said Linda Sarsour, Women's March board member.
“This is a travesty of justice! Adjourn the hearing!” Sarsour, 38, yelled on Tuesday morning as she was the first to be taken out of the hearing room by police officers.

BEN SHAPIRO: WHY IN THE NAME OF GOD IS THE MEDIA PROTECTING POPE FRANCIS? / OPINION
In 2003, The Boston Globe won a Pulitzer Prize for its reporting on a massive sex abuse cover-up inside the Roman Catholic Church, led by the archdiocese of Boston. The Pulitzer board praised the newspaper’s “courageous, comprehensive coverage of sexual abuse by priests, an effort that pierced secrecy, stirred local, national and international reaction and produced changes in the Roman Catholic Church.” Hollywood made the Oscar-winning movie Spotlight about the effort.
In 2018, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, former Vatican ambassador to the United States, released an 11-page memo alleging that Pope Francis and other top members of the Vatican had reinstated Cardinal Theodore McCarrick to a public position despite credible allegations of sexual abuse of seminarians and minors. The memo rocked the Catholic Church; Pope Francis refused to comment; other sources came forward to back Vigano’s claims.
Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago made the near-unbelievable claim that Pope Francis shouldn’t comment, since he has “a bigger agenda. He’s got to get on with other things, of talking about the environment and protecting migrants and carrying on the work of the church. We’re not going to go down a rabbit hole on this.”
So, did the press leap to investigate Vigano’s claims? Did they demand answers from Pope Francis? Did we see the same type of courageous, comprehensive coverage of Francis’ activities that we saw from the Globe team circa 2003? Of course not.

Don Lemon says Trump told him he couldn’t be a good journalist because he’s black
Don Lemon revealed Tuesday night that President Donald Trump once inferred Lemon was racist, and unable to be an impartial journalist because he’s black.
“The last time I interviewed Donald Trump, before he ran for office, was the night that Osama Bin Laden was killed,” Lemon explained to Wolf Blitzer during CNN’s The Situation Room. “It was before he was killed and we had a row about the birther issue.”
“He vowed that he would never do an interview with me because he said I was racist, because I challenged him on an in-factual statement, a lie.”
Outrage After Same-Sex Couple Denied Marriage License in New York
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, among others, blasted the decision by a Montgomery County town clerk to reject a marriage license for a same-sex couple.
Dylan Toften (pictured, left) and his partner were recently forced to travel to a neighboring jurisdiction to get their license after Montgomery clerk Laurel "Sherrie" Ericksen refused to grant them a license — a deputy clerk in Montgomery will grant licenses to same-sex couples, but that employee was not in the office when Toften and his partner came in. Montgomery town attorney Robert Subik told the Daily Gazette that same-sex couples must make appointments because they have a clerk, Ericksen, who refuses to grant them licenses; in other words, the onus is on same-sex couples to work around the clerk's bigotry.

Actor Ving Rhames said neighbor called 911 to report him as 'a large black man' breaking in
During a radio interview promoting "Mission: Impossible Fallout," Ving Rhames said he was a target of racial profiling earlier this year after Los Angeles police came to his home and held him at gunpoint in response to a neighbor calling 911.
The 59-year-old actor recounted Friday that he was watching television in his Santa Monica home when he heard noise coming from the backyard. He said he thought it was his two English bulldogs at first — only to quickly find out it was police.
"I get up, I open the door, there's a red dot pointed at my face from a 9 millimeter," Rhames said on Sirius XM’s The Clay Cane Show on Friday. "And they say, 'Put up your hands.'”
'I Don't Have to Explain Shit to You': Restaurant Manager Fired After Ordering a Black Woman to Leave
Trump’s enduring political strength with white women, explained
White women voters disapprove of President Donald Trump’s job performance, but nonetheless view him more favorably than other voters — showing that even as a large Trump-era gender gap seems to have opened up, gender remains a less significant marker of political behavior than race and ethnicity or even age.
Tracking polling from Civiqs available online makes it easy to examine Trump’s approval rating among demographic subgroups of registered voters and illustrate the point.
Trump famously won a majority of white women’s votes in 2016, but he is currently unpopular with this group.
